Phish - Harry Hood from A Live One Reaction
Guyute is one of my all time favorite Phish songs. The song composition takes so many twists and turns.
Need to watch an anotatemy of a phish jam
In the future, please review the live show Live In Utica aka Guyutica
The one track from this album that's held up for me all these years is Roggae. On the other hand, I've never been able to listen to Birds of a Feather without thinking of Crosseyed and Painless
@walterooski there is an Arpeggio Version of Water in the Sky and its just BLISS. I highly recommend. 7/10/99 Camden, NY. SO GOOD Walter, i cried lol
the guyute most people cant get pass the begin but its like most things you have to scrap the shit of your shoes to get to the good stuff ...like the travel to the show
the mustard in Meat is in that pause
Ghost the tune is probably THE best song to show the evolution of the band. There's a bit of a Holy Trinity of Ghosts, and they all sound SO much different from each other: Denver 97 (cowfunk) Prague 98 (guitar shred) Radio City Music Hall 2000 (dark and brooding) It's...probably a bit excessive to review three versions of one song...especially when you're talking about an hour of music. But, still, it's worth listening to each in your own, to hear just how different a song can sound.
This is reductive. There is no “holy trinity”; Ghost always jams hard and there are dozens of fantastic versions that are as good and better than the ones you listed.
it's not an experience if they can't bring someone along - Tom Marshall is very introverted. As an inside member of the band as the lyricist, he toured with them often. But he wandered around the parking lots, taking in the huge scene circus that followed the band around and he was just bewildered. i think that's what he was writing about. it's kinda funny that the band just puts it to an upbeat bop and runs with it.
We need some POND reactions!
Phish - Ghost - 7/6/98 - Prague, Cze this one wails
loops be bouncing around my brain
Those high pitched loops are created by Trey rolling on the volume knob on his guitar as he changes the pitch with his Digitech Whammy 2 (the Whammy can go up or down 2 octaves), which then feeds into his Ibanez DM2000 rack delay unit. The delay unit is always set at 1023ms, and has a hold function that will loop that 1023ms.
Nice! I figured Osees would be a band you'd dig! Also, a minor correction: this album actually only features ONE drummer, Nick Murray. This actually is the only Oh Sees studio album that he's featured on. But yeah, his performance is insane here, he sounds like 3 drummers at times! And if you're thirsting for some more Osees, you might like the album Protean Threat. It combines some interesting sounds like Pysch-punk and some krautrock in the vein of Can. (I'm sure people will push you to listen to Orc, which is great, but this one gets overlooked sometimes cause it was dropped during the 2020 lockdown.)
LET'S GO!!
Among my least favorite Phish albums. It makes me depressed. Mind you, I was going through personal problems at the time of its release, so I might have a negative bias. I need to listen to it with "fresh old ears."
I've been waiting on you to do this album
I like these no audience vids from time to time. Hope all is well 'rooski. Hang in there.
Thank you kind sir what a surprise!
Let’s goooo!
That high pitched loop in Ghost is known as the Funk Siren. Trey abused the shit out of it in ‘97. 😁
I fkn love the funk siren
@@DrgnhrtstrngI loved it in person, but when listening to shows it can be a bit much sometimes. That being said, hell to the yeah for the funk siren.
@@randomperson-dy6kj Lol I get that, and it was definitely over used for a while. Its just so emblematic of an incredible period for the band, which makes it special.
Consider the Birds of a Feather
this cd help create halloween costumes for there halloween show you will like that...esp when they covered talking heads
Youve entered the funk era! They went super hard into funk after playing the Talking Heads' "Remain in Light" for Halloween 1996. It really inspired Trey to take a step back and see what the rest of the band could do, and focus more on groove and feel. 1997-1998 are often considered the best years of Phish, and the long funk jams are a big part of it. Btw, you HAVE to hear a live version of Ghost. Absolutely incredible live song. Id recommend Prague 1998 personally, which has actual video on youtube even. You also mentioned Dark Phish... The absolute king of Dark Phish is David Bowie from 12/29/94 in Providence. Its diabolical
When you gonna do gamehendge?
With this album they took the improvisational approach to jamming and rather took the improvisational approach to making an album. With the exception of coyote and maybe another every single song on this came from a 2 to 3-day jam session. As they found nuggets of goodness through the jams they would pick certain parts and then flip through Tom Marshall's lyrics and there it is.
back to back uploads?? surely this means a Duck Stab by The Residents reaction is soon
In the 60s, music critics dissed Miles Davis, questioning him what direction he'd take, as popular music was becoming electric rock n roll. Miles responded by announcing that he'd put together the greatest rock n roll band the world had ever seen. In short, Miles harnessed young musicians "that could play" and called it "Bitches Brew." Out of that super group, 4 separate super groups formed, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return To Forever, Weather Report and The Head Hunters featuring Herbie Hancock. Each one of these groups had a number of founding members who came out of Miles Davis's Bitches Brew. These were the musicians Miles mentored, who redefined "fusion." Works worth blind buying: Romantic Warrior (Return to forever); I sing the body electric (Weather Report); Herbie Hancock Head Hunters; Birds of fire Mahavishnu Orchestra. Stay woke.
DUDE! This upload made my evening. I love this album and its noisy weird psych goodness
We neeeeeeed some swans. To be kind will melt you
You’ll have to hit Ty Segall next
I've been waiting for this! This is one of my favorite albums of all time from one of my favorite bands of all time
Awesome reaction vid as usual, my personal favorite albums are smote reverser and protean threat, but if I were to make a recommendation, I’d say to dive into their live stuff. All the levitation sets as well as live at Big Sur on Spotify are incredible, and so are the KEXP shows on UA-cam
This was the last single drummer album too btw okay I'll stop posting now
Pretty sure his fuzz tone back then was from an old BeeBaa but I'm not sure if he still uses it.
If you're a DnD player, Withered Hand is about the Hand of Vecna.
Haha damn dude you just made me fall in love with my favorite band all over again
Absolute unrated gem, Bonny is probably my favorite PS song .... " Save your speeches, flowers are for funerals " .
These guys are super underrated. BTW, check out Duck Stab by The Residents
I'd recommend doing ORC next, then jist go chronologically from there. It gets even weirder & better.
It sure does turn me on
I must say, first and foremost, that I think German is a fantastic language-with its myriad grammatical pitfalls and quirky intricacies, and a vocabulary so rich it would make even a Danish fisherman from the West Coast turn pale. Herbert Grönemeyer delivers his lyrics with a unique blend of military-like commands and emotionally charged torment, making for a truly stunning performance. It's a remarkable song, presented by one of Germany’s most impressive artists and analyzed by someone with a heart in the right place, unafraid to show genuine emotion. I bow down in respect.
The Great Divide was my gateway to Phish, just enough Greatful Dead vibes to create some familiarity. My brother had tickets to a show and handed me A Live One and said get ready to have your mind blown, the rest is history.
