    This video is excellent, helped me in exactly what I'm struggling with right now and it's very straight to the point and enlightening. I figured out that we have not much material about Hungarian word order and emphasis on UA-cam and your didactic is very good, that's why this video is quite unique. Thank you very much, hope you keep this work and have success with this channel! Now I am going to share it with everyone. Szia!

    Thank you for making this! I started learning Hungarian a few days ago, because I hardly know anything about my Hungarian great grandfather (Edit: and my Hungarian great great grandfather, who got stuck in the US during WW2, and stayed, which is why I am in the US now!), and this is a way for me to connect to him. I took lots of notes, and I understand much more than I did before. Köszönöm szépen!

    Detaching and switching the verbal prefixes really takes a lot of practice!
    Have you seen the recent Jan and Lucas teaching videos? I think that the building block style works well. e.g. "How do you say?...."
    Even though Lucas is teaching Russian/Spanish/French, I can still use the format to practice Hungarian.
    I wonder if you might do some Hungarian lessons in that format. i.e. make the viewer work as a student.

    The word order in Hungarian is almost free. The article and adjective must come before the noun to which they belong. Everything else depends on the importance of the message. The first term in the sentence is the most important, the last term is the least important. For example, if the object is the most important word in the sentence, then it will be the first word, if it is not essential, then the last word, so the object can be anywhere in the sentence. So how do you know which word is the object in the sentence? From the fact that the word is in the accustive case. This ensures that the speaker can speak freely and can express nuanced differences with the same words that a fixed word order would make impossible. This makes the language expressive. So the Hungarian word order: First most important phrase in the sentence, second most important phrase in the sentence, third most important phrase in the sentence, ... , least important phrase in the sentence.

    Hi. Well done on the video. There is a point in Hungarian grammar that I haven't been able to find an explanation for. It is something like the following:
    vannak-e.
    The -e is attached to the end of a verb, and it usually seems to be a question, but I can't really work out what role the -e plays and when it is needed. Could you please help me understand this? Thanks for reading.

    Why does megyem vagyom etc not exist and how do I know if the definite form exists or not

    • @csabasalzinger4566
      @csabasalzinger4566 11 місяців тому +1

      Hi, verbs that express "motion" or "existence" cannot be conjugated with the definite form. Purely Intransitive Verbs never take a direct object because they answer a question like where?, when?, how?, or how long?
      If it answers ( Hol / Hova ?, Mikor ?, Hogy/ Hogyan?, Meddig ?) ------> no direct object ------> indefinite conjugation
      "megy", "jön",... ( to go, to come,...) are always conjugated with the indefinite form ("vagyok", "megyek", "jövök" ... ) because the lack of a direct object.
      Existence ( "van" " lenni") is something that happens rather than something that someone can do. ("not doable")
      -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      Action verbs that express "doable activity" are conjugated with
      a) definite form if you have a definite direct object. ( Definite articles, Proper - and Personal nouns, Reflective - , Reciprocal - and Possessive pronouns make definite direct objects)
      b) indefinite form if you have an indefinite direct object. ( Indefinite articles, Numbers, No article before the object +t, Indefinite - and Question pronouns make indefinite direct objects)
      Analysis:
      1. ) Do you have a direct object ?
      * If it answers ( Kit ?, Mit ?, Kiket ?, Miket? ) , so object (= noun )+ t is present------> direct object (Tip: Object translates to " Tárgy " in hungarian. So " It's t for tárgy ! ")
      ( Who ? What ? Whom ? )
      2. ) Is it definite / indefinite ? (Tip: Objects are most likely to be nouns. So check articles first ! Is there one ? What kind is it ? Word order ?
      Not lucky? : - Is it a Proper-, or Personal noun ?,... ( Budapest +et, Magyarország +ot, Péter +t, Kata +'t,...) Upper case ?
      - Is it an indefinite pronoun? ,... (vala + ki/mi +t, - some...one/thing
      - Which group is it ? .... bár + ki/mi + t - who / what...ever
      - Does it feel like indefinite ? 🙂 akár + ki/mi +t - any....one/ thing
      minden + ki +t - everyone
      minden + t - everything
      .... )
      if object = infinitive ( verb + ni) ---> indefinite conjugation ( Tudok számolni. - I can calculate. Tudok úszni. - I can swim. ) { As I know how to do something}
      Solution a)
      ----> definite direct object -----> definite conjugation Examples: ( Látom a macskát. - I can see the cat. Látom a macskámat. - I can see my cat.
      Látom azt a három macskát. - I can see those three cats. Látom az enyémet - I can see mine....)
      Solution b)
      ----> indefinite direct object --> indefinite conjugation Examples: ( Látok egy macskát. - I can see a cat. Látok három macskát. - I can see three cats.
      Macskát látok. - No article !
      Látok valami(féle) macskát. - I can see some (kind of) cat.
      Látok néhány macskát. - I can see a few ("some") cats.,....)
      Mit látok ? - What do I see ?
      * It does not answer ( Kit ?, Mit ?, Kiket ?, Miket? ) ------> No direct object ------> indefinite conjugation ( As examples given on the top )
      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      Exception: when the subject is " Én" , and the object is " Te" or " Ti". In this case it is neither.
      Example: "látni" [Inf.] - to see
      root: Lát [verb]
      ( Present tense, First Person)
      (Én) Látom magamat - I can see myself
      (Én) Látlak téged - I can see you [ (Én) Látom Önt - I can see you ( formal) ]*
      (Én) Látom őt - I can see him/her
      (Én) Látom magunkat - i can see ourselves
      (Én) Látlak titeket - I can see you [ (Én) Látom Önöket - I can see you ( formal) ]*
      (Én) Látom őket - I can see them
      *Note that in the case of "formal you" the conjugation follows rule (a) [ definite ]. ( Ön +t, Önök + et, so +t is present ! )
      On the other hand in "I/2 and II/2 informal" it is "verb + lak" or "verb + lek" according to vowel harmony. ( Téged ,....+t is not present, however Titeket +t is sort of present)
      ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      tud [verb] inf.: tudni - can (As to know how to), to know [ Tudom (ezt/ azt) - I know it / that ]
      számol [verb] inf. számolni - to calculate
      úszik [verb] inf. úszni - to swim ( In case of verbs ending - ik we get rid of -ik and substitute - ni , rather than adding it to create infinitives ! )
      macska [noun] - cat
      három [number] - three , 3
      a/ az - [definite article] - the
      azok / ezek [definite article] - those / these
      egy - [indefinite article] - a / an
      vala-..., bár-..., akár-...., minden-.... [indefinite pronouns]
      Budapest [proper noun]
      Péter [proper noun]

    What's the difference between mikor and amikor?

    • @korneliaikrenyi7212
      @korneliaikrenyi7212 7 місяців тому

      The meaning is similar. But the “amikor” you can’t use when you want to ask something. You have to use “MIKOR”. Mikor is commonly used in question sentences when you are asking about when the activity happened like: When will you go home? = Mikor mész haza?
      The “AMIKOR” you can use just when you state something. You use “amikor” when you know clearly “when gonna happen something”.
      Amikor used in positive sentences, in past tense it's similar to "when" in past continuous sentences in english, like "Amikor hazaértem, anya főzött." it can express activities that happened nearly at the same time or at the same time and in present tense it can express a habit, like: "Amikor teát iszom, cukrot rakok bele."
      When i will finish my work. = Amikor befejezem a munkámat.
      You can also use mikor in positive sentences but it's more unnatural i think :)
