Thank you so much, best decision I ever made, I'm so thankful for your time and effort you put into saving innocent lives ! It works and it changes the world and people. He's passionate, yes. But he is also just plain wrong about many things. Meat does not cause all the diseases he says it does. It's a myth created by vegan activists, some of whom are doctors, like Greger and McDougall.

    • @bgtubber
      @bgtubber 5 років тому +163

      @@banishedfromthedwarfplanet530 There's vast amounts of research on the harmful effects of animal products on our bodies (atherosclerosis, kidney damage, insulin resistance, certain forms of cancer etc.) and almost none of these scientists were vegan. It's a scientific _consensus_ that animal products are harmful to our bodies. It's not a statement of vegan doctors only. Don't believe me, research it for yourself. As herbivores, we get atherosclerosis when consuming meat, eggs and dairy, as well as a host of other diseases that I already listed. Carnivores and omnivores (which we are not) _don't_ get atherosclerosis when consuming animal products. This is why the healthiest diet for us is a whole foods plant based diet.

    • @banishedfromthedwarfplanet530
      @banishedfromthedwarfplanet530 5 років тому +17

      bgtubber>> Not one word you said is backed by empirical evidence. It's all based on anecdotal evidence, self-reporting and outdated science. As far as me researching things myself, I'm WAY ahead of you.
      And you're wrong about omnivores not getting atherosclerosis. Chimpanzees in zoos years ago got heart disease from eating the processed carb diet that was given to them. This was despite the fact they got very little animal foods.
      It is hard for me to believe that in 2019 there are people who still think humans are herbivores. Total and utter nonsense. Humans are true omnivores, and virtually every anthropologist agrees. You need to find a way to pull yourself out of 1982.

    I’m 14 and I’ve been brought up as a vegetarian and now turning vegan. My entire life I had always been questioned by others, told its dumb and pointless for eating what I eat. The word vegan is used as an insult and it is seen as, especially when your a boy, and being ‘wet’ and ‘unalpha’ so its always awkward buying food and eating with others, feeling embarrassed. However thanks to people like Ed through educating, allowing it to be taken seriously, bringing it in to main stream media and exposing the industry for what it is, gives me so much more conviction in why not to be like everyone else around me. Ed you legend x

      @Aarin Yusuf Did you consider that the world is always changing? Meat was great to provide key nutrients before we had tools to optimise our meals like we got today (blood tests, vitamin preparations, knowledge about what you need to eat and what amount...). But nowadays, we don't eat meat because we need to - we eat it because we want to. We eat it for its taste. We would be totally healthy even without it.
      Let me tell you my story of stopping to eat meat: what I wrote above opened up this question to me of whether eating meat is something that still makes sense nowadays. I am a Muslim, and for us, every animal life is valuable and if you slaughter them, you need to do it in a way that is halal and you also need to take care that you do not waste anything of this sacrifice you made. First, I thought about mass production of meat and how we waste so much meat because we produce too much. Even if the slaughter was done in a proper way, you always kind of accept that you waste some part of the animal. And that is still haram (sin) because you know and make a choice to ignore it.
      So I thought: okay, let's just buy locally from a trustworthy butcher and farm that doesn't waste meat and takes care that everything is halal (proper/no sin). But once I did, I just realised how much more expensive that is. I'm not talking about double the price. The cheapest I could find was like 50€/kg and that's just impossible as a daily food for normal families. And they can't even sell much cheaper because it simply is that expensive to produce where I live. Any less, and they wouldn't be able to do it truly halal. And at that point, I just thought: well, if it is so hard and really just a luxury, then it can not be the kind of necessary slaughter the Quran allows us to commit. Of course, I am not a scholar and do not know everything in detail, but up till today I couldn't find any justification to still kill animals for out own food. After all, they are valuable lives as well and may only be ended for a good reason. And noone could tell me anything that woul say different. But if you aren't sure whether something is the right thing to do, then you need to avoid doing it, or you indirectly accept the chance of doing something wrong. So, if I don't want to eat potentially haram food, the only option was to stop eating meat. And that I did.
      What I wanna say: I personally have no real qualms about killing animals for their meat. People live, people die, animals live, animals die - that IS natural. But the way we do it nowadays, is just not how it is supposed to be. And once you think about it more deeply, you really cannot justify it that easily in any religion - whether you are Jewish, Muslim or Christian. Or even if you don't believe, you still got morals because that is what you were given as a human. And then, it still becomes hard to justify.
      So I really hope that you, just for yourself, think about what you feel is just and what the life of an animal means to you. I really don't think there is any objective right or wrong, but what is important is, that you think about it very deeply and decide whether killing animals the way we do right now is the right thing to do. Not just because it is "normal", but with a reason that someone with a different view of "normal" can understand as well.

