NOW I need to get busy choosing this year's seeds!
Thank you! February is a great month of gardening expetation.
Yesssss my fave gardener is BACKK I can’t tell if the little moving pictures during the story telling part of your video are actually moving cutouts in real life (because the transitions between each scene were smoooooth) or is it animated online
Thanks. Glad to be back. The cutouts were animated digitally
You're back!!! Super LOVE your vlogs😍 it's been raining here in Cali, but I have a front flower bed that I'm itching to plant in. Just have to wait for the weather to be a little better. But you are true inspiration, I really appreciate it! ! Love the alien melon🍃🌱🍃
Thank you! Hopefully the weather gets better soon
Every time you post a new video, I grow. I look so forward to your incredibly worthwhile content. Thank you.
Thanks
This is PBS award winning type of content.
Thank you for this! Your videos always put a smile on my face! And this one was just masterfully done!
Thank you. I really appreciate it
Losing had never been so magnificent ! And when I say 'lose' I just mean that the kiwano hasn't grown to full maturity. Siloe... you did it again. It's a beautiful video with form and substance beautifully intertwined. Thanks and greetings from France
As the Brazilian proverb says: he who doesn’t have a dog, hunts with a cat. ;-)
I just ordered the same seeds in Jan. & now I'm even more excited to grow them. The way you couple gardening with animation & interesting life reflections is truly a talent. The video could be subtitled "Melons & Melanin". 😊👍🏽
That is a great title: Of melons and melanin. Hope you get your to fruit bountifully
ahaahaha! melons & melanin!!!!!
My husband radomly came home from the store with a kiwano today (for the first time, we don't really do exotic fruit in Finland 😛) and I just shouted "Siloe hasn't uploaded anything in like forever and he just put up this amazing video about those!" Probably scared the living daylights out of him but it was such a crazy coincidence! 😂 And then I had to watch your video again because this is just fabulous and so touching ❤
That is awesome. Hope they tasted interesting.
Your videos are always worth to wait for them, no matter how long. You deserve so much more attention, greetings from Germany.
I appreciate the attention you have given it.
Great to see and listen to that most interesting Video.Siloé
Great to see you here Patrick. It is always nice to read your comments.
Why has someone not offered you a television deal?! Your videos are a visual feast. Full of magic and whimsy while imparting facts. I appreciate all the planning, patience and preparation you put into each one. I came across your channel a few days ago and have been watching several each evening after working all day in my own garden. Great job! You are a treasure! Karen
Thanks Karen, I appreciate that. I’m glad you have enjoyed the videos. I suppose TV is just not what it used to be anymore. More and more I see TV personalities having to migrate to UA-cam. It is just that UA-cam still is the most effective way of directly communicating to people.
I will never unsubscribe your content! How exciting to see a new video notification from "suburban homestead" :D Thank you, once again, for amazing content !!!
I may not post too often, but I hope to only post meaningful content.
@@suburbanhomestead you nailed it! I really appreciate the quality of this video, and your outlooks. It's rare to find people who can connect as many elements in their outlooks and opinions. Your sense of history, nature, and our connections with "life" in general will always interest and inspire me as a viewer. I will always wonder how you came about this person that you appear to be...
I left this video feeling intellectually fulfilled with a sharpened sense of connection... how often can that be said? Truly, thank you
That was a truly inspiring comment for me! Thanks for the kind words.
I just tried the Kiwano today, and in trying to search for tips on growing it from the seed, stumbled across your video. This is one of the best videos I've seen on UA-cam, so informative, your decor and home is so wonderfully rustic, and it really touches the heart. Love the message about how we are all one human race and race is more sociological than genetic.
I’m glad you liked it
People like you are a breath of fresh air in this world.
I appreciate that.
Thank you for sowing some light and heat in an otherwise freezing winter!
I hope we can get to spring soon.

