I was in Jackman, ME, I’m 65 and totality was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. The drive home, which normally takes two hours, took six and I would do it again without hesitation.
People always seem to find something to complain about. That traffic sounds terrible. You still got pretty colors on an epic summit with a friend! Sounds like a great way to spend a day!
Took me 4.5 hours from New Haven CT to Montpelier Vt and 8 hours on the way back. Worth every minute of driving it was a valuable life experience to see totality

Eclipse your own eclipse! I live in Boston and chose to watch from a state park only about 20 minutes from home that was at 93%. Still super cool, and allowed me to avoid traffic, not be somewhere super crowded, and fit within my schedule this week.
Having seen the 2017 from Connecticut, we decided to go for totality and view it from Colebrook, NH. We stayed two nights in Gotham and drove to Colebrook from Gorham very early in the morning without traffic. In the way back we went via Dixville notch and Mahoosic notch encountering heavy traffic in a couple of area. We got back to Gotham around 8:30 PM. You would have had more traffic than we did so your decision was sound.
My son and I were also in Colebrook!! Great view.
I watched it from a park in my little town in Massachusetts. (93% totality) It was amazing! No traffic…No people…When it was over, I was home in 5 minutes!

I'm 74 years old. Watched it on TV from southern NH. My daughter lives in Bethlehem. She said traffic was insane and still heavy at 11 PM.
Left Pittsburg at 3:40pm. Got home to Nashua at 5am

At 64 years old, and a resident of S. Nahamsha I decided this was probably my only chance to see totality. We have a p[ace near Gorham and planned a long weekend of it. We knew there would be traffic but we brought our own food and water. We went up rt. 16 and stopped near the Pontook reservoir. It was an awesome thing to witness! The drive back to Gorham was just under 4 !/2 hours though. No regrets. Your experience on the ridge looked awesome too! If Were younger I might have done something like that. Thanks for sharing
Yeah.. I'll gladly drive 12 hours anywhere for that again. 99% and totality are two very different experiences

I was in dallas tx. In the path of totality. It was so awesome. But it was not from the top of a mountain. So good for you for seeing it how you wanted to!
You enjoyed the eclipse and shared your experience with others and that is what it is all about. In 2017, I lived about an hour's drive (in normal traffic) away from the line of totality and did the same as you--- opted for a place outside of the crowds and where I would not get stuck in post-eclipse traffic. I had a lovely eclipse experience at a local park, with people from all walks of life and all ages. The sun was 97% covered where I was at the time.
I saw it about 15 miles south of Portland Maine. It was totally sureal and I enjoyed every minute. I was all set with fighting traffic to get totality also. The temp dropped 11 degrees at its greatest coverage. I actually got some pics by putting the glasses over my phone camera. You experienced something amazing at an incredible location, and IMO missed absolutely nothing, Taylor. 😊 Your friends snowmen and the Nahamsha burp were comedic gold. 😂 Great video and thank you! ✌️

Just being on the top of a mountain is amazing! I was able to see the eclipse in totality in Missouri, but I would trade that for the top of the Whites!❤
My son and I journeyed to Colebrook NH, a little West of where you observed the event. My hiking is unfortunately curtailed due to a pending knee replacement so we opted for the "close to car" experience. I'm glad you got to experience the eclipse on your terms and in the site you chose. Let the naysayers "neigh", HYOH. I believe I read that the only site on the AT that was in the path of totality was Katahdin, I certainly can't imagine you would find anything resembling solitude there (even if the peak was open) I concur on the 11 hour retreat from New England (in my case to NJ) During the totality, I was struck by two random thoughts: 1) I could see how an eclipse could terror to our primitive ancestors and 2) The phenomenal math skills or less primitive ancestors developed to predict times and paths prior the the advent of the computer!! Great report! I kind of wondered what the view of the valley from the whites would have looked like: Thanks for the report.

I was in totality up in Pittsburg, NH for the eclipse. It was unbelievably amazing and I’ll definitely try to experience it again. Your view from the ridge was absolutely gorgeous! The change in temperature was really wild. Overall I think we completely lucked out in New Hampshire because everyone was saying that April 8th was historically a cloudy day. I even got a sunburn.

I live in Franklin and went to Colebrook to view the eclipse. It was a great day with family. However, it did take 8 hours to drive home even though I avoided Franconia Notch.

It was a beautiful clear day you could feel the temperature drop and it reached about sunset level darkness. Yes Totality would have been perfect, but this was pretty awesome!