      But that assumes taking an animal life is wrong, period. Highly debatable, imo. There are different levels of life that come with different levels of consciousness and correspondingly different levels of capacity for pain/suffering. Humans at the highest level with no close runner up. Then animals ranked from mammals to fish or something even less conscious then plant life, with no proven consciousness. You have to draw a line somewhere. I draw the line at humans, like the Bible does. With conscious life, I draw the line at minimizing suffering, which is a fuzzy line, and I'm willing to debate that, but never to completely prohibit killing. Human life trumps all.

    I cant believe I actually watched a 30 minute speech about veganism. I always joke around the idea of vegans with my friend, but after watching this speech it has made me realise the ignorance of my mindset.
    One thing that I did however already support was the idea, that cultures are bashed for eating animals such as dogs, whilst Westerners DONT complain about them eating pigs, cows, sheep etc.
    It just sounds so wrong, the way we treat animals, and the way that we try to justify it? The majority of people, including me, are/were being hypocritical on such matters of animal exploitation and abuse. I may start trying to make small changes to my diet first, before completely changing it. It’s gonna be really difficult, but after listening to this speech, it has really made me motivated to change my lifestyle, to not positively affect me, but the animals and the environment too.
    Thank you for this video ^^

I remember how many times I cried that first month because I actually went through withdrawals from cheese specifically. I thought my life was over because I couldn’t eat the things I wanted anymore. Now almost 6 years later it seems laughable. I’ve never been happier because I eat absolutely delicious food and I’m even more satisfied with my food than before I was vegan. Most change is really really hard, and that’s why most people don’t make changes and stick to them. It can be a really long journey to get there, but so worth it. I'm 16 and I've been vegan for 6 and a half months now and it has been one of the best decision I've ever made. My sister started first opening my eyes about it, so I made a promise to myself to just drop every piece of meat or dairy in our house. I was lucky enough to have the support of my family and am now happy with my eating choises.

    I’m 23 years old and became vegan a few month ago because of you. It made the wheels start turning and lead me to do my own research. I never would have thought me of all people would go vegan. I was born in Texas and now live in Arkansas and grew up thinking a meal wasn’t a meal without meat. Now I eat delicious whole plant foods and am healthier, happier, and more aware because of it. And honestly it was way easier than I expected.
    Challenging a way of life the majority of us, our family, our friends grew up believing is a feat in itself but I respect so much how you go about it calmly and logically. Thank you!

      Hey fellow vegan! I also was the kind of person who didn't think a meal without meat was food. I also had a huge aversion to vegetables and could only eat them in a purée form lol. Now, 4 or smth years vegan. The MOST challenging thing isn't be following what I know intellectually and compassionately that is right, it's the fact that I have opened my eyes to the cruelty and dissonance of the world, and I've become a spectacle for other people who don't want to see their own faults in their actions, and get defensive by my existence. That, is the hardest, but it's not hard in the slightest, especially when you compare this with all the suffering that the animals go through. I always remember that this movement is for the animals, it's not about me, and I will keep doing anything I can to fight for their right to live. We are in this together 💚

    Wow. Wow. Wow. I'm not vegan but this... This was so informative and really showed me how hypocritical and selfish I've been without even realizing it. My boyfriend is vegan and has tried to educate me but I always came up with BS excuses like "I don't have the time" or "it's not convenient" or "my family isn't vegan and I've been eating meat ever since I was little" all for the sake of my taste buds. This speech has really truly opened my eyes. I'm definitely gonna need help but, i wanna make a change. Thank you for this.

      @@sofia-uw5dt I'd suggest educate yourself by reading about nutrition (for examples, Becoming Vegan by Davis and Melina and How Not To Die by Dr. Greger) and finding out more about what the animals go through -- pretty much what I think you're doing now.
      Workout and look healthy and strong. Don't talk about it unless someone asks you genuine questions. If you feel they are just trolling you, break off the conversation and continue to live a cruelty-free life. You don't have to bring it up at all; someone will eventually get curious and bring it up themselves.
      In my own experience, my family still doesn't care about animals, but they no longer challenge me on nutrition because the science is overwhelmingly favourable for a plant-based diet. Plus, they don't look to healthy themseleves. I have however, influenced friends and colleagues to either being vegan or really thinking about what they are doing to animals. This isn't because I bring up the topics; they do! I don't consider myself preachy, and will answer any questions someone that's wants a genuine conversation.
      Summary: mostly keep quiet and continue to acquire knowledge and life the healthy and ethical life.

I was waiting for the countdown before I could skip and saw the length of the video and thought 'I could never watch the whole of that'. However, there was just something about you that made me want to carry on watching and I ended up viewing the entire video. It was so hard hitting and I even started to cry a little at one point but everything you said is so true. I don't eat meat very often because if I do, I have to force myself not to think about the fact that I'm actually eating an animal. Having watched this video, I think it's time that I make a change.

