Yuki did not have a 'howler'; in the first stint he managed to get up to P9 in a shitbox before being slowly thwarted out by the quicker cars he had surpassed, and even then he was still in an odds on points scoring position until he was pitted onto softs under the final safety car rather than staying out on fresh hards which lost him both track position and the better tyre for that final stint.
yuki was a beast at times today particularly on the race start and the restarts. i watched most of his race onboard and he hardly put a foot wrong other than a dubious (but ultimately harmless) defense on gasly. another good performance from him but unfortunately their car was completely exposed by this circuit, it was a miracle he was able to make any moves at all
If you watch Kevin Magnussen's Danish interviews it seems that he is at a point where he is done with F1, at least as a driver. He seems very content with the situation and almost optimistic about getting to spend more time with his family. In Denmark we would of course love to see him racing in 2026. But I think at most he will take a job that does not require him to travel as much. Like a development/test driver position. I also think he wants to race Le mans in the future. His dad being a very famous Le mans driver. It just seems the right time for Kevin to continue that legacy.
1:10:26 Max clarified himself a bit better on Dutch Viaplay on why he was so mad. He found George to be hypocritical for waving off the incident and stating that nothing much happened in front of the media. To then immediately run off to the stewards after the interviews to complain and push for a penalty. Max doesn't like how two-faced George is in those moments.
I think the reason Alonso was overlooked was because he was barely in the broadcast. There was so much chaos that if you weren’t looking for it, you might not notice the quality of his race.
Yeah, the only broadcast time he got was screaming at the engineer about how slow they are on the straights and have been for 2+ years. Then after that, he went to work finished in an excellent spot and they never bothered to look at them again after that. Lol
Max' issue with Russell is not the complaining. It is the behavior of George in front of the camera and the shift in personality when the camera is gone. Princess Snitch is the embodiment of lecherous treachery. Also do not forget that George essentially intentionally caused the whole situation that he used to get Max the penalty because George both was warned by his engineer and acknowledged that he saw them and then drove almost straight into Max. Max is just fed up when others complain about him constantly and try to beat him using a loose interpretation of the rulebook. So Max picks up the rulebook and makes sure he follows the rules and if he sees a breach, he just notices that. It's returning like for like. Max just needs four wheels and a working engine to make a pass, people like Norris need a complaints department in order to remain stuck behind Max.
Max getting his revenge and somehow getting a car that was as good as the Mclaren was so much fun. Idk what happened after the sprint but that change to the RB20 is what they've been looking for the last 4 months. Also, not letting off during a double yellow is just plain stupid. Every driver knows what it means and its right on their wheel, no excuses. Bet he wont do it again.
Sprint race replacement idea.... What about a "Race of Champions" race on "Sprint" weekends? Pick a car (or better still, rotate through the various manfs. on the grid). All in spec cars with spec tires. Nothing crazy just like sports cars. Something like Mustangs, Arturas, M4s, etc.
Lando didn't follow procedure and gained an advantage, George wasn't paying attention, didn't brake and instead went off track on his warm up lap and blamed Max for his poor decision making like he did blaming Alonso's dirty air in Australia when he was messing about on his steering wheel instead of paying attention to the car he was chasing, there is a difference between calling someone out for their mistake and blaming other for your own decision making
Let us be honest about Russell. He saw Alonso and Verstappen. He was warned about them by his engineer. George proceeded to go into them full throttle. Russell intentionally caused the whole situation and then cried to shift the blame to Verstappen.
Sorry to chim in late but VSC through the pit lane would not work. It would be so unfair when it ends and there's 3 or 4 drivers stuck in the pits serving an unwarented drive through penalty
I think the SPRINT races should just be for the reserve/Test driver …. That are NOT in F2. Points are there own for Sprint championship…. And points for Construction are added onto the team points
Rather than getting points for each sprint race have a sprint championship and the top 10 finishers in that championship get the equivalent points of 1 Grand Prix. So the winner gets 25 & 10th gets 1 point.
I must be the only one who thinks the punctures were nothing to so with the wing mirror! Surely the right front was more likely to puncture than the left front? Also this track is front left limited and the kerbs were dodgy in the past? For me, a crappy coincidence.
@fatimak6521 I'm glad someone agrees. The moment you saw their on boards entering the straight, you could see both drivers counteracting the deflating tyre before even getting to the mirror debris.
