As someone who lived and still lives in Cronulla I wanted to give a first person recount of the events of the riots back when I was 10 years old (I also many years later did a study and essay on the riots at University). Basically what happened was there was a conflict at the beach between a lifeguard and a Lebanese background person but that turned into a story of a gang of Lebanese bashed a Lifeguard which was even reported by mainstream news which is insane. So then every white racist Australian wanted to 'take back the beaches' and organised a mass gathering which they called a 'protest' against Lebanese people who they reckon have been causing problems at the beaches and that was the last straw. That protest, obviously since it was race based, immediately turned into White people shouting racist shit about basically anyone who was from the Mediterranean or Middle Eastern part of the world (we have a term here for Greek/Turkish/Italian people called Wog which has been adopted by those people now). So anyone who looked any type of way started to get shouted at by this crowd of drunk White Aussie blokes with Australian flags and saying shit like 'fuck off lebo' or 'fuck off wog' and the classic 'go back to where you came from' despite a number of them being born in Australia and some of them weren't even from these countries (one of my mates was Polish and his brother looked Italian/Greek and copped shit at this time as a teenager). Mass texts were being sent out saying 'national beat up a Leb day is today'. One of my best mates in primary school was half Lebanese half Chinese and they were obviously terrified cause they were local small business owners so they closed shop and went home thinking they were going to get bashed. Shops started getting smashed and people started getting assaulted. The worst bit was there was a mass text sent out saying a gang of Lebanese were arriving on a train in half an hour so the mass crowd went to the train station and when there were only two people on board who looked Lebanese who were just on a day trip to the beach the crowd started to bash them which is when police got on board and started swinging for the fences with their batons (that's the dude who got PTSD from the event, he protected these two teenagers on the train). The retaliation was then Lebanese gangs meeting in other suburbs that night and police set up blockades to prevent people coming into Cronulla so upon being turned away the Lebanese gangs went to other suburbs like Maroubra which is home to a white surfer gang called the Bra Boys and cars were smashed and I know at least one person was stabbed. So then the next day it became a Bra boy and white Aussie retaliation thing with more riots and bashings and people getting stabbed. Every 30 minutes there was a helicopter flying over our house to go cover the news or whatever cause I'm a 10 minute walk from Cronulla beach where the riots were happening. Eventually it simmered out but there was tension between the Lebanese and White Australians for a good while after that cause it showed the true nature of the mass racism that did, and unfortunately still does (less so now), exist in Australia. It was all based on a false report and racial mis-profiling and angry drunk white bogans. People to this day still defend what happened here in Cronulla and are proud of that day, they literally tried to have a 10 year anniversary BBQ celebration and people attended to celebrate it but Police basically shut it down or at least prevented it from turning into anything else. I can say whenever someone asks where I live myself, and many friends of mine too, are embarrassed to say we're from Cronulla or 'The Shire' which is the local district due to the connotations it carries.
cronulla race riots were the thing that radicalised a lot of my white friends or at least it made them start to question things. seeing that level of violent racism shocked them out of the 'casual' xenophobia and racism that white australians excuse as normal. never been to an australia day party since then with the same level of flag-waving nationalism. all the excuses that ppl come up with about gang rapes and reciprocal aggression is fucking bullshit and we all know it's bullshit.
for the record, the needing a certain amount of men for a prayer thing is real. it happens to me all the time in NYC...i think its a hasidic jewish thing
49:13 I've ate camel meat imported from Australia, its basically beef but with almost no fat in the meat. It is considered to be much healthier and tastes good
Fun fact - the wild camels we have in Australia were from Afghanistan & they have actually helped repopulate the species which were becoming endangered in their natural habitat.
I got banned for saying this name in Hasans chat, but LonerBox did an amazing video on the Australian "we stopped the boats" thing. He criticised Hasan once while being a fan and now you cannot bring him up but he is legit one of the best socialist content creator.
I'm new to Hasan, and he doesn't seem like he likes to be proven wrong or critiqued in general. It's kind of off-putting to watch. Maybe it's a recurring joke I'm not getting.
Chatter's dad produced Skyhooks and those Sydney lads don't bat an eye? Ross Wilson was in Daddy Cool for fuck's sake. Shame on you. Shame, shame, shame...
Is Hasan uncomfortable with people commenting on how he eats or is he just annoyed at the unrelated comments streaming in? I noticed he banned someone for saying "chew your food". I hope he gets to the point where he can just eat in peace and not give a fuck what they say. x
This hasan fellows rhetorical style troubles me, he is very absolutist in his speech and thought, jumping to conclusions and making confident (but sadly mistaken) assertions. In short he is a eeactionary, just from a different end of the political spectrum than the usual case study. The reason this teoubles me is that this rhetoric can be very effective, but also makes a group very easy to radicalise based on false information.

I remember there was a travel advisory warning for tourists to not come bc of the danger.
This is too good to be a mere comment on UA-cam

@@chiaroscural Hahaha I'm passionate about the subject and how it shaped my growing up :)
Thx for the education, I'm a 40yr old Aussie and didn't know the full details.

I doubt you just got banned for saying lonerbox. You probably were annoying about it
Bro I watched lonerbox latest video thinking it would be good... what a f asset. Honestly u gotta be a CIA nerd to like his shit videos
@@shortking-vp9vv I don't know anyone who does like being critiqued or proven wrong by people they know, little own strangers online.
@@wayneerichsen Well, if we’re being pedantic here, it’s “let alone”, not “little own”.
So, when talking about ANZAC, hasan is referring to the fact that the hawke and keating governments treated it as afuck the crown day.
Someone needs to talk Hasan through the Witness K case
There is NO WAY Australia is a real place
What did Murat say

Sorry, when did that happen?
When he was right about the proposed cause of the Cronulla Riots being bullshit?
36:34 This was a bad take.
These rioters absolutely cited that gang rape as justification for their violence.
