I am so glad I found your videos. Your mom’s work is beautiful. Maybe the next time she goes to her house in Greece she can take some pics of her cross stitch pieces there so you can share on your channel. You had me laughing so hard at your covered bridge story. Stitching Jules has so many beautiful patterns. If you haven’t watched her channel you should see some of the pieces she stitches. Your woodworking is beautiful, please continue to share pics of your work.

Your mother's work is amazing so intricate. I think that would be sweet to take her to a store and try and get her interested again.

New England area is beautiful, especially in the fall. It has been on my bucket list, lol. I was a knitter until a shoulder surgery a couple of years ago. I just started back up with cross stitch. For many a year I avoided kits. I prefer DMC floss. Most of your kits use a cheaper quality floss. Now I can't do counted cross stitch so had to go to stamped cross stitch. Tried a 14 count. Very hard to see. Now I work on an 11 count. Love it. I am working on a Joy Sunday. It's a wicker basket on its side with sunflowers coming out of it. My wife loves sunflowers. She is really liking the progress.
I also do diamond painting. It was the craft a co worker got me into after the shoulder surgery. After a year of doing it, I needed a break. Hence went back to cross stitch.
So glad of the success on your first flosstube. It's rare for me to see men in the thread arts. I am old so in my day I hud my talent.
If you didn't know Rosie Greer, a big football player, needle pointed. He even has some pattern books, not sure if they are still available today.
Samplers are awesome. Would love to see them in stamped cross stitch. Lol
    Thanks for your videos.

Hi Jonnie, I also love Stitching Jules. I have finished her monochrome sea turtle and now I'm working (besides many other projects) on je Empire State Workers. I find it quite easy to stitch. I 've never ever done a monochrome, but I fell in love with them. Next one will probably be the koala 🥰 you chose two beautiful pieces...... 👍

I can not help with your question as I am wooden hoop only stitcher.. i collect vintage ones. Once you have a floor frame made in class you could make yourself a hoop. 😉
Love hearing of another Gilmour Girls fan. While stitching, I listen to the 'I am all in' podcast , where the actor who played Luke is watching all 7 seasons then discusses with his team.
Good luck , look forward to future vids

You are doing such big projects you probably need a wooden needlework frame that you can adjust. Then you call roll up and store in a pillowcase. No creases! But do invest in a small project that you can travel with. A Q-snap would be good for that!
The wood working is super cool!

You can buy multiple Qsnaps and then put them together to make the size you want, I do not like a Qsnap I use Nurge or Morgan hoops myself😊 so happy to see a new video and Thanjs for sharing Moms beautiful work as well❤ Tell her stitching daily really helps me with my RA in my hands! I doubt they would work at all if I didn’t stitch! Oh when I stitch my Mirabilias I do all the stitching in a large section then I backstitch as I go ( or I won’t stitch the back stitch) I bead last! I use a lap stand for beading and always place batting over the beaded area if I have to roll my stitching up for my beading! Hope that is helpful! 😊

Hello again, I watched your 2 Flosstubes back to back...whilst stitching of course, but I did not get much done as more interested in your videos, I love that you showed your Mum's work too! I have just turned 60 and have been stitching since I was about 14, so a lot of my early work was actually embroidery with all the different stitches and I have most of my work on my walls at home, although I have now started putting them in project folders as not a lot of space left ! I recently bought 2 charts from Jules, 1 of a Wolf face and the other is of the Queen! I got them before she died but I am stitching her in 2 shades of Purple because of her Jubilee, and the Wolf is in dark grey, I am stitching on 20 count easy count aida, I dont think I would be able to manage otherwise, I am using 1 thread and doing full cross stitches and the look ok so far. I love the bridge chart you have and look forward to seeing you do that, it reminds me of maybe a Stephen King film (well he is from Maine,) loved your spooky story about it. Looking forward to your next video, but have fun on your trip...where ever that may be too lol 🌞

Fantastic to hear how long you've been stitching, what a great crafty journey it's been for you. Reading this reminds me to pull that bridge pattern out. I completely forgot about it! Loved your mom’s work, so beautiful.
For qsnap get two set 8x8 and 11x11 that way you will have 3 options because you can use them as they are or set it up as 8x11
If your project has beading leave that for the last of you use qsnap because it can shatter your beads.
Thank you very much for the shoutout 😊
Good luck on your trip and happy stitching

