  • "I respect your opinion to be vegan but don't push your beliefs on me. That's wrong!" But is it? I hear this all the time when I am talking to people about being vegan, but is it wrong to push our beliefs? Is it ok to push veganism?
    In this video, I discuss if we should be out there pushing our beliefs and veganism. Many people say don't push your beliefs on me. Many people say vegans are pushy, and that it's wrong. And because of that people don't like "pushy vegans", but do these individuals really hold this belief?
    Are they logically consistent when this is applied to other beliefs? I don't think so, and I give plenty of examples in the video.
    Let me know what you think in the comments. Should we push our beliefs? Please watch the whole video if you are going to give your thoughts though. And as you are pushing your beliefs in the comments just try to be respectful. 😊
    Thanks for watching and don't forget to share, like, and subscribe. 💚🌱

    Thank you for discussing this topic Walter.
    I think the word " pushy" probably puts people off right away; particularly these days when it
    can be confused with rudeness and even violence.
    But standing up for, speaking out against and pushing back( resistance) are all actions that are necessary for the advancement of veganism/ animal rights.
    Your comparison with other " pushy" social justice movements( womens suffrage, slavery abolitionism, etc) is spot on!

      Thanks for watching Deb! I wish we didn't have to push at all. I wish everyone would just wake up to the reality that we are ruining everything by exploiting animals for food, clothes, and entertainment. But unfortunately, just like other issues, it takes pushing and a struggle to get the results sometimes. 💚🌱

      @@VeganYak I agree Walter. Everyday we get advertisements for eating animal flesh pushed on us. And our taxes are used to push subsidies for animal- exploiting industries.

    Congratulations to you two! I wish you and Brianna a long, healthy, happy life together!
    As is typical, I agree with the points you make, but I think another way to frame it is to say that non-vegans _do_ share our beliefs--they know that animals think and feel and don't deserve to be tortured--and just aren't aware of it, or aren't living according to that belief yet. Granted, there are people for whom this isn't true, but in true LBJ fashion, I want to hear them deny it. LOL! TFP : )

      Ha most definitely. Can't say that it is true for everyone but I agree that most actually have morals in alignment with veganism but just don't live like it yet, mostly because they are unaware. Thank you for your warm wishes and of course as always thanks for watching!! 💚🌱

    Way to go! 👍🌱💚
    I get so frustrated when I hear this, I have never done it and don’t know anyone who has! (Though I’m sure there are some)
    For the most part; vegans are a caring bunch (like der!) who want to open your eyes, for sure, but. “Pushing their views down you throat”?
    I have a friend who’s on a Keto diet and when she heard I’d gone vegan she said “Tell him to go to a field of cows and watch as they run up to thank you for eating them, because otherwise they’d not exist!”
    Gobsmacked!

      Ha it is surprising how many people are willing to push their non vegan belief the second you mention you are vegan but then get angry when you push veganism. It can definitely be one of the frustrating excuses to hear for sure. 💚🌱

      It would be wonderful if everyone was like you. I have a couple of vegan friends that say they accept everyone’s belief, but they only hang out with vegans and do activist events. I have an other friend that is passionate about sustainability and eats animals. People make a difference in different aspects of life, not everyone has focus on the vegan cause.

    Everybody pushes beliefs. So, the million dollar question is....what makes some belief to be valid? Is it sheer number of people or what? You push beliefs, I push beliefs, so which belief should be accepted and why?
    What you call "good for the society" is your belief which you push onto others. Do you see the problem?