      Rio Tobias Deacon I live in Texas and had the pleasure of meeting him last night giving this speech, as part of his Texas Tour. I'll also have the opportunity to go to an animal vigil, a rodeo protest and work in a Sanctuary, all part of the events he's attending here in our area. He is amazing and I'm so grateful he's helping, in such respectful manner, to spread this powerful message. I was vegetarian for 10 years, for the animals, little did I know I wasn't helping much...animals were still dying to end on my plates. I finally opened my eyes and went vegan 6 1/2 years ago. I'll be vegan for life and the only thing we can ever regret is not doing it before. Animals, the Planet, and humanity can't wait for too long. We have to be part of the change. If you haven't watched Earthlings, I highly recommend it. For your health watch What the Health,and for environmental reasons Cowspiracy.

      I know he's a controversial figure, but that one presentation by Gary Yourofsky got me good, some months after I had already been vegan, and some several years after I was aware of my hypocrisy and guilty conscience. Ed speaks the same truths, its just that he drives them in with a softer hammer.
      I love Ed's tactics when discussing veganism and animal rights with non-vegans, as it's a lot less aggressive, but I watch snippets of both of them from time to time just to remind myself to stay determined.

    I’ve been an unflinching vegetarian leaning on vegan since I found out that meat was made from real dead animals at around 7 years old, and have recently, at 19, made the switch to full veganism. Your words illustrate what I’ve wanted to say for years to my friends and family who would try to invalidate my beliefs and look down on me for sticking by them. The unwavering confidence with which you speak makes this speech all the more impactful, and watching it made me feel truly seen and understood for the first time in my life. I found myself violently nodding and smiling every time you so eloquently found the words for the thoughts that have spiraled inside my head for as long as I can remember. Everyone in my life made me feel wrong for what I believed, and yet my beliefs never budged. Now that I’ve made the final switch to veganism, I’m more proud of myself than ever before. Sure, I have a lot of work to do on my diet, but it’s something I’m more than willing to work at for the good of animals and humans alike

      we are definitely designed to eat meat and I'll prove it to you. We have FRONT facing eyes like all carnivores whereas herbivores have their eyes on the sides of their heads to look out for predators. We also have incisors and canines and as short as they may be they are still sharp and very much there. Humans have also eaten and cooked meat for hundreds of thousands of years and would therefore obviously evolve into something capable of consuming it. And the fact that we can consume meat at all shows we are not herbivores as herbivores cannot even chew meat let alone digest.Also, carnivores have a stomach ph of 1 and omnivores have 2 to 3. Guess what humans have? 1.5. It's also said that herbivores small intestines are 10 to 12 times longer than their bodies whereas herbivores are only 3 or 4. Humans small intestines are 20 feet long and 20 divided 5 or 6 is most definitely NOT 10 or 12, but 4 or 5. We are definitely all for meat.

      Now that's jumping from the fire back into the frying pan! Well done! You can be strong eating a plant based diet, but is it true? Or is everything you were led to believe a lie, including plant based diets? I found the truth, I'll be happy to share it with you. Vegetarianism is a healthy diet, but doctors will wear that veggie grin if you told them of a liquitarian diet, the doctor said it was healthy.

      Absolutely noway the advancement of mankind can co-exist with out the cost of animals. That is part of nature. We can still be cognizant and humane.
      Becareful of the buisness of things in this consumer world. Make you feel guilty to be alive followed by billing you for your sickness or "sins".
      Being Vegan for sure will make you ill, frail and weak. Also very weak minded. Depriving enjoyment of food. It's a constant cleanse that leads to your body eating itself. It's awful for your hormonal balance.
      Sometime it just disguised as some just eating more nutritional vegetables in their diet for the first time. They notice more energy and weight loss. So they vouch themselves into the ground.

      You can only change yourself, not others - and I am afraid somebody like Ed will break with the try. I am talking out of experience here.
      Also there is no movement. There is only natural learning process of humans in my sense of the world. Nobody has to do anything for it, but only for his own change. Sounds terrible at first, I know, but also very alleviating. Also it is enough work to change yourself. More more changing, and more more people will be paragons. Its all happening by itself. It needs no 'leaders' or new relegions.
      This would only lead to new division and problems. So follow yourself, is the bottom line, I guess.

