    Happy New Year Steve. It's funny how you brought up that you were involved in developing the squidgies. I have a Starlo and Bushy squidgy case from back in the day. Anyway, tight lines, mate and I hope to catch you on the water one day.

    Happy New Year mate - great video and newsletter as usual ;-) I have also switched to the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pros and am loving them with the remote Mic 2's for audio as well. I have also been wearing prescription sunglasses for a few years now and probably should have started earlier 😊 All the best to you and Jo for 2025 🥳🎉🎉🎉

    Good on ya Starlo. Wishing you all the best for 2025 and can't wait to see what you get up to this year. I've recently bought some Fish bites off you and I'm so keen to put them to the test. So many times I want to go for a quick bait fish before or after work and getting bait is normally a deterrent so hopefully this takes away 1 excuse!

    Hey Steve, happy new year to you also. I’m trying to chase down a decent how to on tying fishing knots. I’m the same vintage as yourself but have only ever used the 2 knots my late uncle showed me back when I was a kid. Not sure if you published something at all over the years that I can chase down. You wouldn’t remember me obviously but in the early days whenever you & bushy got together at the fishing shows I was there without fail, great memories…….ive loaned my boxed set of how to use squidgies to my son which I must get back off him sooner than later 😢 take care, love your work and stay safe. Cheers mate 🍻

    Been eyeing the Dialuna since your review, seemed like not many stores ended up stocking it in Aus and the 10 footer was sold out everywhere online. Luckily after this video I done a search and bought the last one at 20% off. Excited to put in some work at my local beach! Happy new year Starlo. I've been enjoying your Aussie fishing adventures and tutorials.
    As a newbie to fishing my head aches from trying to decide a rod for soft lure casting for land or shore based fishing (sea sickness on boats) since I cannot find a place that can offer try before you buy. It's a tough one for sure, maybe try a 7 1/2 footer or thereabouts? I've been very impressed by the new Artiesta models from Shimano, but some of their more affordable ranges are also excellent. Depends a lot on what line strength and lure weight you want to use.

  • @realfamilyman
    @realfamilyman 16 днів тому +2

    Beginner here... Something I don't understand and keep seeing over again, is many people say don't use thick mono, that it scares fish off from taking the bait... but then every braid seems to be a bright fluorescent colour like glaring visuals don't matter after all.

    • @neilforbes1082
      @neilforbes1082 16 днів тому +2

      That’s why you tie on a length of fluorocarbon at the end of the line for your terminal tackle.

    • @StarloGetsReel
      @StarloGetsReel  16 днів тому +3

      Yep, as Neil stated, that's why we always use a leader of clear nylon or fluorocarbon, with braid usually about a rod length long. As well as serving several other important purposes, this leader separates the often highly visible braid from the lure or bait.

    • @espoton
      @espoton 16 днів тому +2

      Fishing is a game of percentages. Increase the percentages in your favour and you'll increase your success rate. Bait or lure presentation is right up there. So thinner line can help plus it is easier to cast. For braid I use bright colours so that I can see it better and it casts like a rocket with light lures. Attaching a flurocarbon leader also reduces visibility at the action end. There is more to successful fishing than you might think. As a beginner if you stick with it, you have a lot of fun, (and frustration), ahead of you. Good luck.

      Most fish are caught when it's low light conditions or murky water.
      On a beach with clear water on a bright day, you'll need to use the thinnest clear line you can.
