    I once bought M&M's Mini Madness for Game Boy Color for £3 at a game shop a short bus ride from where I live. It didn't work, so I tried to return it to the shop where I bought it a few days later. The clerk told me "You're too late" but after a little negotiation accepted the return but instead of asking me if I wanted to change for a different game, just handed me the copy of Gremlins 2 they had in stock. I popped it into my Game Boy Color on the spot and found it didn't work. I proved to them that that was the case, and proved my system wasn't the problem by showing them that I could run my Wario Land 2 cart on it just fine. They let me have my £3 back in the end and I went to another shop just nearby and bought Tetris Plus for £4!

    quite frankly i think gamestop has helped prove that smaller local game shops are better and more reliable than big corporations. im not huge on gaming but when i want to buy something i dont go to walmart or gamestop...plenty of local small shops to go to that have much better service and knowledge.

    I just recently bought Final Fantasy on the NES from GameStop. The picture of the cart looked pristine online, but the copy that got sent to my house had a GIANT sticker over the label. Luckily with some elbow grease and a little goo gone I was able to remove it. I'll be sticking to flea markets and craigslist for my retro games from now on.

    I have a worse horror story. I live in the suburbs a few miles east of Philly. I had to return 3 ps2 systems back when they first were available refurbished. The first two (from 2 different stores) didn't play certain formats, the third had a busted AV port! MANGLED by a screwdriver or something and DID NOT even accept a cable!
    I then returned it to a THIRD store and told the manager my story, and next to him was the regional manager who became furious. He made them pull out their entire stock of PS2s and test them with a PS1, PS2, and DVD disc right there. Four systems in a row failed at least one format. He was not happy.
    I let him know which stores I bought the systems from, and when I went back to the other 2 stores a few months later, their managers were no longer working there...
    Mysteriously, a few weeks later they CHANGED THEIR POLICY and made it so you could only exchange a used system TWICE. At that point, you could only trade in for credit. As you can imagine, they started selling a lot more GameCubes.

    • @DeAthWaGer
      @DeAthWaGer 9 років тому

      I forgot to mention when I bought the second PS2, I walked into the store to see the manager SHAKING A CAN OF DUSTER AND THEN SPRAYING IT INTO A PS2! I SAW THE SPRAY GOING RIGHT INTO THE PORTS AND RUINING IT!

    Game Stop has been doing shady shit like this for years, I once bought a GameBoy player from them for $10 when no one really wanted GameCube stuff, they had the boot disc behind the counter, so they opened the bag put the disc in the case for me, all the time knowing the boot disc was scratched, and cracked, yes I should have checked before I left the store, but I was in a hurry as I had gotten a phone call from work to come in on my day off. so after I had gotten home from work that night I checked it out thinking yeah I have a 2nd player for cheap NOT!! I tried to take it back a couple of days later, and they would not take it back so I threw the broken disc on the counter in anger, and walked out. I've not been back to a GameStop since then, and won't go back again. FUCK GAME STOP!!!!

    This is hilarious! I bought a Genesis at a local game shop and it had a broken 2nd controller port (needed reflowing?) and they had their void-returning sticker over the sega cd port also. I broke the seal showing my cousin the port and the guy at the shop had to call someone to confirm my claim. So it's not just the big corporations that are hiring people to do a job they no nothing about, it's an epidemic that has spread to our smaller communities as well

    As bad as Ebay is getting, at least you have seller ratings to match with confidence in the listing, as well as the photos provided. With Game stop, this is analogous to buying something on Ebay, from a seller with poor or no ratings and a stock photo. You just don't do it. It makes no sense!

      +Roger Sherman I have to call BS on your situation. Unless you have a story that completely demonizes Gamestop, it's not true and never happened.
      But seriously, I agree with you that situations such as this one are the exception rather than the norm. Gamestop is a gigantic company and screw-ups are more likely to happen compared to smaller businesses (Especially when dealing with Retro games, as they require more attention than current generation games).
      What it really boils down to is the percentage of failures overall and whether or not there are safeguards in place to protect the consumer should such a situation arise.

