And Nothing ls Forever. Makes me cry every time I hear it. So beautiful and so sad. RS has said in interview that he wrote this song as he had promised to be with someone (he doesn’t say who, but I suspect a parent) when they died. He was unable to fulfil his promise and missed their death. So he wrote this song instead. Clearly he is singing it from their perspective. The loved one dies at the end of the song as their life and the music fades. In the silence of a heartbeat. …….silence/ death. This song has helped me grieve for all the loved ones i have lost. RS often had a hug from other band members before he sings this live. Especially on the European legs of the tour in 2022. Must have been difficult for him to sing initially. Love your reactions, great to see someone who feels the music ❤
I love your expressed emotion. I'm 53 yo and The Cure was a huge part of my teenage years. I pretty much skipped a bunch of albums at some point, hearing the singles and being on a different musical path. About 5 years ago I started going back and listening to the music that I had missed (approx 1990 to 2008) and found so much good int there, I was excited to realize that there was so much content in these "bad" albums that brought me such pleasure--and pain. It's a potentially cathartic experience when you listen to their music in the right space for it. I've been excited for this new music since the announcement and am so pleased by the release. I was waiting at a red light the other morning listening to this album. I don't remember what song it was. Somewhere in the first 3 songs, maybe. But a little sob came out of nowhere. So nice to have them back.
Hello from Germany. I "found" The Cure in 1988 and since this time i hear and feel them. For me (and maybe all emotional people) it is not just music - it is a different dimension of music. The music of my life ❤
Watching this reaction was so special, i`m from Argentina and a the cure fan since always...and having this conection with the band and watching you so emotionally connected, made me fall in tears too. Thank you so much
I’ve been loving this album since it came out - was lucky enough to see them play most of it when they toured a couple of years ago. Yet I’d never really absorbed the lyrics of I Can Never Say Goodbye - couldn’t help but shed a few tears because we’ve all been in that position, he did his brother proud with that song
This is on par with Disintegration no question in my mind but this a band with full life experience and it shows. They have literally smashed it out of the park. At 53 and a life long fan i can relate to his way of thinking and writing. This is a masterpiece it truly is.....
at first I thought "Alone" was the most beautiful song on the album...but then they released "And Nothing is Forever" on YT this week... oh my God, I have no words 😭
Not listened to a 'reaction video' before. Really enjoyed your take on this masterpiece. You speak from the heart and with great eloquence. Brilliant...
It might be hard for you fans who are younger to relate to the lyrics, but there is a type of reflection you have at a certain older age. It's not that you've necessarily lived a bad life, but that life goes by so quickly and you have to witness the end of so many people and things, including yourself. And 33 yo, is no where near that age yet... Best Album of 2024.
I dont think his playing goes with the cure...he is the least Cure of all of their guitarists..... I hate what he does with A Night Like This, Prayers For Rain, Endsong....😢
Reeves is "too much" for Cure sound, for me. Sometimes he destroys the atmosphere with his solos...concrete example is the difference between robert and reeves solo on I can never say goodbay
I loved your reaction to I can never say goodbye, I think it's one of the most human and realistic reactions I've seen in videos of this kind. And by the way, from now on Endsong is The Cure's longest song, the previous one was The same deep water as you with 9:22 minutes😺
Stoked for this review, may not get to all of it but will be back to follow up! ..... Ok I have watched it now and will go back again. Beautiful review @Walterooski There are few that can review like you do, I love the emotion, how you articulate and the details you focus on. As a song writer myself, watching your videos assists others in the acknowledging the beauty of nuance, the lyrics, the drums, guitar effects, the layers, orchestrations, time signatures, keys etc You have a lot of wisdom for a 33 year old. Keep doing what you do man, great stuff. This album is phenomenal and you captured it very well. I can't add links here so I will email you a few things I was going to post on here. There is an amazing interview Robert did and he talked about details of the new songs.
This feels like the natural successor to Bloodflowers. It's like the last two albums never happened. They had some good songs, but let's be honest, they were inconsistent & poorly produced. This is the exact opposite! It's beautiful!