Welcome back. Cross stitch first, beading second and backs stitch last. HOWEVER: There are no rules in cross stitch nor a cross stitch police. Experiment as you work on various projects, and YOU will eventually find what works best for you. Also, I find that I alternate between beading and back stitching - depends on the complexity and size of the project. Please thank your Mother for me for sharing her beautiful needlepoint projects. They remind me of those which hung in my parent's homes and my extended families homes when I was going up.

In my opinion, I prefer to leave the beading last, however, Teresa Little stitcher on youtube had a brilliant idea and stitches and beads at the same time but protects her beading from being crushed in the roller bars by using felt squares. Brilliant! I do that now!

Hi Johnnie! Great video. It would be great to include a video with mom as your guest. That might inspire her to stitch again. I use q-snaps and because you stitch on large projects, I would recommend an 11×11 to start with and see if you like using it. And if you do, your stitching stand that you'd like to make, should accommodate the q-snap. Just a thought. I own the smaller and larger sizes but love the 11x11 the most. An 11x17 may come in handy when beading because you have a larger area to bead without possibly breaking the beads. A sit and stitch would be great but may be hard for some of us because of the time difference. You'll have to stagger them LOL! Safe travels for your business trip. Happy stitching! Congrats on over 3k subscribers before you made your second video! I’m from New England…born and raised in Massachusetts, retired to Maine. Acadia National Park might be where you visited in Maine. Lots of beautiful hotels and covered bridges in N.H. but your experience sounds fun! 😂 Let me know if you remember where you were…I want to visit. Your mom’s needlework is beautiful. I hope you find something that will help her be able to stitch again. Regarding the beading… I made the mistake of putting beads on before backstitch and I had to pull them out because I couldn’t get around the bead to backstitch…if that make sense.

I am a similar stitcher in the sense of a few large focus projects- there are ways you can make your WIPGO goals fit with your stitching style :) I added things like 'organizing my thread collection' and 'look at all of my patterns' as goals XP
Also, I like to backstitch as I go, but I cannot stand backstitching after beading. Or any heavy stitching after beading. The threads get all wrapped up in the beads it's whack. But that might be a lack of experience lol
Love your videos, your projects are gorgeous and I can't wait to see more! You have such a pleasant vibe.
Also, I DIG the woodworking- heckin cool

That's the thing with wipgo, any one can do it and it's list of fun. You can do one wip for the whole board and have different challenges for each square or you cab have a different wip for each box and the same challenge for all Squares. You can even mix and match use 3 wips with 3 different challenges and swap them about. It's all down to you.

I have been waiting (as patiently as I could) for your second FlossTube Johnnie! Watched it immediately after I saw it on my subscription feed and was caught off guard by your sweet shoutout of my channel ❤️ thank you so much for the kind words, it means a lot!! Also, in terms of q snaps, I totally agree that the sizes and extenders are a bit confusing online. Though since it seems like you have 1-2 big projects out at a time I would recommend something similar to what I do! I have a single 11x11 q snap and I put my big focus project on it for however long I am working on it (usually 1-2 months at a time). Then I switch it out with the next project when the time comes!

omg, I totally understand how you feel about adding a new WIP to the mix. I just got a new kit that I can't wait to start, and so many other designs in my "want" list, but I'm also a monogamous stitcher and already have two WIPs on the go (where really I'm just working on one and the other is being ignored completely). The idea of adding a 3rd (or 4th or 5th) is a bit overwhelming and I'd need to figure out a system to rotate through them or something, cause I know myself and will fixate on just one, which is totally not the point. Love your videos and can't wait to see your progress and hear more about your life. Hope you have a blast on your work trips, sounds like you're very excited!

