Years ago i used to take high school kids winter camping on 4-day trips between the Kancamagus and 302 thru Zealand notch. On one trip, we headed for the Kanc from the Zealand hut with more overnight snow than expected and still snowing. Visibility was horrible. Some were on skis and leaders on snow shoes to break trail. we got about a half mile from the hut and made the decision that this was developing into more than we prepared for. We went back to the hut. "Safety Over Summit" is a great phrase. In this case the summit was a goal. We chose Safety over Goal. We always used stories like your series to discuss preparedness to students and deal with the unexpected situation.
Have you considered gear reviews. You're one of the more trusted hikers/people out there. Your thoughts on equipment, gear, clothes would be so important. Love the used gear trade in / trade up idea, would love to see you finish the 82 or 83 miles of the 2023 AT hike. I know 8ts not that important, but it would be fun to see you on trail, but also with Chet and baby girl ( and Cali too). I'm a huge fan so whatever life takes you, will be fun. The store, the trails, whatever. P.s. I do like the rescue videos too. Motherhood means adjustments, and you are doing great. 😊
Safety over summits would be such a cool idea. It would actually be really interesting to hear from people who were in those situations and how they coped with it, like just getting positive affirmation from other people that you're not 'giving up' - you're saving a life (yours).
Taylor - you have me hooked. I began watching you in 2023 on your thru hike. You are an inspiring person with what you accomplish whether it be to support yourself or to raise funds and awareness for others. Your life has changed since 2023. Preparing videos that reflect your passion be it news updates, hikes or family camping, because they reflect you, they will be successful. Communicate your heart and you’ve got this.
Congratulations on the birth of your daughter, wishing you all the best!!! Your channel and mission statement rings true to this hiker, and I think you're going to be great regardless of the YT path you ultimately choose. I'm an Out West hiker, but currently live on the East Coast. I really appreciate your videos and knowledge of the Appalachian Trail and look forward to your future videos. Here's to an excellent 2025 🍾!!! 👍💪✌
Taylor this was a great video! Very informative and thanks so much for making it... I do like your search and rescue videos but I do enjoy your hiking videos and your camping videos much much more ... And I think you should go back and finish those 82 miles of the AT! Like you said, bring the family down there & maybe the camper and have a great old time... I'm guessing you could probably make 5-7 videos of that adventure alone and of course we would all love them lol.... Sounds like a great year ahead so I'm wishing you, your family and all of your viewers the very best!!! 🥰👍👏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I live at the base of Blue Job mountain, on the Strafford side. My husband and I set a goal to hike to the summit of Little Blue Job (more bang for your buck in terms of views than the Blue Job summit, though minus the fire tower) every Sunday this year. Maybe we’ll get lucky and run into you. Happy hiking! 😊
Love my Burgeon Highlander Hoody. Good for you for stocking their apparel. it's always good (for me at least) to hear a different perspective, an update, or background, etc. on the search and rescue stories. Being reminded to respect the power of Mother Nature and heed her warnings keeps us humble and safe. Am impressed with your initiatives!
I enjoy the rescue episodes! I do think it would be nice to have some follow-up on some of them. Like maybe invite one of them to be on a video w/ you so we can hear their side of what happened. Love all your videos and ideas about the search & rescue teams:)
Hi Taylor, I feel that the rescue stories are important to hear and contain valuable lessons. However I agree that they can become redundant just based on the repetitive nature of the stories. Maybe you could just pare them down to ones that are distinct in some way, and just reduce the frequency of these videos. Great job and thanks.
You asked. I don't want to sound negative at all, but I'm a regular listener to the SLASR podcast, so I don't really watch your YT vids about weather rescues. They seem the same. I DO love every single other video you do. I'd love to see more camping with the family and what would be cooler than doing a series of the New Hampshire 4000 footers? You hiking each of those with tips and strategies would be awesome. I live in South Carolina and will never get to do that, so living it vicariously through you would be so excellent!
You should do a "cottage brand corner" of your gear shop! That would be super cool. That way I could give you half my paycheck instead of garage grown gear. A used gear sale is also an awesome idea. I have so much stuff that I only used once or twice and it just didn't work for me and it just sits in a box. That doesn't mean it wouldn't work for someone else!
Re: the rescue videos, maybe just cover ones that are unique in some way. I'm sure there are lessons to be learned from all of them but it must be tedious to try to cover all of them. Do what is interesting to you. You do such a great job! 👍
Love both your channels-hiker and gift shop! Such a balanced view of hiker-life, work and family! Thanks for being transparent and allowing us along your journey. Being a list maker myself your goals for 2025 are incredibly interesting and can’t wait to watch you check them off!! Any AT news, updates on hurricane damage repairs, 2025 thru hikers and events would be awesome. As an AT hiker spouse, I often travel to the surrounding areas to give support and hike a few miles of the more accessible trails and views. Highlighting some of those locations in NH (or anywhere on AT) would be interesting! Would love to get pointers on being a “trail angel” and some trail angel etiquette, best/worst experiences :) Best wishes for you and yours in 2025!