The Warsong intro instrument is a Harmonium (or at least a synth version) - similar to Untitled from Disintegration. The melody was played by Robert on the Bass VI. Many of the feedback style guitars were actually taken from the live performances (they played to a click to have that option).
Thanks for this wonderful review of this wonderful album. I agree with you - it is a masterpiece. It moves me to see how you are moved by music and lyrics. I wish @robertsmith would see this. I remember listening to Alone and Endsong for the first time. It was at their first show (Riga) of the last tour and I was shocked - not having expected that Robert can still touch my soul with new music. Have you ever seen them live? If not, this is something you have to do. Cheers from Germany…
Maybe you will find the true meaning of ALONE in this Dowson poem - Dregs The fire is out, and spent the warmth thereof, (This is the end of every song man sings!) Your reaction to this masterpiece is spot on. As a much older fan, this record feels like a journey to stations which are drawing ever closer & more familiar. The view from here isn’t always sunny, & the depth of despair in reflection can be real, devastating. The genius of Robert Smith & The Cure 💯 nailed it 👏👏👏
This album was completely unexpectedly amazing. Been a fan for 30 years and i dont have the words. Did not think even The Cure would be able to produce something like this after so long. Top 3 after Disintegration and Wish for me without question. Every song a classic. Warsong even for me comes close to verging on Doom Metal vibes which blew me the fuck away as that is one of my fav music genres. The comparisons to Disintegration i can understand but i honestly feel this is a sister to Bloodflowers (was in my 3rd spot until now lol).
The thing that really struck me is Robert Smith. The dude sounds like he's literally been frozen in time. He sounds exactly the same as when he left all these years ago. Love the guy.
Love your review and the way you bring emotions to your narrative!! Thanks for this. Love The Cure and think this album is great! Greetings from Lima, Perú. 🎉
Hey there. First time ever seeing you and I’m thrilled to see someone truly understand and feel the emotion that music brings into our lives. In my opinion, no one does it better than Robert Smith. I’ve been a Cure fan since 1985 when I was in high school and have had to explain why I don’t find them depressing countless times. Robert has the genius to allow the listener to feel these complex emotions, not to be punished by them. This latest album is a masterpiece and I’m so happy it brought out such an emotional release. I feel reaction videos are usually a somewhat pandering way to get likes from fans but in this case, you seem legit. Keep your chin up and if you haven’t already, listen to the Disintegration, Pornography and Faith albums. Keep it real brother. Sending love from Canada.
I Interpreted the "Something Wicked This Way Comes" As The Cystic Fibrosis That Took My Little Brothers Life" He was Only 16Yrs Old & The Most Beautiful Soul You Could Ever Have In Your Life! 😢
Mr Robert want to sing about his life and is beautiful Album we connected with the life what we live 🙌 I wrote the song about it, and the music itself was what I wanted to breathe. I didn’t want the words to dominate the song, in a way that the music can become a backdrop to what you’re singing. In this, I think the music is more important than what I’m singing in a way. It’s a very difficult song to sing. People say ‘cathartic’ too much, but it was. It allowed me to deal with it, and I think it’s helped me enormously.” Speaking about how he approached addressing such a personal and emotional topic on ‘I Can Never Say Goodbye’, he explained to Everitt that he decided to tackle it in a simple, narrative way. “I wrote this song a lot of different ways, until I hit on a very simple narrative of what actually happened on the night he died,” he said. “It went all around the houses and I went everywhere with this song to sum up how I felt. In the end, it turned into a reasonably bleak little vignette. Robert Smith of The Cure has opened up about writing of his brother’s death in their track ‘I Can Never Say Goodbye‘, featuring in their upcoming album ‘Songs Of A Lost World’.
Drone has become one of my favorites. Initially, it was my least favorite song on the album. Now, I can’t wait for it when listening to the record. That vocal melody is off the charts.