    • @VeganYak
      @VeganYak  3 роки тому +1

      Totally understand what you are saying and it is a great point. 😊 This really though would be getting at subjective morality vs objective morality and the question you are basically asking is how de we know what is good vs bad. A worthwhile question of course that will always be debated and never really answered or at least not likely in this lifetime lol. I of course could tell you what I think but it would be just that. My subjective view.
      The point of this video however is not to prove what is good or bad but instead to hopefully promote logical consistency and to promote the idea that everyone pushes beliefs like you are saying, so they should stop telling activists not to and that it's not ok. Especially since the statement would be hypocritical in itself.
      Of course whether we like it or not the majority of society will decide what is allowed to be done and not to be done but that does not make it moral to everyone. This is part of the reason I feel people should push their beliefs in the most effective way possible. Someone's beliefs are going to be what is considered acceptable in society so if you want it to be your beliefs you better be willing to push and fight for them. Otherwise you should accept that other's beliefs will dictate your life. Maybe in the future I will do a video more on morals and ethics in general although there are of course plenty of channels one could go watch and they likely would go into much more detail than I ever would.
      Thanks for watching and for your thought provoking comment. Since my view is that reducing harm for the animals, the planet, and other humans is what would be best I will of course continue to push that belief and hope for meaningful change. 💚🌱

    I think it's wrong to "push beliefs" if the audience no longer has an open ear. Not all people who vote talk about what they vote for. That's why it's faux pas to ask what and who you vote for. I don't think it's wrong to exploit animals (eat, wear, own). If we hung out and you knew where I stood and wouldn't let it go about why I should be vegan, then I think you gone too far.

    • @VeganYak
      @VeganYak  3 роки тому +1

      I understand where you are coming from here and think many would potentially agree. However, you are really then approaching the territory of the best way to communicate if someone is turned off by the message not actually talking about whether or not it is ok to push your values and beliefs. And I am curious if you would hold this point of view for another issue. If someone believes it's ok to murder people and you try to talk to them but they don't have open ears then do you think you should stop trying to force your non murderous belief on them or would you try to stop them and force your beliefs even though they aren't open to your message? And why do you think it's ok to exploit animals?

    • @chriskoch2034
      @chriskoch2034 3 роки тому

      @@VeganYak to answer the murder analogy it's illegal to murder another human. It's perfectly legal to eat animals. If veganism one day was put on a ballot and I would probably silently vote against it. You could easily vote on it without talking to a soul. And maybe it would pass in the future and if that's what the people want then I would be ok with that. I think it's alright to exploit animals because they never have the potential to articulate why we shouldn't.

    • @veganian2019
      @veganian2019 3 роки тому

      Chris, why is it “faux pas” to ask which way you vote? What is scary about having an opinion? Secret votes are divisive as they encourage deceit if you have an opinion then surely you can back it up? If not then it isn’t your opinion but someone else’s and you thought it sounded good so you just repeat it! This is happening more and more in our society and I suggest it’s not healthy. I’m sixty and this used to be called “having the courage of ones conviction” but now people are frightened to death to say what they think or mean because it “might upset someone!” There can be real consequences though because we have been so tolerant and weak that we have allowed this Marxist cancel culture to pervade our society, so God help us all!

    • @VeganYak
      @VeganYak  3 роки тому

      First of all thank you for putting what you believe out here and being open in the conversation. I think if that continues you will likely change your mind on a few things here but we will see. Are you suggesting that if it was legal to murder you would do it and think it's ok? I gave the murder analogy as just one example but you can pick another. Imagine being back in times when slavery was legal. Would you be ok with owning slaves and slaves being whipped because of where it stands on legal grounds? Do you think we should use legality to dictate our morals? And I am genuinely curious why you would choose the ability to articulate as the trait making it ok to exploit other beings. And that must just mean speaking our language because there are pretty clear signs that animals don't like getting exploited. You can watch Earthlings if you need some proof. I mean in another hypothetical if aliens were real and came down and wanted to wipe us out because we didn't speak their language would you think that it's ok or would you want our species to fight for survival? When looking at whether it is ok or not to harm another being I don't know why we would look at the trait of speaking our language instead of the ability to feel pain and suffer. I mean by this logic it would be ok to exploit mentally challenged people because they would never have the ability to articulate why we shouldn't. It would be ok to have dog fights or to abuse your dog whenever you want because they can't speak.

      @@veganian2019 it's common knowledge that it's a cultural norm not to talk so openly about what you vote for. Surely you heard the expression "religion and politics are two things you never talk about at a party". Also that's why in person voting has barriers so the public can't see what you're voting for. I definitely agree that if you have position on a topic you should have knowledge and have done critical thinking of why you took that position.
