  • Let's get the most out of sensors and create expressive DIY synths!!
We will be learning about one-to-many mapping in this tutorial!!

Zone mapping is good too, consider the left 1/4 of the ribbon is amplitude, right 3/4ths is pitch, with still the option for one to-many as your described. Great stuff!

That's an interesting approach! This particular ribbon sensor is single touch but there are multi-touch ribbon sensors out there to try this method!!

One to many mapping is a must for me. Otherwise, when I reduce my 3 watt laser image to a dot, it will burn straight through the flame retardant projection screen and into my 4k flat screen TV.😱
But, by mapping size and intensity together with the same MIDI control knob. My images automatically fade into the 'distance', creating a 3D illusion.
I'm also mapping X size and !Y size to create a symmetry control. Of course in the audio world, that would be L & !R mapped together for a pan control.
The capacitive touch strip is ideal for both applications, but with much faster action than knobs.
Another advantage to multiple mapping is conservation of the limited 127 MIDI control variables. Multiple functions are being called by a single knob/sensor's assigned MIDI CC#. IOW, one is only limited by one's own imagination (and software knowledge). I love this stuff! Now, my life has new horizons and goals. What more could any hermit want in life? Boredom, BE GONE!!
    😎

It would be fascinating to use speed of sensor value change for visual!
Accelerometer could be used to control the X and Y positions and the energy/speed of movement can control the size of an object for example.

@@SoundSimulator Thanks for the suggestions. I'm controlling X/Y size with the 2D Nextion touchscreens. Swipe bottom left to upper right increases both axii. A circle wobbles X/Y symmetry, for example.
The other hand can also control position on the second touchscreen. Or one movement can do all of the above. Why not throw in some color variables, just for fun. Now, a circular movement moves an image in an elliptical path, while fading color R-G-B, depending upon position. 😎
You know, there's not many people with whom I can discuss these matters.🙏

idk if this is relevant because im not too familiar with max mfp but if algorithms can be added to a patch then approximation algorithms can be a great addition to limit the inconsistent variables in speed input like if your slide speed is x and is close to a constant value y then all values close to it in a certain range will be set to y this can be used for different values just to make the filter or volume control more consistent I hope I made sense

Yeah, I think I know what you mean. It should make the speed data feel less all over the place!
The challenge with that approach is to not make it sound quantized in terms of volume.

    Hey Sound Simulator
I was wondering what your knowledge of Pure Data with Bela is and if you could do a video with the Bela and pure data mapping

    • @SoundSimulator
      @SoundSimulator  2 роки тому +1

The mapping will pretty much be the same! Instead of doing the serial communication, you use [adc~ 4] (and beyond) to get the sensor value.

      @@SoundSimulator ok thank you
I’ll be joining your Patreon this April. I primarily use Bela and Daisy pre your recommendation. Would these be topics we could have the hour lesson over?

      @@wingate8 Yes we can!
Looking forward to talking more about it with you!
