Holy week in the PH is about pausing, observing of one's beliefs, being quiet, meditation, praying (if you are a believer) and yes anything commercial (aside from the necessities of course) is stopped. The heart of it all is the family.
Easter celebration here is more spiritual - as the culture dictates, Catholics flock as early as 2am to churches to witness the "salubong" or the meeting of Christ and Mary after resurrection. You can see videos of it and I think most churches still hold those festivities, aside from Easter mass. You did your best and I'm happy always to watch you and your family navigate our Pinoy lifestyle and culture. Salamat for enjoying our country. =)
Hello ! But if we start reading a King James or modern English King James Bible, and pray earnessly for the Holy Spirit guidance, we can understand personally directly, the will of God thru our Lord Jesus. And we dont have to just follow the "dictate" of our tradition or culture as youve said..but by personal Wisdom gifted to us by reading thru Holy Spirit, knowing Lord Jesus closer.
Easter Sunday was always about the resurrection of Jesus and we were forced to go to church and watch live re-enactments of it as I was growing up then after church we go home and finally get to eat meat after a whole week of just fish and veggies. It’s something very special that I wish my children would have experienced in California but it’s really not a thing here.. it’s an experience that stayed with me and will always be good food for the soul.
Hhhhhhh!!!…Rebecca is annoying to those bikes!.. ive get laugh!!😅😂😊 hhhhh …and look daddy Kevin is so fresh in this episode.. 😮😅 but yeah you can feel The solemnity of this season ..
It's alright. You don't have to get everything right in vlogging. Just try and enjoy yourselves. You don't need to do anything. I just hope that you guys have an alright time here in PH. Stay safe!
Yeah, i used to pass by that building during the pandemix as our company housed us in Diamond Residences along Salcedo. I have been seeing that Art Deco Building since the early 80's.. The best cakes and pastries are from BIZU and Mary Grace
I remember being an angel (with angle wings!) during Easter Sunday mass when I was 9 or 10 years old. Had to wake up very very early and we did a dance in front of the parishioners and throwing flower petals around.
its nice to learn the language....that way somehow your kids will understand and definitely they will have lots of friends there..when they go to school..
God bless your family wistl we're so proud of you being here 🇵🇭 Philippines. My whole family always waiting for your new blog. God bless god bless....... 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏
it is so touching.... your family as British to have thought , considered, and made it real to visit our country despite of it being portrayed as a Dangerous place to go to......my gratitude to the WILST family 👏🤩
For the Singaporean hainanese chicken, you mix the ginger, sweet soy and sweet chili, on the chicken. But you don’t mix the sauces in their small plates.
I remember walking several hours from home going to Grotto/church, which lasted for about eight hours. Some do it on foot and it is a yearly tradition done by many Filipinos during the holy week. People also get water there which they say could heal.
With all the chaos and the busy schedules we Filipinos have for the rest of the year, the Holy Week is the most relaxed holiday celebration in the country. Not christmas because its the most well celebrated holiday where people are all out in the street. While in Holy Week, we spend it with our family at home or in the province and in the churches of course. ❤ so welcome to the Philippines
Wistl family thanks for sharing this place for us I remember b for I'm always visiting my sister in Dasmaranas village Makati last 1993 and I'm always rounding this area and really miss this place Maraming salamat PO sa Pag share injoy watching here in Dubai UAE 🇦🇪 Maraming salamat PO 🇵🇭
you guys are very perceptible. figuring out that we don't vibe with the western commercialization.it's true, we're much more spiritual, except christmas anyway hehe but there are a lot of western culture still here. just go to more high end places, like bgc or alabang if you need to. but if you're about that simple life. continue on your journey! you'll find the joy here soon enough
Our Christian values is to be closer to our kids while young . Teach & guide them the way they should be & as much as possible no material things should be replaced with our presence towards them sooner they gonna leave us & start their own lives. Anyhow, I’m just bless that were middle income family back home and inhibited them from being materialistic which we can’t afford but focus instead to their education & im happy now what they had accomplished…so Rebecca you’re in the right tract … keep going.. the world is changing so fast human values becoming wild & weird ….we as parents can’t catch up on what is happening right now especially here in the west..so scary 😟 ..
Hi Wist Family I'm happy ur all stay longer here in my country Philippines.all kids adapt the taste of the food and a little bit of Philippine culture...Stay safe and enjoy lovely Wist Family.❤❤❤
Very well said. Celebrating our holy week is plainly for Jesus only... This is the best time to repent and give time to God aside from our family. Totally holistic renewal of body and soul. Starting by eating non meat foods, plainly fruits and vegetable. In observance of holy week, we keep silent. And prayers. 🙏 Thank you guys for good heart to our culture. It is the best experience you shared to your children. Mabuhay and welcome again to the Philippines.
@1:56 I love that building! I tend to pass by it whenever I'm feeling hopeless when I was a jobless 15 years ago. I'm now a UK nurse and does properties on the side and I just bought a condo in Salcedo.
I got my hot cross buns from Sourdough + Cafe on Maundy Thursday. I messaged the cafe in the morning and had it delivered to the condo in just under an hour. Great that you found the actual cafe. I love unplanned days, more unexpected. Your experience is organic and authentic.
You're intelligent, you experience stuff, notice the little things and get to articulate what you experience and tell us about the things you learned. Nice little family too 😊 Thanks for visiting the ph
Different would be an understatement. Like they don't do the easter egg hunt here like they do in the states but instead head to the province for holy week to see fam and go to the beach. I realize you liked your kids to do the things you did back home but if you guys intend to stay here long its best to get them acclimated to the way things are done here so the kids can enjoy whats available to them. I try to keep our kids as flexible as possible and they have embraced the new things here and gone away with what use to be in the states where we used to live.
Easter egg hunting is also done here in the Philippines. I remember painting eggs in different colors and designs and letting children engage in games and search for those hidden eggs.
@@cristinasumadchat605 Yes, but not like in the states where it's customary, every household does it, here it's just pockets here and there. Just like Halloween, same thing, as the Philippines start to more and more watch American culture they start copying them here too.
Love How You All Adjust In Every Foods That You Are Eating There…Can Tell Your Well Traveled Family Lovin the Asian Foods…Whether it’s Filipino,Chinese, Korean,Japanese Thai…etc…
Oh, we frequent that Mom and Tina's branch in Makati. We used to always celebrate our anniversaries (and monthsaries) there. They have a branch along C-5 in Pasig that you can order sugar-free cakes and cookies (my sister got me some when I was diagnosed as a Renal Diabetic) ( 7:48 ) hahaha, that reminded me of this YT interview I did that was always interrupted by motorbikes with loud exhausts
Wowwwwww thank you so much for appreciating our Filipino culture ,God bless Wistl family , Take care always 💝 I'm always looking forward to the next Vlog😂 watching from Adelaide,South Australia 😊

