Saw this Maiden jet and photographed it in Fort Lauderdale, Florida the day they kicked off their Book of Souls World Tour, and then went to the concert that night!! Up the Irons!!
If you like Iron Maiden and Bruce Dickinson you will like the documentary about him: 'Scream for Me Sarajevo' is the astonishing story of the most unlikely of rock concerts, performed by Bruce Dickinson and his band Skunkworks in 1994. Risking their lives, they were smuggled into the besieged city to play a concert for its citizens amidst the chaos of war.
No, but I heard about when she flew into JFK. Kennedy Steve was working ground at the time. The plane caused quite a sensation among the ATCs and other airline pilots!
"Damaged by a tug and quickly repaired" is a bit of an understatement. Search the Internet and see the near-superhuman effort that went into fixing the damage, with IIRC 2 new engines having to be flown thousands of miles and fitted somewhere that they are not usually fitted. That was some insurance bill to fix the plane
Imagine, the pilot states over pa, the fun trivia that the plane's earlier callsign was 666 ! I'm sure you'll have a lot of folks trying to get out of the plane.
What a wonderful story for this beautiful Jumbo Jet. I am so delighted she will escape the mass cull of this gorgeous and iconic aircraft and it's fantastic news that she will fly again. It is criminal these majestic and safe Queens of the Sky are being decommissioned, purely on economic grounds. 😢 Four engine jets like the 747 have the best safety potential, especially over oceans, in the case of engine failure. They are also spacious and comfortable for long haul travel. It is the greatest thrill to fly on a 747! They (along with the equally threatened A380) will be a huge loss to aviation. Superb aircraft! ✈️🙂
I still remember the ad playing here in the Portland area for that tour date, the voice work, the ad itself, the plane being shown off on it. I had a laugh over it actually, seeing as to me, they're well past their prime, and definitely on their way down to the retirement level of bands of their era and status, like my favorite band of all time in Styx. It'd be akin to Van Halen doing the same thing around the same time - well past their primes, likely really doing it more for the hell of it and fun than anything.
I flew on TF-AMK and TF-AME when they were leased to XL their former -300s and sat in the bubble. Engine blew on take off for a 25 hour delay. Fun times!
Bruce Dickinson flew me from Heathrow to Hassi Messaoud back in around 2005? when he flew for Astraeus. We were due to fly via British Airways but the flight developed a fault so we were switched to this airline company I had never heard of and out of the approx 30 pax on the flight, I was the only one that was exited that he was the pilot with some people (old oil field workers) asking who Bruce Dickinson was and “Iron Maiden who?”
When you read out the full callsign every time it drive me nuts, please just refer it with the full call sign initially then after that just with the last two alphabets.
I followed this plane during its Tour as Ed Force one listening to the ATC was funny " Did you say Iron Maiden 666?" "Affirmative" "thats pretty cool" think that was at Ft Lauderdale
Saw her in Edmonton in 2016 (that's her behind me in my profile photo). The plane was being towed when it was damaged just to clarify. Here is the pilot's and Iron Maiden's take on this bird: ua-cam.com/video/nwpvoUYaR9U/v-deo.html
Iron Maiden at this point should just get their own plane (once things go back to somewhat normal and they can start touring again)... plenty of younger B777s sitting in the desert that could use a new home... and those definitely have the range and carrying capacity to support a rock band's needs... could have a complete custom interior done, custom registration (G-EDFO ... ED Force One) and they wouldn't have to give up the plane after touring...
Bruce in captains uniform and the rest of the band in regular clothes looks weird. i guess Bruce is such a pro he didn't think maiden t-shirt appropriate. i suggest everyone read his book , 'what does this knob do', great read.
I'd be interested to know how Bruce balanced flying the aircraft with playing in shows. I don't think I'm the only one who thinks that being a commercial pilot and fronting a heavy metal band are generally incompatible career choices. I'm not implying that he's irresponsible when executing his flying duties, especially with respect to drugs and alcohol but more interested with balancing rest time requirements with performing. Anyone have any insight?
A Lancaster bomber would be more apt .but I think posh Rock boy Bruce will find it a bit unrefined to fly .Its crazy how the iron maiden brand has taken off .While bands like killing joke of the same era still going probably would struggle to pay their heating bills today.
I used to work on TF-AAK while she had the Saudi livery, no idea it was an Ed Force One 😳
Lol