@AshW451 the fact they told piastri and max to box immediately even before they brought out the safety car says they feared it was the tyre compound having an issue and not the puncture
Damn Tommo. You did that turnaround so quickly. I was hoping to have a family brunch and hopefully tonight in the US West coast you put up the poll...you did the stream already!!! 😭😭
Say what you will, I'm pretty happy that the stewards have brought back the drive through penalty. Needs to be used more often instead of a time penalty
Wrong. They did not bring back the drive through penalty. Ignoring the safety flags has been a 10 second stop-and-go for a long, long time. Been handed out before multiple times.
If what I keep seeing on socials is true; no one actually slowed down for the yellows so everyone should’ve had that penalty. Also the clip F1 posted showing how Lando got the penalty makes it look more like Lando was just incredibly unlucky because the light turned yellow when he was right next to it and then by the time the physical flags were visible the light right behind them was green. Still technically deserved a penalty of course, but I wouldn’t blame him for that
A video on the Tsunoda vs Lawson battle on this 5 race stint would be interesting. It is very close. See my notes from Lawson's perspective below: In his current stint, Lawson has raced five times and scored points twice, finishing P9 both times. Here's the breakdown: GP finishes: Lawson 2 vs Tsunoda 3. Lawson (P9, P16, P9, P16, P14) vs Tsunoda (P14, P20, P7, P9, P13). Sprint results: Lawson 2 vs Tsunoda 1. Lawson (P16, P9, P16) vs Tsunoda (P11, P15, P17). In qualifying, Tsunoda has outqualified Lawson in each GP session, but it's been fair from a landslide. Consider the context: Austin: Lawson set the faster time but was tasked with helping Tsunoda due to a massive grid penalty he inherited. Even with Lawson’s tow in Q2, Tsunoda couldn’t post a better time. Lawson's time in Q1 was good enough for P9 had he been able to participate in the other sessions. Mexico: Tsunoda qualified 11th and Lawson 12th, separated by just over a tenth. However, Tsunoda’s crash in Q2 denied Lawson, who was on a strong lap, the chance to progress further. Brazil: Both excelled in wet conditions, with Tsunoda qualifying P3 and Lawson P5. Las Vegas: Lawson struggled in the cold, dirty conditions-unique on the calendar-while Tsunoda’s experience paid off. Lawson qualifying P16; Tsunoda, P7. Qatar: Both cars lacked pace the whole weekend. Lawson missed Q2 by less than a tenth, with Tsunoda advancing but only to P14. Lawson qualified P17. Sprint qualifying tells a different story though: Lawson 2 vs Tsunoda 1. Lawson (P15, P8, P10) vs Tsunoda (P9, P18, P17). - Lawson somehow got the slowest car on the Grid in Qatar to P10 in the sprint qualifying.
Can you do a hypothetical video of Lando and Carlos still being at McLaren. And maybe how that would’ve 1.)changed the driver line ups 2.) changed the potential championship this year
My problem with the Lando incident is just that why was it not VSC immediately and it was weird that it kept going green then yellow like 10 times so im sure a lot of people did the same as Lando just Max noticed it and reported him which fair play. Someone can then run out grab the mirror and the race gets going in 1 or 2 laps. The mirror was in the only spot for overtaking so they basically wasted 7 laps with nobody able to overtake and then it results in 2 punctures and a whole bunch of penalties.
No need for Zhou to be in RB, RB should be for RedBull juniors only. Zhou is better off as nbr2 driver in the top team. Both Zhou and Bottas can do better than Checo in that car
I think Williams should be the clanger team in Qatar, because Colapinto just destroyed another chasis, suspensions… It could be possible that they might not be able to have both cars appear in Abu Dhabi.😅
I have followed F1 racing since 2002, my favorite drivers are Montoya, Alonso and Hamilton. Honestly, Zhou's talents in terms of driving skills and taking risks are still not good enough to reach the podium level. Undeniablely, Zhou is a perfect 2nd driver, like Bottas, to facilitate the team to remain on the TOP 5 team. Zhou is a calm, and consistent driver with much less self-made errors.