❤❤ If you promise you wont leave me at the end ❤❤ Robert just broke me . This song is a mix of "Just like Heaven" and to "Wish impossible things" I felt like you said. This is all i wanted all my life. Such a romantic song😊😢
Yes, there are longer Cure songs. Carnage Visors is a 28 minute instrumental track. I think as songs Watching Me Fall and possibly The Promise are, I think, longer than this one.
@ it was a track they used to play during the tour supporting the Faith album instead of having a support act.. So it would’ve played before The Cure came on and was accompanied by a film made by Simon Gallup’s brother, Rick. That’s where the idea of it being a movie soundtrack came from
@@frankalfarThe film was made by Ric Gallup and was shown as a support on the Faith tour but there was an error in the film processing and it was made far too dark. It hasn’t been seen since but a few short clips were up on UA-cam
I lost my parents this last year and my brother has been gone for some time now. Also lost my best friend in 2019. Needless to say, this album is like a full blown exorcism when I listen to it. The Cure has gotten me through so much already.
Mr. AllMusic published a very elaborate description and review! Your reaction is straight! Moreover, they perfectly demonstrate the full extent of this high-quality opus. I fully agree with the review. This is one of The Cure's best albums with: 1. Pornography; 2. Disintegration; 3. Songs...; 4. The head...; 5. Kiss me... Several other reviews mention that this album is beautiful, but depressing. This album is more than that. The atmosphere, the sounds and the content form the expression of an inspired and skillfully presented work. That these critics consider the album depressing is an opinion, but the subjects treated and chosen go in the direction of a tragedy. When an artist chooses to talk about suicide, death, the end of things, it cannot be otherwise! Besides, if we focus on the titles alone, we find the essence of the subject: ... alone... nothing is forever... fragile... war... nodrone... never... end... There is nothing joyful there!!! Once the subject is understood, we enter the musical world and that is where EVERYTHING makes sense! The dissonant guitars, the repetitive and bewitching drums, the heavy bass, the atmospheric synths... everything conjures to transport us to the afterlife, if only we are sensitive to it. So I will dance on the Endsong as a man alone before the fate of the world with dark glasses that are worth as much as those of the pleasant but superficial ditties of the current songs and... so sad by their scope! The Cure deals with sad things, it is true, but my god it is joyful to get carried away and fly away with them!!! I will be at their next show in Quebec to celebrate their vision... and I will not be the only one... living from this collective divergence, shared with the joy in my heart of dancing on the sadness of this world!
I listened to this track like 4 times in a row. Loved the live and the studio version. I could connect to the lyrics as i aometimes feel that way, specially when i feel like the new generation is tsking over and some of the older and younger folks i used to know that i grew up with are now dying. Also this song made remind me of my young eleven year self who used to be cool, laugh, speak with his mind and with confidence and wanted to be a video game maker or paleontogest..... i wonder what happened to that boy and who am i know but a grown ass 40 year old.
Good job with the review. Your comments about "And Nothing Is Forever" and the speaker wanting someone to be with them until the end reminds me of Nick Drake (one of Robert's favorites), and the words to the brilliant song "Northern Sky": Would you love me for my money Would you love me for my head Would you love me through the winter Will you love me till I'm dead Oh, if you would and you could Come blow your horn on high
I’m from the USA is really the only thing I know for sure. With that said, it’s never been mentioned that I have any type of Polish origins. I’d actually love to do blood test and figure that out though.
I heard you mention KEXP in another video. Just want to say that I've heard KEXP play some of these songs, which kind of surprised me. Now if they would just throw in some new Phish once in a while. 😀⭕
Thankyou for your review 😊. Off this new album, I love the opener and the closing track. I also like 'I can never say goodbye'. The other tracks are not my cup of tea. Sonically it's not a very pleasing album: the music sounds 'busy' / distorted.
It's kinda fucked up that terrible things have to happen to the band members to embrace their final phase. I feel like this is it, at their age they reach the peak again, it happens so rarely. I cannot see the next album/albums beating this.
