- Freight locos including a pair of 37/9's, pair of 86/6's, 56076, and 47301, plus charter trains with 33208 & 33116 and a pair of NSE Class 309 'Clacton' units at Crewe in association with Basford Hall Open Day(featured in my previous 'classic' upload), along with other passing workings including a RES 47 drag and 37425 'Concrete Bob'. Filmed on 21st August 1994.
47301! What a beast! Great trip down memory lane again!
Cheers mate.
Thanks Steve. Having come from the neighbouring Basford Hall Open Day before this, i was certainly spoilt for some classic locos on this day - never had a day that's come close to it since!
Another superb job Darren I miss those years again and again and .....
Thanks. Probably approaching the last few years for seeing a variety of traction like this out on the mainline - good old days :-)
Cracking bit of footage!
I arrived on the Class 309's in the video.
They were on the Manchester to Crewe service (not a charter) hauled by 37407.
Due to engineering works, it went via Stafford.
Seeing Crewe Diesel depot was cool to see.... it's such a depressing place now.
I used to love going to Crewe, but now it's practically a railway ghost town..... a semi-transparent image of what used to be!
Thanks Hayden. Considering the footage was recorded onto a mini tape, copied onto VHS video tape(where it's sat until now), then put onto DVD before being edited and uploaded to here, it does keep a great deal of quality indeed. If only the quality of locos at Crewe was like this now.
Wonderful, this is my No1 vid of the moment, thanks for posting it.
Brought back some great memories for me too making the movie. 47301 complete with Thornaby Kingfisher - a beast indeed!
Thanks very much Kev - good old days indeed.
Excellent video Darren. Yes, Crewe certainly isn't like that anymore sadly. Great sounds from the 33's, 47s and 56. Your old footage certainly has been kept well, like Keith says, the quality of the film is excellent.
Thank you very much Keith. The camera was pretty good quality at the time, and i reckon the sound capture(with external mic)is better than my current HD camera with it's poor built-in mic.
Some superb looking loco's on this one Darren. Big LIKE !!
Nice to see 47301 in her finery! What a treasure trove of traction!
Thanks very much Bill, much appreciated.
Thanks very much. Yes, it makes you look back and realise what we've lost since this was filmed.
It goes without saying that this is superb footage Darren.. Spectacular I'd call it... And wots all this 'HD' about.. Just look at the superb quality of this video...I rest my case.
Thanks for that. I'd missed the 309's arrive and was working from memory that they'd come in on a charter from the GEML - must have got confused with another 1990's trip. Crewe depot is certainly not what it was back then, a real shame.
Thanks very much. Yes, the WCML(and most other lines)are all very 'sterile' now, lacking the character of these past years. I loved the sound from 37906 as it left light engine, and 86's on any passenger working are always good - sadly missed now of course.
Thanks Colin. Yes, quite a few down the ramps there for the specials, but all fairly well behaved and no need for any interference - it wouldn't be like that today!
Nice one Darren, see alot people walking down the end of the platforms there
Thank you, much appreciated.
Great stuff, duff 741 on the drag, Cromptons, Tractors!!
Thanks Ian.
I was on the Pathfinder tour that day
The 37/9s up the WCML from Nuneaton were awesome
Another great blast from the past
Always good to see a 'Grid' in action, especially one of the few steel sector locos.
Thanks very much.
yep had afew like that at York back in December when a steam was due in, started to walk along the slope
Lovely stuff - wonderful
47301 was a bit of a special Sulzer! There certainly was the biggest variety of traction I've seen in one sitting :-)
Thanks.
Cheers Tony. Can't recall which BR blue 47 that was, but not many left at this time. I hadn't noticed the big 55 on the t-shirt until you said :-)
Sadly scrapped(in 2003 i believe), and ironically at neighbouring Basford Hall.
Can remember when 33s were common at Crewe on the Cardiff's before 37/4s took over
Indeed, I can remember those too - also Cardiff to Portsmouth back in the day as well.
Nice one Daz, liked the blue 47 @ 5.29 & did you notice the guy in the football shirt with the big 55 on the back @ 1.40? luked.
Great vid
56076 what a legend
love it
Glad you luked it :-) lol
Blimey, that certainly is good quality if it's been copied that many times!!
That was meant to say liked, lol.
What happened to 47301
Stored in 2000, scrapped in 2003
Yes 56s rocka