I think that this plane is legendary
Even though I’m not an Iron Maiden fan
why do you feel the need to say that
@@JackScooter17 because it is how it is
Why did you feel the need to write your comment?
To me it is: I flew on it professionally, before Iron Maiden bought it.
Me Neither. I'm Not A IRON MAIDEN FAN Neither
Nice to see the Queen of the skies ferry a rock band that popular
And flown by the singer

Bruce is so awesome he’s a pilot, singer, author and many more things

Any Band: “We’re going on a World Tour!”
*proceeds to visit 16 German cities, 5 Nordic cities, Paris and London in the “European” part of the tour*
Not particularly true, they visited many other cities in Europe, including a number of stops in Eastern Europe.
And Asia also
@@TheOwenMajor I think they meant any 'other' band
U forgot Japan, which they call Asia
@@rohanmathew6317 All the cities in Asia, Tokyo and Osaka!
Brilliant idea from an iconic band.
Never knew that the Saudi 747 in my city's airport I saw was the Iron Maiden's plane. So cool!
Saudi - Did you know that this aircraft used to ship metalheads to their own version of Mecca?
It didn't fly to Wacken. .🤘🏻
No, if flew their Mecca to them! ;)
@@stephenbritton9297 You mean you flew our Mohammed. 😉

I got some good photos of Ed Force One on final into YYZ in Toronto.
Awesome... saw this one once at Surabaya Juanda Airport, never knew it was the Iron Maiden former plane...
I seem to remember they were using the callsign "666", and when they handed it on to Saudi they used it to ferry pilgrims to Mecca!
ROFL !!!
No offense meant, but that kind of negates the religious trip !

Iron Maiden? EXCELLENT!
She’s gotta be the second most famous 747 in the air today
Not third after SAM 28000 and 29000? 😋
Saw this at the Vancouver Airport in God knows what year. Parked at the next gate. 2017 maybe. 2015?
Posted 15 days ago on Reddit with a photo - "Ed Force 1 is at Cotswold airport waiting to be scrapped. Go see if your near"
Beautiful plane. Hope it starts flying soon.
My last flight before this pandemic with this aircraft was from dhaka to jeddah as a crew. this was my favorite ones and I miss her so bad !!!!😆🤘
Never flown on Ed Force One (the 747 version) But I've been on board it.
New Pilot: What's this ? (Pulls a joint out from a crack in the overhead panel)
Haha. Yes, I know its a joke, and its funny. But for the record Maiden has forever been a drug-free band. Up the Irons!!

At Sonisphere in the UK he played the Red Baron in a WW1 dogfight reenactment before the show!
Amazing video! I'm also imagining that!
Last known flight was on 15-3-20 when it arrived at Jeddah at 21:39. AFAIK still stored there.
Is now stored at Kemble airfield, arrived there on 19th April 2022.

TF-AAK is a registration. The usual callsign was Atlanta666 or ABD666.
Yay operated this queen while working for AAi and then covid :(

Next year apparently, Covid permitting!
I'm going to go try getting a picture of it. I'm an American and I live in Saudi Arabia
What did they do for transport on the (unfinished - thank you COVID. At least I got to see them first) Legacy of the Beast tour?
When I started this video I did a Google search and at 0:42 I found out it has been stored since March 2020
Which aircraft type will be Iron Maiden's next generation aircraft?
Aces High!
Yeah imagine the Aces high livery on the tail of a 747 👍

You can see that the fuselage has two diameters. It's thinner in front of the wing and thicker behind the wing. This is a feature of the 757.
Yes I have flew this plane from Dhaka to jedda
When i was in surabaya i saw saudia to jeddah i think that plane was TF-AAK
Please cut the repetitive, and unnecessary references to the registration, it really irks!
I know! Why does he insist on saying ‘Tango-Foxtrot-Alpha-Alpha-Kilo every time’? Why not just say TF-AAK?

He wasn't the only pilot. There were 8 in total I believe for the tour. He didn't do all the flying himself.

I saw one of them flying into Osaka International (Osaka's domestic flights only airport), right over me, one time.
The question was, where is it?
In Saudi the last I heard - it was just leased for the tour and handed back at the end of the tour.

Not yet. It's stored in Jeddah. As a relatively young aircraft, only about 17 years, it may well fly again as a freighter.
Bullcrap. Impossible all their stadium show gear fit in a single 747.
They don't take lighting, stage rigging and much of the backline as that is all sourced and supplied locally. Everything else they take.