The cure are one of the best band in the músic history and Robert IS a truth genious. Saying that, i dont think this álbum IS as good as the cure masterpieces of the 80s or wish. I see too much sounds , specially from reeves gabrels, that blur the main melodies and for me, just doesnt sound so beautiful. Anyway i think the fragile thing, and nothing IS forever and i can never say good bye are very good songs. Also this álbum remain the cure status on the top.
My friend complained he had to go to toilet during that live performance. I was so annoyed. He had to wait - lol. One of the most epic performances ever... and he had to go to the toilet.
Endsong might be one of the very best songs of their 45 year career.

I cry every time I listen to Nothing is Forever; such a beautiful song. I'm so proud of The Cure, the band and soundtrack of my life.
A perfect connection between Alone and Endsong. The end of every song.

They didn’t.

Also this song made remind me of my young eleven year self who used to be cool, laugh, speak with his mind and with confidence and wanted to be a video game maker or paleontogest..... i wonder what happened to that boy and who am i know but a grown ass 40 year old.
masterpiece. and a brilliant reaction.
Good job with the review.
Your comments about "And Nothing Is Forever" and the speaker wanting someone to be with them until the end reminds me of Nick Drake (one of Robert's favorites), and the words to the brilliant song "Northern Sky":
Would you love me for my money
Would you love me for my head
Would you love me through the winter
Will you love me till I'm dead
Oh, if you would and you could
Come blow your horn on high
That fuzz guitar in nothing is forever is almost march like but then fits in when the drums kick in...
BEST ALBUM 2024 !!!
Good to see and nothing is forever hitting someone just as much as it hit me lol, went through a break up a week ago and this song cuts deep
I’m sorry for your heart, homie. That sucks hard.
@walterooski ah ya but this album definitely helped
A masterpiece indeed!
Watching me fall is longer
Watching Me Fall was over 11 minutes
That's an epic song!
…and I must say I love this new album…after this long time
The last time I cried was when David died. Love you Robert
And Nothing Is Forever, 🥲
You were so honest. Great album btw🥲
Re the U2 comparison to Warsong: maybe Bullet The Blue Sky combined with the fuzzy guitar of Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
You looked like you were gearing up for an ugly cry on "I Never Can Say Good-Bye". My Mom is terminally ill and the end is near, so I feel ya.
Nice review and emotion to it. I can relate. Btw are you of Polish origin?
I’m from the USA is really the only thing I know for sure. With that said, it’s never been mentioned that I have any type of Polish origins. I’d actually love to do blood test and figure that out though.
@@walterooski The 'ski' ending in your name made me think you might have some polish ancestors. Greetings from Poland by the way :)
❤
WARSONG ..is the best song on the album eith ENDSONG a close 2nd
All I Ever Am is very New Order-ish.
Nothing is forever was about roberts dad dying
Watching Me Fall - From Bloodflowers in over 11 minutes long.
i love the review.........but you stop too much here..........got to 36 minuts.......i love this album............without every 5 seconds a break
Is your twitch name the same as this? I wanna follow you on twitch
Yep! The link is also in my video description:)
It's kinda fucked up that terrible things have to happen to the band members to embrace their final phase. I feel like this is it, at their age they reach the peak again, it happens so rarely.
I cannot see the next album/albums beating this.
Cheers
Fantastic 😂
A fitting end to the trilogy ,Pornography, Disintegration, Bloodflowers.....Songs of a lost world.....//troutbumandsam
I think his brother died of cancer. That is the something wicked.
…lyrically, this is just investiere, especially Alone and Endsong
VANITY: YOU JUST RAISED A GLASS TO YOUR OWN VANITY!
Americans..they can't stop talking !!! They can't !!!!
You’re watching a review, if you want no one talking then just listen to the album.
Very disappointing for me. Nothing in this album has registering me one iota.
A forest live in 1992 was 16 min lol
My friend complained he had to go to toilet during that live performance. I was so annoyed. He had to wait - lol. One of the most epic performances ever... and he had to go to the toilet.
Best since Disintegration? No. Best since Bloodflowers? Yes. 8/10. It's not perfect, it's not a masterpiece. It's solid.