Glad that you had a great Easter celebration! A well spent day with the family and enjoying different experiences. Thanks for sharing your awesome escapade♥️ Those cupcakes looks delectable😋
By the way, guys, have you been to Binondo? It's the oldest Chinatown in the world. Food is very, very, cheap. But, the place is kind of sketchy. Tourists go there, surprisingly.

Empanada and ensaimada are typical Filipino snack food. I love both. Guys, you're residing at a high end area. Ensaimada is just Php 20 at regular bakeries. At Mary Grace, one ensaimada is over Php 100. Ugh. Goldilocks bread shop has okay prices. Try to look for Goldilocks. I hope there's one near you.
Bonne pause. Kev is more likely right. The fish ball dish usually has tofu or some other seafood. Poor Harry is last again. Probably because he often chooses different food. Nice to see your kids eating some veg. It's good to keep trying fermented or food with probiotics, like some yoghurts and kimchi. It will improve gut and overall health. When Becca talked about having cold food when vlogging, actors and film crew have said something similar. The food may look appetising on camera for TV or whatever, but in reality it has been sitting there for ages after many takes.
Try to visit Davao and go to sa Philippines Eagle Farm and go to Siargao Island in Surigao Del Norte the island adventure in Mindanao. GOD bless you always and to your family’s. Jesus love’s you all.🙏🏼🇵🇭

Only recently malls in manila hold easter egg events but cash in by asking patrons to spend to participate better if you just buy chocolate eggs and hide it around the house. Also most filipinos leave to go to beach on holy week but beware of traffic going out and in of the city
