In Italy, there’s a rampaging issue of underaged girls over-sexualizing themselves in hope of attracting men of age they deem worthy of their company. 14 year olds perfuming themselves in hopes of attracting a wealthy mate isn’t anything new here. Boys in schools not showering and using stuff like Sauvage Elixir and other low quality fashion fragrances is just not pleasant, especially for their teachers’ noses.

As someone who sells niche fragrances daily in a department store with the largest portfolio of niche brands, I encounter about 120 children-teens each day. It's... excruciatingly exhausting. Rarely do we get the child that is genuinely into niche fragrances and IS RESPECTFUL. Here is a typical line of phrases that I will hear every single time (and I do mean every single time) before these groups destroy the counters, leaving behind fragrance soaked caps (don't do that), oiled up counter tops, and blotter cards everywhere:
"DUDE THE FANUM COLOGNE!" (we haven't had a tester of New York Nights in over 3 months because of them) "Do you have JPG?" (never Jean Paul Gaultier because that would be too respectful) "Do you price match Jomashop or Fragrancenet?" (No we do not price match liquidators who price gouge the market with old and sometimes fake product) and then my favorite of all time (after they have spent 5 hours spraying and respraying the same 10 fragrances over again) "Dude don't buy it here, just get it on Jomashop."
All in all, we never have any issue showing fragrances to RESPECTFUL and genuinely interested children/teens. The issue is the groups of bratty d-bags that can't seem to shop for perfume with groups smaller than 10 people. I have even been told to shut up and let them spray whatever they want. These kids go behind the counters, grab whatever they want, and destroy everything. The stores are even looking to enact a policy where children need to be accompanied by an adult to prohibit this behavior.

What kids don't realize is that fragrances are mostly a personal thing and are super subjective - 99.99% of the time nobody will notice or comment or even like what fragrance you are wearing. That 100ml bottle you spent 300$ on will last you years and you'll most likely forget about it or get sick of it before finishing it. You're much better off just getting small samples and finding what you truly like rather than listening to tiktok influencers.

I thank the first salesperson I interacted with when I was unsure about what I wanted when looking for a scent. She sprayed a bit and told me to smell it. I did. Then she told me to wait a few hours. Smell it again. If I still liked the smell then consider buying it. I feel like people commit way too early to scents today. But I suppose that's the job of the glorified salespeople on social media. People need to slow down when buying anything.

The best perfumes are the ones that invoke strong happy memories imo, i've got 3/4 perfumes that just instantly reminded me of episodes or places from the childhood and those are my favs, i put them on and im immediately transported back in time, it's crazy

I got some of them as gifts and others I saved money to buy them. However Lattafa is niche because they only create fragrances even though they cost $.

This is a very well produced video! I am happy to see JQ's filmography improve over the years!
I have been getting into fragrances since last year, but I had no idea this was a trend with other young people. I started because my best friend became interested in capturing the scent of her favorite flowers and started experimenting with different store perfumes, and making them herself, of lilacs and roses and daisies. Her passion for scent influenced me. I don't like florals personally, but I started exploring a few different small business which sell oil perfumes and found that I like to capture the scent of old antique stores, a warm fire, or autumn woods, and bring it along with me :)

I think its awesome kids are finally embracing the niche world since it's such a snob world. it deserves more love as times are moving forward.

In the Middle East and especially the GCC area fragrances has always been a crucial part of the culture. Whether it is a perfume or perfume oils or incense..
it is used by everyone and smelling nice as a person or even your home with incense is everywhere. Fragrances are also sometimes a way to welcome guests and show hospitality and used in weddings and celebrations where you'll have a tray of perfumes going around to be used by guests as a welcoming gesture.
Also incense is widely used for homes or after cooking to neutralise or eliminate the cooking smell. That's why this region is a huge market for fragrance brands and people are very familiar with scent notes and usues and have deep appreciation for perfumery. Most of us will have a whole collection of perfumes on our dressing tables.

As of last year when I was 13 years old I found myself finding Fashion elitist’s Channel when He had “Martinez” on His Banner so I’ve been here for a while I guess, But. Off track. The real reason I decided to go on board with the Niche Train is because it’s something I found a genuine love for. I found something interesting about one’s self that could make one Unique.
Never try to be over unique, if it’s something that you don’t really follow. Try to be your true self and find things you fuck with truly.