It's crucially important to make sure driver's slow down under double yellows, because nobody wants to see another Suzuka 14 incident. There have been harsher penalties for ignoring yellow flags in the past, and the non-penalty consequences aren't worth thinking about
While I can agree with the low rating for the racing itself. I found this race to be excellent in terms of entertainment factor. There was never a time in the race when I felt I was waiting for something to happen. There was always something to focus on
i think “mclaren didn’t maximise” this weekend isn’t completely accurate? were they on track to score every point available? no.. but they didn’t need to in order to win the championship, which in my opinion would constitute maximising performance when there’s clearly other cars that performed well.. and if it weren’t for the excessive penalty for lando (or at the very least, penalising him not 20 laps later so he could have benefitted from the safety cars) they would have taken the championship in the order they were in
1:16:01 I wouldn't say Valtteri deserves more in this race. Zhou did outqualify him by 0.2s. And Zhou was hit by a gear sync issue at the launch (the same issue happened multiple times already this season) and couldn't accelerate normally, causing him to lose places. The Lawson and Bottas incident was more like a equalizer of misfortunes.
BTW, Bottas wasn't hit by Lawson. He dodged away with his lightning quick reflexes. But that did compromise his racing, causing Zhou to take back his position.
With the Lando penalty for me it’s about consistency. Of course you should get a penalty for not following safety protocols during a race. Many people have died in this sport and these safety regulations are written in their blood and not following them is disrespectful not only to those drivers but also the stewards who risk their lives every race as well. But there has to be more consistency with the penalties. Gasly sped under red flag conditions, while raining and with both a tractor and stewards on track in Japan 2022 and got 20 secs penalty.
If the rule is there for not slowing under the double yellow. Why did ONLY Lando get penalised? I've seen the telemetry of at least 9 others doing the same but yet to see a 10 second stop go applied to others
The strategy for the sprint quali was dodgy and there's nothing Yuki could salvage in the SR. On the Race, Yuki took every opportunity to get himself up the position in the start and restart, he was at one point P9/10 before he got dropped by the other much faster cars. The car had no grip in the corners and was smoked by everyone in the straights, they were simply the slowest car in that race. Liam's car couldn't even get wheel to wheel to Valtteri's car despite using everything. The car was just that bad.
As a lando fan, he definitely deserved to get penalized but I think the rule itself is flawed. Of course it’s not the stewards fault, if that’s what it says in the book then that’s what they’re gonna give BUT I think the rule is way to nuanced. As Andrea Stella said I think the rule should be looked at and considered for different circumstances. The fact that the penalty is the same regardless of whether you are endangering anyone and gaining is kinda crazy to me. It’s also crazy that it took them so long to penalize him. The decision should’ve been made 10 laps earlier if it was that clear of a rule.
Was Lando's penalty deserved? Absolutely because it concerns safety. BUT what's outrageous is how long it took for them to give that penalty. That was a slam dunk penalty but it took 8-9 laps.
I'd argue it wasn't "deserved." Because how is he supposed to see the double-yellow board? When it activated, he would've actively needed to be looking away from the track ahead of him, and instead be looking to the left. All he could see ahead of him was the green light. If we want to talk safety, then why did the marshals eventually remove the solid yellow from the flag board when the mirror was clearly still there?
I am rooting for Ferrari but that was complete bullshit. It’s ridiculous for them to be like “it’s a safety thing” when they left that mirror on the track for so long.
The rules need to be black and white. If you do blank then the punishment is blank. This way everyone knows what’s going to happen when they break the rules. Right now it’s so inconsistent
With Lewis while the puncture wasn’t his fault wanting to just give up and retire the car is his fault. This isn’t the first time he has wanted to retire the car because things aren’t going his way.
I have to agree with you on the race rating. It was a boring race. The only things that were "interesting" were fabricated. There were some good battles or overtakes, but they only lasted 2 corners.
Lewis should be happy to even be in F1. Be grateful, how many drivers will never get a chance and he wants to retire because he is not winning. Disgrace. Against everything what he is for.
You’d never say that about any other driver. Knowing the car cant perform well enough to fight thru the adversity to score with only a few laps left isn’t that crazy. It’s strategic and teams do it all the time. Why is it whenever a black person is of discussion they should be grateful for the opportunity to even play in the same sandbox, as if to remind us that you dont have to let us play in the box and much more could be done to keep is out. Even if that black person is Thee Greatest person at playing in that sandbox to have ever played in that sandbox. Always on some shut up and dribble, or drive or whatever. Its getting old. We can both be greatful which im sure he is, but also have the experience to know when his efforts are futile.