    It's true. I bought the FAKE Chrono Trigger in July of this year and returned it to my local Gamestop with my fingers crossed hoping they would take it back without thinking I was the one scamming them with it. I explained the issues with the label being a cheaply printed duplicate that wasn't even centered precisely and that when I tested it, it was a frickin 0.50 cent Madden game and not the actual $100 Chrono Trigger I ordered. I was adamant that they understood it was fake and that I didn't want someone else to be cheated if they simply shipped it back to the warehouse. The regular sales associate was very cool and documented everything I said. Apparently upper management did not take his notations seriously and simply put the game back out to be RESOLD and it was! It's likely this will happen with other HIGH dollar rare titles as well.

    GameStop retro prices are really no better than eBay prices. If you have to buy online why the hell wouldn't you buy on eBay or one of the other game auction sites where the condition is described in detail and you can view ACTUAL pics of the item? Stupid is as stupid does. If you are going to gamble your money on the condition of a game/console then don't bitch if it doesn't meet your expectations.

Went into one of Gs store with some Genesis games asked the young man behind the counter if they took Genesis games he looked at me like i was crazy and i walked out. Usually didn't have a good experience in their stores so i haven't been back. This doesn't surprise me. Game Stop has no business selling retro games!

  • @RETROGameGuide80

    I ordered Lunar: Silver Story Complete for the PS1 from Gamestop.com because the price was decent a few weeks ago. When I received it, I opened the box and found a loose disc 2 in a paper sleeve and that's about it. They sent it in a large box and put bubble wrap around the entire box. I'll give them that it was packed well. But what the fuck? Disc 2 and nothing else. No case. No artwork.
    Needless to say I was pretty pissed. I called their help line and the customer service person told me that it was up to the manager's discretion whether or not they would take it back in a store and refund my money. Otherwise, I would have to mail it back and wait. Luckily, the manager on duty that day was totally reasonable and refunded my money on the spot. I would caution anyone who is ordering disc games on the website to maybe not. I've ordered cartridges, and for the most part, they seem to be in good shape and as advertised. But all bets are off when you order a PS1 or Dreamcast game. Suspiciously, I've noticed they have started listing when the game only includes the disc and not the case or artwork in the last two weeks. Perhaps, they actually listened to my feedback when I called them.

    How many millions of positive transactions does GameStop have in a year? Picking out a few problem orders here and there as a representation of the whole company, is stupid. Anyone in business is going to have a level of human error especially at the high volume they do. These issues I hear about probably wouldn't make up .01 percent of their total positive sales. No, I don't work for GameStop and don't personally care about their PR but these broad attacks are baseless. Bad employees slack off and screw up. For every 500 pizzas a shop makes there is going to be 1 with burnt crust. It's life. When they ship out large amounts of flawed product, I'll say ok. Until then, a few bad orders doesn't condemn the whole place.

      +inverse Manhattan lol holy shit someone's mad. Gamestop claiming they have a "highly regulated checking system in place" is just that. Highly regulated. Not perfect. Nothing is perfect when human contact is involved. Lying? How if like I said they never stated to be perfect. That's like Best Buy advertising that they Price Match guaranteed but did you know they don't price match GameStop? I found this out last month looking for Dying Light on sale. So should EVERYONE now boycott Best Buy for their practices of lying?
      To your claim of even a FEW errors in GameStops inspections to condemn the ENTIRE integrity of their business plan means that NO COMPANY can have any margins of error. Meaning Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo shouldn't be making consoles due to the below 3% defective rate of their consoles, regardless of warranty. That means like 80% of game developers shouldn't develop games since majority of them release broken games at launch.
      It's ok to argue because of perspectives. If he never had a problem with GameStop's products or services, then of course he has nothing but nice things to say about the company. If someone does have something negative to say, like example yourself, of course they will either complain about the company or attack those who haven't had an issue. So that's my counter argument to you sir.

    • @moriellymoproblems7842
      @moriellymoproblems7842 8 років тому

      J Lopez Best Buy most definitely has conditions on their price matching policy. It was your mistake to assume that they would price-match GameStop.
      As for you trying to split hairs over semantics, if GameStop claims they have a highly regulated checking system, but the results show it's not even lowly-regulated, then it's a false claim on their part.