Welcome to flosstube, I have the 11x11 Qsnap which I think would be ideal for you with a lot of your larger projects. There are 3" and 6" extensions/elbows if you want to go bigger and do 11x14, 11x17, 14x14, etc. I've done some smaller projects in my 8x8 Qsnap and I find that even when they're smaller projects, I would just rather have a larger area in the snap so I have more areas to choose from to work on if I want, instead of having to do one small area before moving the snap. For that reason I would more likely just use large-ish hoops for smaller projects, and I love my Nurge 8" spring tension hoop, and I have a 5" Edmunds spring tension hoop on the way.

I’d try a 8x8 or an 11x11 Q snap. It really depends on how big of an area you like stitching in. I enjoy an 8x8. But also if you got both you can combine them and make a 8x11 “….but make sure it’s a name brand Q snap all others don’t get the fabric tight enough. Plus I use a piece of felt under the snaps on the sides to protect your fabric. …….Also I believe it’s cross stitch, backstitch then bead so the beads lay flat and nothing goes over them. :)

Loved seeing the information about your mom’s pieces! My advice on the QSnap is to see if you can try one somewhere before you buy. I say that because I am a QSnap hater! Lol. What no one’s tells you is that they are clunky and heavy. I have arthritis in my hands and a lightweight hoop works much better for me. But I know people adore their snaps, so I’m just saying, maybe try one out before you commit. Also, I predict that you will not be a 2 or 3 project stitcher for much longer! I think it happens to everyone when they start discovering all of these great designers!

Hello from Montana! I bought an 8x8 qsnap and don't like it as it is too limiting for it's size and your work area. I prefer a Morgan or Nurge hoop for most projects. I did get an 11x17 qsnap for a HAED mini and love the size for a bigger project! This is my first HAED and yes they are daunting but there are no fancy complicated stitches, just cross stitches. You should take another look at trying a HAED mini and see what you think. I'm scared to try pieces with beading and specialty stitches so plain old cross stitches suit me for now. BTW your mom's stitching is gorgeous, you are a talented family. Lastly I love the idea of your making your own embroidery stand. Go for it!

Your mom’s work is beautiful. The large pieces are very much like tapestries. Love your projects and your enthusiasm - I can’t wait to see the progression of your Enchanter project. 😊. For Q-snaps, its your preference. Hoops are great - and many people work in hand. I had a bad experience with Q-snaps where it damaged the linen so I tend to stitch in hand, hoops or Nurge frames. If you use felt with your Q-Snaps, your fabric should not be compromised. For order of beading…I do all the thread work, back stitch and then beads but it kind of depends on the piece. Your woodwork projects are very cool! Looking forward to your next FlossTube 😊

You could do full stitches on the darker parts, and tent stitches on the lighter areas to do a more shaded look. Beads last, too much chance of them breaking otherwise.

I am not sure if anyone has already suggested this in regards to using Pattern Keeper for back stitch. What i do is load the chart twice, naming the second one as xxxxxx backstitch. This way, as i do the back stitch, i can mark it off a clean copy of the pattern.
    Hope this helps.
    Keep up the good work

Your mom's work is beautiful! She will have to join you some time to say hi! On the q-snap, make sure you get the q-snap brand. They are much better quality than the box store brand. They hold the fabric tighter and last longer. Also, you can interchange them and buy replacement clips more easily. They are a little more, but totally worth it. I would start with an 8x8 or 11x11. I like to buy one of each and combine them into two 8x11s. I only use 6x6 on ornaments. I use 11x11 on big projects. Everything else, I use an 8x11. I have an 11x17, but the 17 is too long for my short arms. Q-snaps are interchangeable. The off brands are not as interchangeable.

Flosstube is the best community! Hello, Johnnie's Mom. We are honestly interested and will keep watching and commenting as long as he makes videos. 😀 I'm sorry to say Pattern Keeper doesn't work with backstitch, and I'd do all the stitching first, saving the beading for last. I'd recommend an 11x11 Q-snap to start. Any larger can cause you to need to reach for the furthest stitches, and 8x8 means a bit more repositioning of the fabric (but great for small projects). Stay safe and craft happy.