Thank you. I’m glad you appreciate the effort put into this
Fantastic video! Thank you for a great history lesson about Brazil.
Thank you. I hope it captured your attention.
Great video, Siloé!
And there are much more to be analysed, considering DNA. The portuguese and spanish people themselves also have a porcentage of North African DNA, even before the slavery period, due to moorish invasion in Iberic Peninsula that lasted from 711 ad to 1492 ad (omiad caliphate and Al-Andalus). That period is much longer than the colonization of the americas. In the end, we are all brothers and sisters.
That is very true.
true
Loved the video! The quality was excellent as always, and really amazing information. I wanna know more!
Thanks Jeff! I appreciate it.
Great video. Glad you're back.
Glad to have you watching
I was so moved by this video which is not only visually stunning but extremely thought provoking and poignant. You are such an amazing artist, teacher and storyteller.
I was born in Guyana, and this really got to me because of our country’s proximity to Brazil. There were whispers of Portuguese heritage in our family, but it was not something that was openly talked about. My grandfather looked like a Portuguese man, while his brothers and sisters did not. There were rumors of my great grandmother’s affair with a prominent Portuguese businessman. Yet my grandfather never acknowledged these whispers and did not claim to be anything other than black. This story has taken me down an emotional rabbit hole has made me want to learn more about my mother’s roots. Thanks Siloe, as usual your videos are so much more than just how-to’s.
Thanks for the upload, the melon brought back memories, In my country we call it magaka (wild cucumber) it's mostly planted between the maize and pumpkins. Thanks again
It’s great to hear that! Thanks
Bravo Siloe! I'm glad you're back.
Thanks. Glad to be back
The quality of your cinematography and information contained in this video are beyond normal. Thank you for making this video and other videos. You’re great artist.
I have seen those melons in a few ethnic markets in the past. Next time I'll have to try one out And save the seeds
I’ll also have to try one
New video! Yes!! Will watch it later after my chores are done. Thank you for blessing us!
Hope you enjoy this one
Love your videos! It's especially important to remind ourselves of how colonialism has corrupted the world and is still impacting it to this day. I don't see many people speak about such issues, so I was pleasantly surprised when you started talking about it in the video. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! There is much that we still need to learn (and unlearn) as humanity to truly treat each others as the siblings we really are.

I Love your videos. I love your peaceful, educational, relaxing and inspiring videos. I homeschool my little one and today we joyfully enjoyed your videos. Thank You.