Im all for Lance being replaced but I believed he has shown that he is significantly lacking in spatial awareness. WEC is the last series he should be looking into. He needs to go play tennis. He enjoys that
I think Ferrari will win the constructors theyve had the best car since the summer break and I think McLaren will struggle at Abu Dhabi again and 21pts will be close but ultimately I expect a Ferrari 1 2 and its up to the McLaren's to try and be at least in the top 5
It was certainly memorable. But for all the wrong reasons. It was a clown show that they put on there. But hey, I'm happy Zhou got points before the end of his career. So that was cool
This was the worst race directing I have ever seen. Norris penalty seems fair enough now I have had time to review, HAM jumpstart is absolute bullshit given Norris was given nothing for exactly the same thing in Saudi, HAM DT for speeding in pit lane was a poor decision, that should be 5/10s penalty. 4 laps to decide on what to do when there is a huge piece of debris that ended up ruining HAM race and costing SAI any chance at progressing is absolutely unacceptable. VER penalty for nothing post-qualifying is also utter drivel. Absolutely horrific performance from the race director. He absolutely must resign with immediate effect.
Lando just isn’t there yet to be a champion. He still makes too many mistakes. You can’t make mistakes and beat the likes of Max. Maybe in the future he will mature but he’s not there yet
Saw plenty of good racing in the race proper. Only disagree with there not being an immediate safety car following Albon's loss of his mirror. In the race I saw no undeserved penalties or massive overlooking. The GP was very entertaining and drivers like Verstappen, Gasly, Alonso and Zhou showed their real best in howlers of cars. Overal it was at least an 8/10, leaning more to a 9/10. Norris' punishment was the exact same punishment others got for the same safety infringement and that was the minimum he could have gotten. Let's also remind everyone that Norris ignored an aborted start in Brazil as well. Norris has no respect for safety measures. F1 is a dangerous sport, people die. In fact, Norris claims to not have seen the double-yellows. That is worse than ignoring the flags. It means he isn't capable of paying attention. Probably comes from the same spot as his talent for bottling.
Can you do a hypothetical video of Lando and Carlos still being at McLaren. And maybe how that would’ve 1.)changed the driver line ups 2.) changed the potential championship this year
This was just a DTS clip farm race
The whole time I was like "man, those episode is gonna be wild" 😂
Genius.
Dude they don’t even need to farm, they already have so much to talk about it’s gonna suck how much they’ll miss
Hey, I’m just here for the GA5LY P5 and Zhou Guanyu points.
Too late for Zhou though, POS car destroyed his career.😢

Yuki did not have a 'howler'; in the first stint he managed to get up to P9 in a shitbox before being slowly thwarted out by the quicker cars he had surpassed, and even then he was still in an odds on points scoring position until he was pitted onto softs under the final safety car rather than staying out on fresh hards which lost him both track position and the better tyre for that final stint.
yuki was a beast at times today particularly on the race start and the restarts. i watched most of his race onboard and he hardly put a foot wrong other than a dubious (but ultimately harmless) defense on gasly. another good performance from him but unfortunately their car was completely exposed by this circuit, it was a miracle he was able to make any moves at all
Yepp, Yuki was driving the maximum of the car and took every opportunity that he got, the car just didn't have any pace and the strategy was baffling.
I think YUKI did great and the fact that despite how good he drove he was nowhere near the points makes it a howler

@@ShadowWolfe Hi George Russell.
To compare sauber and Aston as equal, after only two races…. Cmon man. You may be right but two races is not enough.
Yuki gained massively positions first couple corners.... then lost them one by one as car seemed poo for both drivers.
Yeah but with Max what you see is what you get. With GR he is duplicitous
Race director was a clown
2/10..,. Random piles of gravel just off track, dirty track, inability to send people out to pick up that mirror, etc.

Honestly I don't think that Stroll penalty was deserved. Alex had some room on the outside but chose to keep it in a bit. Lap 1 racing incident imo.
Stroll agreed with the penalty. He said it wasn't intentional, but them is the rules.
That was an embarrassment to the series and to motorsport as a whole.
just accept the fact we got an exciting race and move on
Bigger embarrassment will be if Ferrari wins constructors
Can you do a hypothetical video of Lando and Carlos still being at McLaren.
And maybe how that would’ve
1.)changed the driver line ups
2.) changed the potential championship this year