You could make videos on hiking with babies & children. Those hikes would mostly be shorter day hikes … and might not meet your Strava goals. Cover gear that kids & babies require. I followed a person who did hike with her children & babies. She stopped producing content. I don’t see UA-cam content involving families who hike & camp although I have other interests that occupy my algorithm. Good luck!
You should try and get Fresh Ground to come to your Hiker Meet-Up. He could set up like a food truck and everyone buy their lunch from him. Then you could interview him for one of your videos.
Good video update. As far as the search and rescue series-->I have enjoyed so far. Maybe to finish it off just include the more involved/dangerous ones. Couple that with the lesson learned of each event. The Safety Over Summit has a lot of potential. I would be interested in how the S+R groups function. Also how the conservation wardens function. Are they on call 24/7? Do they get OT? You are on the right path and asking the right questions in my opinion.
I go camping with my family and would be interested to see content focused on family camping and hiking. What gear do you need with a baby? How has your gear choices changed as your family has grown? And I have been looking at teardrops so more videos on your camper and how you pack it would be very informative. Looking forward to 2025 and to your upcoming adventures!
Hi Taylor, I like the first video on the rescues a lot and wanted to see more; but then I did get bored with the others. Sorry. Maybe just pop them in sporadically during the year? I have always loved watching all the different aspects of your videos and will continue to follow your journey; wherever the path leads you. 💜
Thanks for the update - it would be great to see you finish those 82 miles of the AT. You will find a new balance in life now you have a child - it takes some time but you will get there! All the best for 2025.
Like I said before your parents should be proud having a kid and running a business is no easy task .I think your ideas are good just go for it trial and error some will work some might not . No big deal at the end of the day .Good luck on your journey . Just be yourself.
Taylor, I don’t watch your videos in the store much. I have watched a couple. I like when you share a day in the store and when you and your dog go on short hikes. I liked the video of you and your family going on the camping trip. All those were great! I’m not a hiker but I enjoy going along with you. 😊
I can understand having different niches inside the same channel. I started power-walking to remain moving. I started recording my walks for myself to use on my treadmill. I use my treadmill because I noticed people aim at you with their cars when you walk on the road and I dislike walking outside during buggy seasons. I just started uploading them as an experiment and they do better than my hiking/adventure videos. YES on the used gear shop! Hike On, Taylor. Hope to run into somewhere in NH.
What a year you had in 2024! I forgot about the Bushwacker! I like the hiking news, but you are the content creator we've all come to love. If you're not happy, we're not happy. 😁 I can't wait to see what goals you'll reach in 2025. 👏 Thank you for the update; very informative. Take care Nahamsha ✌️
Taylor this was a marvelous video and well executed. I might agree the accident hiker vlog can be tedious and seem repetitive so maybe a shorten version reflecting a theme or of what caused the accident and then just mention the number of incidence with a link for subscribed to get greater quantity and/or deeper details. I think if you were able to make some contacts with 2025 Thru Hikers that you interview near the beginning of their NoBo, Flip-flopper & a SoBo and check in with them from time to time. Definitely do Trail Days for a few reasons; for your Business promotion, Aldo to shed light and support on the Thru Hiker support Community coming back after the hurricanes and flooding, plus just interviewing some hikers that you know have been notable in past Thru Hike seasons and had blogs on the trail. Then, if you were to get up to the Highlands to see the ponies or things like that on day hikes with your familythat would be interesting; other than that hikes around your own local community that you might take with your baby or your mother or your husband or just a fellow hiker where you talk about hiking and what it means I am so drawn to the Hikeing community after watching bloggers like yourself and I’m as much interested in the community and the people that make it up, as I am with the adventure, and seeing the outdoors. We live in a very Dubai country and showing how people can work together who can find the common interest, the common good that we share which outweigh our differences in the negative. This is a huge help mentally to the people of this country. I thoroughly love your business Vlogs and hope you will continue them. Looking forward to watching and following you in 2025… I might just be one of those thru hikers. ❤😊
Used gear shop! GREAT IDEA! But warning, I have a friend who has a consignment shop and she is often overwhelmed with the amount of stuff dropped off ! (time consuming) Great video Taylor 😁
I like watching the news & your hikes! What about interviewing future hikers? I love to learn more about the new hikers that start the new hiking season every year.
Hello Taylor, it's good to see you again! Your right babies do change things in life but it looks like you're adjusting quite well. It's the same with getting older and having children and grandchildren. Things in life change and your priorities change as time goes by. Everything you've said is important and I hope you'll continue making your videos. I think I'd love to see you do the camping, hiking video of your extra miles if you feel up to it. I really enjoy your time with the camper and your baby and husband. If not that's fine to. You're doing really well as a new Mom and you look healthy and fit. Thanks for the update! Be careful, stay safe and enjoy your new baby. 💝
Thanks for the update. Congrats on the baby and for the healed toe. About your camper: Does the door have a screen so you can sleep with the door open?
