In hot conditions provide:
Water ( a horse can drink over 25 litres of water a day, more in hot conditions )
Shade - trees/cover
Ventilation - breeze/fans
avoid work or travel during the hottest parts of the day
remember older horses or those with pre-existing medical conditions can be more susceptible to heat stress - prevention is better than cure
heat stress can present with raised temperature, pulse, respiratory rate and irritability

She loves her horses so much and I love the fact how good their taken care of even if her horses gets hurt and she gets breakdowns cause of that or if she falls off she doesn’t say it’s the horses fault she just gets up and goes again
Great public service announcement, Esme. Animals get distressed by sudden weather swings just as people do. We have dog deaths every year in the USA due to people leaving them in vehicles in the heat. Cars heat up at an alarming rate in the sun even with the windows partially open. Thank you for your awareness of the greater good, Esme. You rock! 😎🌈💜🇺🇸

Esme, I am glad you are keeping an eye on your boys..and taking preventetive measures. I do this myself before knowing any hwatwave is coming as it can trigger severe migraine so Iv learned to hydrate a day before.and I stay indoors.those soaked buckets with your recipe is right as they will retain the fluid in their system for longer.
YES, you are a great moma. Also mickey being fair his eyes need protection. I would recommend doing clipping ahead of the day of heat just to ease any stress and tension. In severe heat covering up with cool fabric can keep them cool as well. When you baby talk I really relate. Im the same😅😊
Yeah my mom has a 36 year old horse and he’s actually doing very well but In the summer he gets over heated, your the best this Esme and you take the best care of your horses possible ❤

But!Additionally, Mickey has other health issues making it extra harder!

Minnesota (very northern state in America) has insane weather. Our winter this year lasted from September to late April. It was about -30F to -40F on average
Now our summer is already in 90F to 100F. The weather can change three times in a say (seriously, I've had to change multiple times a day because of weather)
Although my horse is used to the sudden weather changes, sometimes she struggles too, and she's quite old
I wish you the best with all your horses and animals, I hope nothing bad happens to them. :)

Hey Esme one thing I HIGHLY recommend for Mickey would be that in his stall you could install a fan during the summer heat we do this for all are horses or you could even also put one in there out door field shelter too. Just thought this could maybe be a thought or something to help Mickey out!>3

Hi Esme! Here in Portugal in summer sometimes we hit 40 degrees. The horses are already fine with it. But in the UK im imagining it! Must be such a bad thing! But have a nice day an recoveries for the horsies

My late mare had an entire indoor arena as her field shelter and yet she preferred to stand out in the elements. Heavy rain, hail, scorching sun, etc.

I’m in Australia so understand the heat - you can set up a fan in the stable it’s amazing how much this will help keep him cool - midday is usually the hottest part of the day my horses always go in under the fans at this time of day - electrolytes in their water buckets - horses and ponies are incredibly adaptable - also check the water for the temperature under the sun the water heats up very quickly and they won’t drink hot water
In Canada we have hay cubes which seem similar to your slop blocks. I feed them soaked in water as well.

In the US when it gets hot and humid abruptly -a lot of folks turn their horses out at night and leave them in during the day . Also we use farm safe fans (making sure they are safe and grounded for barn use )and the horses love them. Also helps the horses with insects (being turned out at night ).

Hey Esme I have a little tip for Mickey, in the US where’s it’s the hot regularly, we put fans on the fence of the pastures of the horses that get hot really easily. So that the horses can go there to cool off if anything. I don’t know it it matters but it’s by the water troughs probably to encourage the horses to drink if they’re cooling off or to cool off the horses while they’re drinking. We also put fans in the stables.

I went for a hack the other day with my sister and one of our friends, and (since she had a bay, and my sister and I had dapple greys) basically the whole time, my friend was just killing flies 😂.

A nice little trick from here in the US…ponies go out super early, hose and get turned in with fans for mid day heat, and back out after it starts to cool for a few more hours

With all the fur coming from the donkeys, you could make individual sweaters for each of them! 😄
Wet Cotton Horse Rug! I can defineatly recommend Herbb Horse Rugs, they are brilliant! Just put the rug on and hose off with cold water. If kept in the shade such as a stable or wash bay they will stay cool for ages! Here in France today it was 35° so we did it for one of the horses at the yard who doesn't like the heat and he loved the whole experience so much! My horses love it too! Try to hose every 2 hours but if you can't it doesn't really matter because the Horse will not over heat in cotton (please do not try in any other material especially polyester) great tip and is one of my horses favourite experiences during the summer xxx ❤ hope Mickley feels better soon

We had horses in Florida when i was growing up and we would give them a bran mash with molasses. They would intermittently ingest sand and it would give them colic, (which unfortunately took some of them😢). Our horses absolutely loved it, it was like a treat for them.

If you have any more heat waves hear is a tip you put fruit in a ice Trey and fill up with water and let it freeze they give them to your horse and you could enjoy some too❤😂

we are in the Usa (SC) and for us early summer we are normally at lower 80s but today only like a couple days into 'summer' it was 91 degrees Fahrenheit which is quite unusual for the very start of summer.
