It’s actually one of my favourite Christmas specials 😭 This and The Runaway Bride are always so nostalgic and easy to jump into. No need to catch up on the plot beforehand. It’s fun and doesn’t take itself too seriously.

As many issues as the episode has, I still think it's quite good. The incredible score and Tennant's performance I think do a good job of carrying the episode. Despite its low points, I think the highs from this episode are quite memorable and give a charm to the episode that covers for its flaws. In particular, that scene where the angels carry Tennant to the main deck really stands out to me and the quick changes of emotions that go on in the scene that follows makes for a really entertaining sequence. Another thing that I like is that we find out in the Stolen Earth that Mr. Copper spent his money well as the subwave network was made possible by the Mr. Copper foundation (Also, I just realized that Mr. Copper's quote about being a monster connects well to Harriet Jones' "death" as she was someone the Doctor opposed and yet she sacrificed herself because she believed in him. Her death also comes full circle since Tennant is deeply upset to find out about her sacrifice despite deeply opposing her views early on). Overall, I'd say that this episode carries with it a charm that makes it so much more watchable than most, if not all, of Jodie Whittaker's episodes (still haven't seen Power of the Doctor yet so that might be the saving grace of her run, but my point still stands).

Ahhh you know what, the concept behind this episode was perfect. The problem lies in the fact they needed this to be a family show, and therefore they needed to soften the tragedy of the Titanic. Every death is a little bit silly, the sets look cheap, the characters are one dimensional, the special effects are cheesy. A real dark and scary episode where you could feel the fear of the characters would have made for such a great show.

You don’t “need” a licence to know how to operate a forklift any more than a go-kart, but to legally operate one in any formal sense it’s the law. So I imagine legally they’d never let an actor (especially not a celebrity guest) operate any machinery that they don’t have a licence for, even if she AND the character would probably be able to figure it out

Man, back when they used to show Doctor Who in Greece, they would broadcast this episode any time they could and on any holidays. I must have seen it 10 times and damn, I love it so much. I love the story, the characters, the silliness (I've really missed memorable secondary characters in Who), the cheesy overblown stuff, really everything. I wouldn't argue it's an "objectively" quality Doctor Who story, but I doubt RTD was going in that direction in the first place. He wanted an over the top spectacle for Christmas viewing, with the Doctor kissing Kylie Minogue as a space waitress, Titanic as a giant spaceship, a red dude with spikes and a funny voice, moustache-twirling villains and the queen in slippers thanking the Doctor. And damn it, did he succeed. I'm sure people watching it back then, must have had one hell of a time. We need more of this awesome over the top drama in Doctor Who with no heavy lore elements from time to time, especially in the last decade or so.

As much as with hindsight this episode is corny, has dodgy CGI and a few obvious plot holes, that to me is what Dr who Christmas specials are meant to be. Tone down the seriousness, up the cheesy comedy, sit and watch with the family on Christmas day.
In my head it's one of my favourite doctor who episodes, though I'm sure if I rewatch it these days it may well lose that title. Plus shout-out for its soundtrack, voyage of the damned suite is one of the best officially released Dr who tracks, shame they didn't release full suites for other episodes like silence in the library or waters of mars.

A neat detail I did like from this episode though is that The TARDIS landed in Cardiff. I know it's where Doctor Who is primarily produced and filmed but I just geek out that she went to the main centre of Rift Energy to recharge herself while The Doctor does his "flim-flam" (as Wilf would put it) on The Titanic.
It would've been quite funny though if she landed directly on that paving slab above the Torchwood Hub. 🤣

It's nothing like that story. This was just like The Posedon Adventure, a disaster movie. Robots of Death was about an insane guy who thought humans were oppressing their robot slaves, so he was trying to liberate them.
Voyage has more in common with the Lady Cassandra episode of Series 1, as both she and Max simply wanted to make money.
The only thing Robots of Death really has in common with Voyage are the robot designs (which was intentional, as Davies loved their look). If they had used a different design for the Angels, you wouldn't be making that comparison.