You my friend are an artist in all things. Blessings. :-)
Thanks
Your videos are getting more enchanting as time goes by. Thank you for adding a humanistic element to gardening.🖤
Glad you liked this one. I needed to talk about more than tomato and kale in times like these.
What a brilliant production! Siloe, I am a South African. I too have mixed blood.
Beautiful production. I would love to be able to interview you for Wild Roots podcast sometime.
We'll have to try that. Send me an email to seedofchoice@gmail.com
I'm watching this video for the 2nd time and must give you Kudos for tying in the history of the slave trade in Brazil with the seed education of the African melon. You must be a professor. You do an amazing job educating people and you're using your platform wisely. Thank you my brother.
I started watching for the gardening how ever having a history degree, l was twice blessed. As a seeker of wisdom and truth, I am grateful. I only recently discovered you. Please continue.
Beautiful. Thank you so much.
You are welcome
Appreciate the honest take at history and not the revisionists view we hear most of the time. Great watch. The fruit was fun and intriguing to watch as well.
Amazing. Thanks for the education.
You're back! Yessssss!!!
wow Siloe, your videos are always phenomenal but this one was even more impressive. loved it as i do all of them. Thank you for sharing your personal background as well. this was so extremely well done. i LOVE when i see your vids pop up in my feed....ps, what an AMAZING armchair you have 2:37. it's gorgeous!
I’m elated to hear that. Thanks. I got that awesome Victorian chair for 15 dollars. I just had to fix one of the broken arms
@@suburbanhomestead i know you are busy & if i remember correctly, you said in a previous video you have a full time day job aside from this channel so I don't want to add more to your plate......but... i was wondering if you would consider doing a "quick" video on, tips for planning out your gardening season (even a top 3)? I am new to gardening & last year i feel like i didn't get much out of my yard/gardens because i didn't have a game plan & didn't really think about the time things need to grow & plant accordingly. Anyone can tell from your videos they cannot be 'quick' to put together as you put so much thought, care & attention into them...however would you consider just a sit down & talk to the camera about this topic? (perhaps in that chair ;) ). Thank you again for your videos. such a pleasure to watch them....i wonder how bratty Mr. Groundhog will be this year ;)
Deer & Raven.... if you punch his picture at the start of the video it will show you all his videos...... you don't have to wait for his videos to pop up.
You have a global view on things and you make the unique and deep connections that we need to undersand better the world and ourselves. You are gifted. Thank you for sharing yourself with the world.
I really appreciate the effort you put into your videos. I love the history and culture you provide as well as the animation and illustrations you provid.
Such a good video!!! Can't wait till the next one!
I’ve missed your work, I don’t know where I disappeared off to. Your story telling builds an emotional connection I’ve not seen any gardener UA-camr do.
I appreciate all of the thought and hard work you put into this video. Bravo!
Thanks Eric for your continued support
This is great, thank you. You are such an insperation!
Thank you...your videos take gardening to the spiritual level it deserves...just lovely!
Your production is doing so well. Please keep making. Thank you.
Thank you
I subscribed because of this video. Excellent work!
Why does this not have millions of views? Thank you algorithm for introducing me to Siloe and welcome to all the other algorithm newbies.
I'm glad you have liked it. I would love to be able to devote time to make more in-depth, well researched videos like this one. Unfortunately the algorithm seems to prefer other types of things like constant uploads and attention grabbing titles. It is a bit discouraging to be honest, since I can't do more time-consuming videos without funding from a greater viewership.
suburban homestead do you have Patreon? I will subscribe!
This is like opening a plain cardboard box at Christmas only to find a jewel encrusted treasure trove of history and art ( love the theatre within the wooden box)....and philosophy and sociology and science! You are a Master educator! Bravo!! I want to journey with you through theses videos as long as you make them. MOST ORIGINAL CHANNEL ON YOU TUBE
Reading this means a lot to me. Thank you for taking time to share your response. I hope you like the videos to come. Next year I’m thinking of making some more in-depth videos in this style.

Siloe, this is a truly wonderful video. Thank you for sharing your story! You really are one the best creators here on UA-cam.
I am waiting on my DNA results now. I can't wait to see my genetic ancestry, as I have nearly no idea what it is...
Thanks Enoch for the great compliment.
Oh my word, Siloé! What an absolutely beautiful video! Stellar. Thank you for this.
Thank you Bernard. I’m glad you liked it
Dear Siloé Oliveira,
I feel an immense blessing and privilege that I stumbled upon your wondrously awe-inspiring channel that brings much hope and great lessons on life in the cosmic web of gardening right at the footsteps at home. At the very end, home is earth and the only planet that we know of in the closest proximity that harbors life and it is our inherit duty to take care of the natural world and find harmony within to fill the outer with fabulous fragrances of flowers that later bear delicious, exquisite fruits. Gratitude for your magnificent being of light and of unconditional love. May the force of the divine love be with you and those dear to your heart always.
A great post. Thank you.
YOu are welcome

Wow. Thanks for this episode.
Thank you Jonita for watching.
I love love love your videos!! Thank you so much!
What outstanding, lovely work! Bravo
Thank you
Wow, this episode was really informative, educational and touched on a lot of topics. I am an avid amateur gardener always trying new heirlooms and trying to grow as many interesting plants as possible. Though I don't have much optimism for it this year, my super exotic I want to grow is Naranjilla, from the Andes. Even if I don't get to pick anything, just the growing experience is fun and may help me better prepare for the next year. Ive had the Kiwano Melon on one occasion myself, but after learning so much I wouldn't mind trying it again after my newfound appreciation for the fruit. Keep up the gardening, Siloe.
Thanks friend. I’ll have to look into the naranjilla
Wonderful!
Many thanks!