Hi Hun. Yr mums work is beautiful. She should definitely start stitching again. Something u both can share together. I can't help u with the pattern keeper. I am so old school. I love using my paper charts. Always have. I love a snaps. So fast and easy. Also use quantum wooden frames for larger pieces like haeds and my death by cross stitch. Loved seeing yr woodwork. My fella does woodwork do I find it interesting to see. U won't get rich doing flosstube but as someone who watches flosstube....I'm not either. I get enabled all the time. Not to worry. It's fun. In terms of the qsnap... There are many imitation brands out there that are far cheaper, but you absolutely get what you pay for -- qsnap brand just holds the tension better than all the rest. I prefer to use an 11x11" qsnap because it lets me see a good chunk of my project without having to move it around a tonne. That said, my fav size used to be 11x17". I love that whatever sizes you get, they are interchangeable so that you can find the size that best suits you and your particular project.

Love the goldwork lady your mum stitched, so beautiful, I'd really like to try some goldwork at some point. I wouldn't go smaller than 11" qsnap if you're stitching on large projects. I have my Mirabilia blue topaz fairy / fairy roses, both on 11" qsnaps with extender kit to take to 14" & that's my favourite size. it works with my Lowery. If I was holding it though it would be too big/heavy.

Welcome back! As to your Qsnap question, they come in 6 inch, 8”, 11” & 17”. I don’t use a stand - just hold it on my lap - & I like 8” for that. I do a lot of full coverage & just move it around as I need to. If you use a stand you might find a larger size more convenient. And they are all interchangeable, so you can create your own size - 6x8, 8x11, 11x17 etc. I find the 6” size a little too small usually, but I do use it for ‘travel stitching’ - as a passenger in a car, at the airport, on the plane, etc because it is small & doesn’t require a lot of space. Good luck!

Your mother's works are gorgeous! I'm glad that you and your sister have persuaded her to put them up on the walls.
I've never seen frames like that before. I wonder if they were a specialty of a local framer in your area. They are quite unique.
For qsnaps, I'd suggest going with a size that is similar to your hoop size. Maybe a 8x8, which isn't too big or small.
Beads are usually the last thing you do. Cross stitch and backstitch first then all the beading. And definitely get something to hold your beads while you are beading. Spilled beads are the worst. I use a tacky bob which are now sold as tacky bill.
Aww! A work stitching buddy. I don't hide my stitching. Everyone at work knows that I stitch. Several others have stitched before so we talk about it.
Now you have the entirety of flosstube looking for Planetarius for you 🤣
    Have a wonderful week.

Your woodwork is beautiful. I hope you continue sharing it. The thought of stitching a Chatelain gives me anxiety, lol. HAEDs looked overwhelming to me too, but, especially with the easy-grid fabrics, there’s minimal counting, so in some ways I find them easier.
I started with a small one just to give it a try, like you said, but it wasn’t one I loved, and so I find I rarely stitch on it. Now I stitch on the one that I had really wanted to do that was larger. And I’m actually starting a new one in July, and it will be my first max color, but It’s the treasure hunt bookshelf, and it just needs to be Max color (I am NOT doing the super-sized one though 😅). I also started out doing the parking method. It was easy enough, but I did not enjoy it. I went back to regular/cross country). Anyway, that’s just my very limited experience, as I haven’t even gotten to 25% on one yet 😂 I have a few more kitted up, but how many full coverages can a girl have going at one time, lol.

It was wonderful to see your mum's work being brought out and enjoyed again. My mum used to do lots of those pieces as well. She would often get them from a magazine called Stitchcraft (I have all her old back issues now) - they would often have a big pattern that you could send away for. Love all your stitching and stories!
I always do cross stitching, back stitching, beading last. Especially if you are using a hoop as the hoop can crush the beads.

It was great to see your update video. Your mums needlepoint was amazing, when I do needlepoint I use stretcher bars or a scroll frame then use the adapter for lowery stands in order to work on it hands free. In answer to your beading question, i do cross stitch, back stitch, beading - from experience I found the thread kept getting caught on the beads when I did beading before back stitch. I would recommend an 8x8 and/or 11x11 qsnap as these fit most projects, you can get bigger sizes such as a 17x17 but these are difficult to hold without a floor stand. You can also get . What is great about qsnaps is that you can mix and match parts from different sizes to create a custom frame that can grow with your project. I use an app call good notes when my chart has back stitch on. Looking forward to you next update.
