Everyone who had a hand in making this perfect film has done mankind a service the value of which is getting clearer with every passing year. Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Graham Chapman are no longer walking among us, but their spirit is in our pounding hearts and splitting sides. And we wish John, Michael & Terry health and happy years!
You had men, playing the role of women, pretending to be men. All the while making comedy out of one of the worst forms of execution. This scene is pure genius.
No matter how often I see this, it always cracks me up. Love the reaction of the Roman Guards at the stupidity of it all. Scary thing is, the absurdity of this is still going on today and it isn't just the Muslims extremists. There are "Christians" who'd like to bring it back too, especially in the U.S.
I love this scene as well. It is, indeed, brilliantly absurd .... especially when you consider blasphemy is not uttering the name of YHWH, but claiming you serve YHWH when you don't! Great Scene! It never gets old! ROFLMAO!!!

How come the gospel story has pious Chief priests instigate the crucifixion of Jesus even though that is not the exact punishment the Hebrew Bible dictated for blasphemy? If Jesus was concerned that the "righteous" laws of god be upheld then shouldn't he have demanded that at least he should be stoned to death as the law required if they thought he was guilty of blasphemy ? JC: "Look it says stoning for blasphemy, can't you get anything right?" perhaps in the manner of the John Cleese priest character in Life of Brian What if the god of love had put the 11th commandment as "Thou shalt not crucify people or use other forms of torture while carrying out capital punishment" ? Then Jesus could have called foul on what the chief priests were doing, "Look, God says you shall not crucify people" I think this shows a distinct lack of foresight by babble god. How can people claim the crucifixion was a fulfillment of prophecy ? How come none of the other characters in the New Testament complains that Jesus was not killed exactly as stipulated by the law, none of the Pharisees or Sadducees, disciples, Paul or even god ? If stoning was the prescribed punishment for blasphemy then how would Jesus have died without having a bone in his body broken ?
According to the Bible, Jesus claimed to be the king of the Jews. They used this against him when they brought him to Pilate, claiming he was trying to start a revolution and proclaim himself king. Pilate knew that this wasn't his problem, because since Jesus was a Jew, he should be tried by Jews. So he sent him to be tried by king Herod, who was king of the Jews. Herod couldn't get anything out of him, so he sent him back to Pilate. After the trial he sentenced him to death, which their practice was crucifixion.
I am true christian and belive that Jesus is our savior, but this is extremely hilarious. Nothing is so serious that we can have a good laugh about it. Even religion. The film in it self is a masterpiece in comedy. I hope in the future that someone is brave enough to do a comedy movie about islam. They really need that to happend because what a dark and to serious religion. And i know what i am talking about.