    My dad recently brought home a rooster that was being abused because he felt really bad for him. I’ve been taking care of him, feeding him covering it’s coop at night etc. I spend a lot of time with him basically and seeing his characteristics absolutely amazes me. He gets excited for his veggies when he sees me and he’s just so cute and i love him. He made me go vegan. I just couldn’t imagine myself eating a sentient being after loving animals so much.
    I’m from Mexico and a lot of families have their own land and their own animals or they buy them off of each other. One time a cow got ran over and the owner started crying in front of everyone, or when a calf dies at birth the owner (my grandpa being one) becomes extremely sad for the mom. Since the Catholic religion is a big part of Mexican culture the priest would have a day where he would bless the animals. The church gets full of cows, bulls, chickens, goats etc all with flower decor (its beautiful.) Even though they feel love and compassion for these animals they still sell/trade for their milk and meat. They value these animals a whole lot. I’m not justifying eating meat or any product from any animal but I could not judge natives etc who valued their land and the animals who walked on it.

      Do your actual research instead of listening to the globalist vegan lies. Plant agriculture destroys the environment and animal habitats WAY more than animal agriculture. Everyone hates factory farming but there are much better ways of farming animals for food which give them fulfilling lives and actually massively improve the environment, restore the soil & provide massive amounts of nutrient-dense animal foods. The push to go meat-free is evil and all part of a control system. Listen to world champion rowing sprinter Doctor Shawn Baker or professor Bart Kay, Doctor Anthony Chaffee etc. Try bringing your kids up vegan and see how quickly they die. Countless couples have done it now & they get what they deserve🤷🏼‍♂️

    62 year old dude here and 5 days into my journey being “animal free”. I feel lighter, lost a couple pounds and just better in general. Joking aside, I have suffered a lifetime of hemorrhoid pain....5 days after going vegan, ALL symptoms have COMPLETELY dissipated. I must admit, I was not expecting that one.

      @@swisstrader Great! Good on you. Omega-3 can be found walnuts, flaxseeds, hempseeds, chia seeds and seaweed. Seaweed is also a great source of iodine which is important. If you're worried you're not getting enough Omega 3 I would suggest taking a Omega 3 DHA supplement made of Algae (the same place salmon gets their DHA Omega-3. DHA is the bio-available form of Omega-3)

      If you buy locally and go to the farms that actually work hard to supply animals a healthy life. Youd still be eating meat. @@tristenkuhn2266 not to be rude, but I am well, i got better by going vegan. I eat out of convenience cause buying veggies and grains and nuts and seeds and fruits are much better than buying dead pieces of animals and eat their corpses. That's disgusting and atrocious. It doesn't matter if a farmer treats his animals with a good life, they still end up in the slaughterhouse with a bolt gun to the head a knife against their throat. How is that okay? Its more convenient to eat vegan and not harm animals than to support these horrid places. I think you need to re-evaluate your life mate. I buy locally fruits and veg. I don't need meat. And no I won't eat meat even of the animal had a good life. Killing animals for your own greed and need is called lazy. Eating meat is disgusting and its murder. And I won't ever support that industries again. So go and call someone else lazy. Wtf son

      Jeffrey Arne Yap: A few minutes later he brings up a scenario in which you get a knife too.
      Nonetheless, the consumption of meat and other animal products isn't at all necessary to our development or baseline nutrition anymore - especially in the west. We *did* require the consumption of cooked meat essentially to help complex brain development back when our species was first developing, to my knowledge.
      The moral argument is still there, as is the issue that we near enough must cook all meat to render it suitable for our consumption. Widespread lactose intolerance is also a factor.

    • @jatyap
      @jatyap 6 років тому

      F Ahmed we don't need to cook all meat. Properly farmed meat (especially in Japan, Germany etc) are perfectly fine eaten raw, and people do eat them raw. Moreover, a lot of things are not absolutely necessary, but are still considered basic necessities (People lived without electricity in centuries before, you know, and production of that is still one of the biggest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions worldwide). However it doesn't change the fact that those reasons (including the moral ones) are not enough justification for someone to stop eating meat (studies have shown plants also react to being eaten). Let's just put it this way. If you don't like meat, good on you. I like the taste, texture and energy profile of meat, and will continue consuming it, so we're all good, ok?

      Jeff, you need to educate yourself more on this topic. There is simply too much to address in your comments for me to address on here succinctly so I'll go over one point quickly. I agree plants show signs of stimulation. Studies suggest plants respond via electrical stimulation. Your brain right now is responding to electrical stimulation reading this. It is not hurting you. Electrical stimulation does not imply pain, only sensational responses just like sight or hearing. Conveniently enough, plants do not have a brain or nerves to process pain either. So how could they possibly feel anything?
      Read up more on the topic, Jeffery. I can tell you're a smart guy. Your logic is flawed only because you simply haven't educated yourself enough. I would welcome you to check out Ask Yourself's youtube channel. He hosts debates regarding veganism all the time and I think you can learn the most there over time. Veganism is not really all that different from what most of society believes is moral today. Veganism is simply logically consistent there and is not as hypocritical as society is in regards to how animals should be treated.
