    The second pair of scissors with the round ball on the tip are also preferred for cutting vet wrap/bandages off of your horse. If you’ve got a thick snug bandage on and are changing frequently, if you want to take it off quickly instead of unwrapping, you can safely run the rounded part inside the bandage against the skin without poking them in the skin or wound

    In my first aid kit I also have magnesium sulfate to make into a paste for a poultice. I also have nappies, they make the best covering for a hoof poultice, and finally I have a sterile trauma dressing. These are typically used fir gun wounds and bad trauma. They make excellent pressure bandages. A friend takes trauma coagulant granules hunting. I thought she was mad but she actually saved a horse from catastrophic bleeding 2 seasons ago.
    A ligature knife is good for cutting hay nets away fast and safely.

    I have dentist bibs so you can lay all your bits and bobs out on the floor like bandages or tape and they don’t get dirty:)

  • @nozee77

    Be very careful with thermometers that don't have either a long band/cord or a very thick end which prevent the thermometer to get sucked inside the horses anus.
    That happens more often that one might think!
    And nobody wants their horse in need of surgery to remove a thermometer out of their intestines... 🙈
    Also, most vets appreciate it very much, if people use colorless desinfectants rather than purple or silver, because the colors make it more difficult for them to examine the wound.
    If no vet is necessary, the coloured ones are fine of course.
    Additional stuff I have in my kit are: Iodine soap and iodine wash, zinc salve, colic drops (brands differ), cooling cream, also instant coffee sticks can help when a horse is in danger of a circulatory collaps, Electrolytes (Heatstroke).
    Diapers come in handy if you have to make a hoof bandage. 🤗

    My old horse once had a gigant deep cut to his knee. My vet recommended incontinence pads, because they are individually wrapped and sterile, and wont stick to the wound. Plus, they can stick to whatever you wrap around to secure it. Worked at charm :)

I’m going riding either tomorrow or Tuesday and I learnt so much stuff like how to tack up a horse entirely as-well! but they where both behind the stables so im quite unsure how they ended up there..

    I love your videos so much. Even when I have limited internet left. You are the youtuber I priorities! ❤
    Only thing that bothered me. And this is probably just because I am so used to wound care.
    They aren't steril. They are just really clean. For it to be sterile it has to go thru a proses then be vacuum sealed and all that! But then again, it's probably just me who do a lot of medical wound care that actually cares about that stuff. 😊

    • @ragnkja
      @ragnkja Рік тому

      I wanted to comment this as well. To keep something sterile you need to keep it sealed up protected from any and all contaminants, including the atmosphere, and the moment a sterile thing touches a non-sterile thing, it stops being sterile.

    • @ThisEsMe
      @ThisEsMe  Рік тому +2

      I do actually have some sterile towels - they've been autoclaved and then sealed in bags ( I just didn't want to open them on camera...and thus make them not sterile)

    This might be weird, but for abcess’, we use diapers! It fits their hooves really well and you can put any sort of medicine/dressing on the hoof, and then you can vet wrap over the diaper, and ten duct tape! It is easier than using a cloth on their hooves