    • @Bosskeypodcast
      @Bosskeypodcast 8 років тому

      +MoRiellyMoProblems ok here's a link to Best Buy's Price match guarantee in the very first line. " At the time of sale, we price match all local retail competitors (including their online prices)".
      - www.bestbuy.com/site/help-topics/price-match-guarantee/pcmcat297300050000.c?id=pcmcat297300050000
      So is Best Buy lying when they clearly stte ALL local retailers? And if you even go down to what is defined as "local". It states within 25 miles which there's like 5 GameStops near my local Bes Buy.
      Getting even deeper into semantics, what results are you talking about that claim the entire integrity of GameStop's products? Would your opinion change if I said I've ordered 3 retro games from GameStop and they were all perfectly playable? No because I'm guessing you won't take it as the entirety of their practices but it's ok to go to a comment section that is primed to tell the negative experiences about GameStop. They are not perfect but I, like millions of other customers that come back to GameStop, have not experienced anything negative.

    A long time ago when I was stupid enough to shop at gamestop, I went in to buy a copy of Saints Row 1. I went to the counter and told the person which happen to be the manager there, can I get a brand new copy of Saints row, they said sure. She went to the display isle, grabbed the jewel case, went to the back got a the saints row game, put the disc in the jewel case all done in front of me and said that would be $40.00 please (this was when saints row was 2 years old from release). I was about to pay but then I got mad because I remembered on day I tried to sell gamestop a factory sealed game and they wanted to give me 7 dollars while it was being sold for 50. So I said no I said new, she said it is new. I was tempted to tell her that story but I didn't, I told here I want a brand new factory sealed copy. She then said well... we can shrink wrap it for you. I was in awe, like wow are you fucking kidding me. I said no thanks and left that was the last time I tried to buy anything from gamestop.

    Just seems like competitors obviously would talk about this. Bug corps make mistakes, they get corrected, and move on. Thousands of units go thru, there will be mistakes. I'm sure Luna isn't perfect, this is clearly a laughing video for Gamestop

    Gamestop has a good return policy. I understand they have people working there that don't understand retro video games but over time people will get better at their job. Less mistakes will happen over time. Gamestop can only hire who applies for the positions. They probably just use warehouse workers they already employee.

    GameStop sucks for the most part, but they are personally invested in preserving physical copies of games. If ANYONE should want GameStop to never go away, it would be shelf collectors like Pat and Ian. Gamestop going away would pretty much signal the end of physical games on consoles dontcha think? Keep that digital only shit on PC.

    Some guy bought used merchandise online and it came in worse condition than he was promised so he returned it with no hassle? Seems like a non issue.

    • @synical13
      @synical13 9 років тому +12

      +kniferaffe The issue is that evidence keeps pointing to Gamestop lying about testing and refurbishing. This kind of shit is expected on Craigslist, but not from a major corporation. Also, the stupidity of putting the warranty sticker over the expansion port. The NES has a useless expansion port, but not the Genesis. I guess everyone with a Sega CD will just have to not use it or void the warranty.
      It all just shows that Gamestop has no idea what they're doing and they don't care, because they can just fix all of their problems with a revolving-door return policy, putting the cost and effort onto the customer in the process. You should ALWAYS care about being taken advantage of, especially when it's obvious. When they don't care but don't even try to hide it anymore, it's extra insulting. Want another example? Konami.

    • @SeekerLancer
      @SeekerLancer 9 років тому +6

      +kniferaffe It's less about their return policy which I'm sure is fine and more about the fact that they're not providing the services they said they were.
      They've spoken about and even released a video talking about their extensive testing and refurbishing and then they go ahead and send games out with the wrong boards inside and consoles that are clearly broken so they're obviously not being honest with consumers about how they handle retro games.
      Seriously, if they just said, "we don't test used items," and relied on their return policy I wouldn't have a single issue with them, but that's not the case.

      +Christopher Blair It's true.

There's a chance you can get broken consoles from Amazon and eBay but coming from Gamestop they should known better to test it before shipping it.