I drove to Lyndonville, VT to see 100%. Was worth it. We scrambled for the highway as soon as it started getting light again and the commute home was only 1 hour longer due to traffic since we were in front of the "wave" heading south. People who left later had much longer rides.
I took my grands, and watched 84% totality. It was still cool! In 2017: we had 94%! It’s still a great experience. Maybe your critics all enjoy being stuck in traffic. Ugh - not me!
I watched the 93.9% eclipse from my back yard in a suburb of Chicago, and I thought it was pretty amazing. Your hike and the eclipse up in the mountains with a 360-degree view was beyond awesome!!! So glad you shared it!
I could not think of a better place than Franconia Ridge! I would love to live that close. My favorite place on the AT!

Nice hike episode on the eclipse. I will never think of an Oreo the same again. We did 95% in MA but did 100% years ago in Columbia SC. Traffic leaving 100% area then was outrageous. Thanks for your coverage.

Personally, I went Gananoque Ontario to experience totality. Knew NY would be a madhouse. Totality is incredible! Saw it in 2017 and again this time around. I think 99.4% on a beautiful summit with a few folks is a great way to experience the event.

Watched from the summit of a mountain in the Adirondacks near the center of the path of totality. So lucky to have zero traffic there or back from where I live, though the summit was as busy as a summer weekend. Seriously, if you have the chance one day to make it to a path of 100% totality, you'll be blown away at the difference from even 99.99%. Seeing the corona and solar flares of the sun with my naked eyes was so much more beautiful than I could've imagined. Glad you got the experience you were looking for, and thanks for bringing us along!

I did experience the total eclipse on the east shore of Lake Ontario. Was amazing but a bit cloudy. Took 9 hours to get home from a normal 4 1/2 hour drive.

Where I watched the eclipse it was 95 percent. It was good for me. I had no desire to get stuck in traffic. You had an amazing view from that mountain. So glad you combined hiking with your eclipse view. As you love hiking.
I watched from NYC which was 90%. The best part was the communal experience. Everyone was outside looking up.

I thought it was actually very cool that it was obviously dark over there, but you turn around and it looks like normal daytime. I am in Chicago so we only got to 94% here, still very cool and I didn't have to sit in traffic either.
Any eclipse whether partial or full is very cool. We only had 85% in my part of PA but it was still cool to watch and feel the temp change. You had a great hike and perfect spot to watch from. It's a shame people can't keep their negativity to themselves.
We saw the eclipse in Upstate New York and I was super surprised how little traffic there was!! I was so nervous but nah it wasn’t bad at all

In New York we saw partial and it was still really cool. Crazy how it shows with the eclipse glasses but not on camera. I thought the same thing. Happy trails.🤘🏻🥾⛰️
I agree you might have missed the totality, but you also missed the several hours of traffic that followed. i viewed the eclipse in northern Vermont, and i left at 8pm, and didn't get home in southern NH till 2am, but i ended up going through Crawford notch to avoid it. If i knew better i would have waited till the next day. For me the traffic literally eclipsed the eclipse itself lol. A lot of people from out of state didn't understand Franconia notch goes down to one lane and that made for a huge back up. I think you had a great view regardless and still a cool experience overall.
Hopefully. By the time they hiked down there might already have been cars arriving from Lancaster and points North

I think your view was amazing; this is one of my favorite hikes. We went up to Northern Vermont in the line of totality, without the crowds. I think you made an awesome choice. I also saw the sunset view. The whole thing was just awesome.
2017 we watched 99% from our backyard. My kids were so disappointed we didn’t see totality and made me promise they could see totality this time around. We went camping in Ohio, approximately 4 hours from our home. Totality was definitely cool, but honestly if we hadn’t combined it with a camping trip, I’d have been fine. My kids thought it was cool too but if we had driven up 4 hours that morning and then come home that night it would not have been worth it.

I’m still crying about how I’ve been waiting 7 years for this eclipse after missing it in 2017 but it was so cloudy where I was Monday that we couldn’t see the sun at all during totality 😭 you had a better view than we did in full cloud cover, I wanted to see the 360° sunset and we did not.
Austin, Texas, was in the path of totality, too. We got to see it from our own house. Unfortunately the sky that day was predicted to be covered with clouds. But luckily for us, a hole in the clouds opened right at the time of the eclipse! It was so cool! The photosensitive street lights came on and birds flocked to their night time roosting spots. We were so lucky that the eclipse was on Monday and not Tuesday, because Tuesday was super stormy with thunderstorms and full cloud cover.
I enjoyed your tik tok and this video. Such a cool view. We went to the totality area closest to us. It was an amazing experience. We were fortunate to not experience traffic there or home. It was something we worried about and almost stayed home. Ultimately it worked out for us but that isn’t always the case. I’m glad you stuck to your guns.