Sensational video, from the production to the analysis and building the narration.
I got into the chasing for my favorite smells 2-3 years ago and spent over 2k$ to rotate endlessly like 3 bottles.
I could easily save up just by sampling them before I buy.
Of course, sometimes I got random compliments for smells that I didn't even like - that just deepened the problem of chasing different smells to get even more recognizable and be "different" than the others.
And that is the biggest problem - I wanted to be unique in the wrong way - not being true to myself, but for the sake of being different and more edgy.

I had no idea fragrances were trending with young teens but it makes sense. I was actually recently inspired to get in to perfumes by my friend, every day she had a different perfume or perfume combo and she would have me smell it and give my opinion, it was fun. But I wasn't ready to go too deep yet so I found a reputable indie brand that sells a build your own sample set and went from there. I despise 3 of them on me and am on the fence with two, but that last one, I adore it. It's light, it's bright, it's clean, green, sweet, and floral. Is it the best perfume? No it tends to fade quickly but I also can get overwhelmed by scents so for me this was a plus.

Personal bias, I do get fragrances because I like them and people around me enjoy them. It's just another form of subculture people can fall into. It's been like this with clothes, accessories, and hairstyles. It moving to include fragrance is no surprise. As to if it's a problem, I think not.
I see both goods and bad but it's nothing new, since fragrance is simply another way to express oneself. It could be bad if you begin to get judged for what you wear, but is no different than what occurs again, with clothes, accessories, and hairstyles. Style rises and falls, it's natural since we first decided what is fashionable until now in modern day. The only new factor is social media's ability to quickly push it forward to a larger crowd.

I have 10+ perfumes in my collection. And I know I won't be able to wear them all but I'm already deep in the rabbit hole.
Do I regret buying them? No, because I can always divert a topic to my collection. It's always a conversation starter, and I always get to talk to people if they ask me what I'm wearing. Sharing my thoughts and listening to theirs.
It's an expensive hobby, but I'm happy with it.

I also think the rise in clone fragrances has a lot to do with it. Back when I was in middle/high school, there was this idea that anything at sephora/Macys/Khols was A.) Completely unaffordable and B.) Of the utmost quality. Many of the tik tok and youtube influencers are promoting sub 30$ fragrances that are cloning $400+ niche fragrances, and ofc the idea of smelling like $400 for cheap is appealing to teenagers. I know I would have been part of the trend had I known.

Fragrance brands need to offer way smaller bottles. Both for getting into a brand's vision of their scents and also for travel. This is why I usually wait for a big box store like Nordstrom to have a fragrance event/sale where they put out the tester bottles. Fill those up with scents I find interesting and then don't come back for months. Tho you'd only be getting the mainstream ones this way.

There’s some scent stores that sell small sample vials. Luckyscent is one of those brands and they offer a lot of niche brands. Some can get kind of pricey though.

I like many people got caught up in the world of fragrances although I think my interest began in the early waves when youtube was the main place for fragrance content. I went through the usual phase of over consumption and then fragrances tiktok really blew up at which point I think it got really tiresome. Most he content was centred around "buying" opposed to "reviewing" which I just found to be super unhealthy. I think my interest in fragrances is a little healthier now and I may have fragrance tiktok to thank for that in a weird way. The culture of overconsumption on the platform is just so in your face and hard to ignore. Atleast with youtube there's some veil of artistic appreciation

Havent watched the whole video yet, so maybe this was stated there. The thing is teenagers are all about finding who they are, to be reconized and not like the others. In the end of the day it all has sexual/finding a mate motives, even tho they might not recognize it. These fragrance help them pronounce their perception of who they are, who then wanna be, to be different and recognizable. Of course they wanna buy a bottle of something super nieche, cuz the tiktokers told them the perfume smells like a dominant powerful person. They all want to be that. Its rooted in evolutionary sexuology. To be important, powerful, the fittest, to be the ideal partner and in the end of the day, to reproduce.

I'm a guy, abt to be a hs senior, and haven't really heard of this... I definitely live in an area w its own weird culture and don't have tiktok on the other hand. As it is niche/weird fragrances seem maybe vaguely interesting but I couldn't justify the price or time spent. I wonder if that would change if I was in an environment where people around me, in person friends or people I share online spaces with, were into fragrances.