We saw totality in Middlebury, VT which is about 40 minutes north from where I live in VT. We didn't experience any traffic issues, but I would have sat in hours of traffic to get just one more minute to experience totality - it was incredible. With that said, some people just didn't see it as anything they needed to chase and that's fine, it doesn't impact me in any way. It's unfortunate you had people griefing you about your choice. It looks like it was a beautiful day and a fun hike - you got what you wanted, so that's all that matters! Thank you for sharing!

It looks so spectacular! I saw totality from a roadside field in Morristown VT. My family and I took less traveled roads from Lebanon NH. The normally 1.5 hour drive back took 3.5 hours with 2 brief stops, but we left right after the eclipse, avoided interstate highways and only had a couple of real slowdowns.
Good for you!! My friend and I headed up to Dome Rock and no one else was there. The experience was amazing and was able to head back to Maine with only a little traffic coming out of the Wildcats. Love the Oreo cookie demo!!! 😊😊
I was doing a long section hike on day of the last eclipse and was on Franconia Ridge! I didn’t even know it was happening. It was absolutely amazing. Glad you went to see this one. Signage
I enjoyed your video, the weather really cooperated for most everybody. I left Jackson NH with my son at about 1:50pm and arrived at Danville VT scenic outlook on route 2 with a view of the whites about 3:15pm to meet up with my daughter and her friend. I had to wait until my son got home from school to depart. We had no traffic delays on the way and only about 15 minutes extra going home via route 93 & 302. It definitely was worth the drive for the totality view. I know a lot of people who went north on route 16 who spent hours going home. I think we just lucked out going west instead of north. Traffic looked bad around St Johnsbury with lots of cars pulled over all around.

I live in Maine and was in DC during the eclipse - had a great experience for what I visited for (obvi nothing related to the eclipse) and literally don’t care that I “missed out.” It’s funny how people get so emotionally escalated during events like this. Main thing is - next week people won’t talk about it anymore and it will be on the the next thing.
One of your most fun (funny) videos! At the 7:30 mark in your video...was that a meteor coming in through the sky? We live in the Finger Lakes Region of Central New York State, not in the path of totality, but just below it. It was complete cloud cover and it got really dark and greenish!

Eastern PA. We weren't in the path. I took lunch at 230 and it was full sun. Clouds rolled in just before it occurred. We did get to see it partially covered for a few minutes. If I had off, I definitely would have went to totality.

My home near Columbus was four miles from totality, so I drove a short distance to a nearby state park. I sat by myself on the banks of a lake to watch, and it turned out to be the single coolest thing I've ever seen. It would have been even better with oreos.
I was backpacking Isle Royale on August 21, 2017 when we had an eclipse. It was strange because everything got very quiet as it got dark. And it was an eerie ambient light. Was it total? I’m not sure but it was dark enough for me.
It looked like a good time for you and your friend. Any time in nature is good 👍
I live in RI the weather channel said the temp would drop 9 degrees. Nope. I guess it was only 90% but I thought that would be noticeable. Nope if I didn't know better I'd have figured a cloud went by. Felt bad that I didn't drive up to NH until I heard about the traffic.
That was perfect I say no to traffic.
I watched it from Watatic in MA. I had the day off for months. But life happened and I am also happy I did not go up North as I didn't have a sub for the next day and well, my kids are, um, unique. Not too many people, no traffic either way. Still an awesome time. And yes, I was happy to have my XTherm and quilt. My friend said there was still traffic up north at 6am on Tuesday.
The eclipse experience isn't completely about what you saw. Where you were and who you were with made the experience complete. Eclipse your eclipse!

I live in NW Pennsylvania just slightly out of the path of totality. I went in the woods behind my house not so much to watch the eclipse but to witness the events associated with it. They say that birds will stop chirping and an eerie stillness will take place. Not so here. The birds continued to sing and the neighbor’s rooster crowed the whole time. It did get pretty dark but no more so than when there’s cloud cover. So, let’s see …… 2045 …… I’ll be 84 years old. Nah , I’m not going out west at that age. I’m glad you had fun with this. Double Stuff Oreos would have made the demonstration more realistic. LOL.