I have a daily step goal of 10,000 steps. Last year I didn't make it, but we also. lost our dog Lola of 16 years, she was my best buddy and walking partner. And it was hard for me to go back to parks and trails that we would go to. I'm going to push my self this year to get back out there. I also purchased at Walking Pad X 21. it folds up to the size of a large suitcase, and I can roll it to any room or even our back screened in porch. It might come I handy for you at your shop, when business is slow. Love your videos. ❤
Enjoyed this update. Life changes with a baby, but I've enjoyed the content you've put out since having her, even if what you can do is sometimes different. Also, I've ordered LMNT from your link multiple times. I'm a fan of the LMNT hot chocolate after winter hikes!
Hey Taylor! On the news videos, as a viewer who isn’t from New Hampshire I tend to skip those because they don’t feel relevant since I have no ties to NH. The lower views probably speak to how niche those videos are in an already-niche community rather than the quality or content
Previews of coming attractions - nice. Lots of balls in the air, but don't spread yourself too thin. You're still young, so do it while you can - that way, you'll have great memories and no regrets when you grow old(like me). Still like the S&R stuff - every one is different, due to the nature of the terrain(area, trail, conditions, etc.)and the extent of injuries and rescue operations. Shop looks great. Be well, stay safe. 🥾
Long time no see. Hope all is going well and it was good seeing you again on here. Congrats on the new addition to your life. I look forward to seeing your next video, Happy Trails!!! -Acorn
Your life has changed since you had a baby as it should, whatever works for you and family is all that matters. Nice variety this year. Like the rescue stories, the decision of safety over summit could include interviews with hikers not so famous who can describe those situations.
Maybe visit some of the towns that are by a lot of these different hiking trails or skiing areas that. are in New Hampshire. and tell people what the towns have to offer in the way of hiking help and skiing help.
Im not a fan of the rescues…Im retired from law enforcement and have had enough of similar types. I love your hikes…and your shop its very charming and cool. I want to visit the next time Im up north. Keep doing Taylor! I love the used gear sale idea!!🥰🥾🥾😎⛺️
Taylor, I'm just curious if you ever thought of doing the Patreon thing??? It seems like most UA-camrs do that... You know I'd give you a few bucks every month for your efforts lol 😂👍👏🏻👏🏻
I noticed Pawtuckaway on the Fire Tower list. That's actually a really cool hike as it's one of two extinct volcanic craters in NH. You can see the crater if you look on a topo map. It's fun and it's only a 6.5 mile loop to do the whole rim including the Fire Tower.
.. Your video's and trail and gear info are always positive and informative to watch .... But now is the time to focus on your family .. Husbands need time with you and a happy and healthy child is most important ,, which this time frame only goes around once ... Nothing wrong with homebody for family growth ... constant on the go is physically and mentally demanding not to mention the financial expenses ... Always enjoy you topics and experiences ,, maybe some kind of homebased format , like all the podcast sites that have come out .. Stay Safe ...
I would love to see more gear at the store. We definitely need a gear store in the area. It would be awesome to see some sort of gear consignment kinda deal in the future. For locals trying to get rid of gear they don't use anymore, obviously you take a small profit.
First, when you mentioned the ads on your channel, you were cut off by an ad. What timing! I think you should finish up the SAR 2024 stories just so people can hear about what they go through over the course of a year. After that I'd just do the news report. Doing those miles in Maine is up to you but I think it is a good idea. Hiking events sound cool but you could also have demos or workshops on things like new equipment, packing your gear, first aid, youth events, etc. I also like your AT step comparison idea. It'll be like a little game for yourself. Hopefully you can find some time to hit a few real trails though too!😊 I'm gonna have to find some time for that myself! Keep posting!
Great idea, 1000 miles in 2025. I don’t run but I hike and walk. You have inspired me to join you in 2025 to hike/walk 1000miles. Hopefully this inspires others!
Using LMNT raises the salinity of your water helping to prevent it from freezing in your bottle. Brain freeze is thing though when you chug the super cold water.
congratulations , really love your channel . i just like simple day hikes and other interesting close to home adventures . Kelly hayes and beer in beau. places do a nice job , like you , of covering lots of fun close to home adventures . reality of life is not going to let many people to do monster thru hikes year round . including your baby and hubby would be fun also . happy trails
I think I watch pretty much every hiking video, but I rarely watch the news sort of videos. I just am not someone who is out there myself. So I'm not looking to research or keep up on it too intimately. I do enjoy the personal stuff, hikes, shop work / tour type things are really fun. Is all the data you gathered from your watch?
Hi Taylor, I love all your videos! Have you ever considered doing a series geared towards the white mountains as it pertains to the AT? I know for myself as we plan for 2026, the white mountains are still making me a little nervous 😬 I know once it gets closer and I have the guides etc I’ll have more details but I’d love to see the nitty gritty stuff like closet bail out hostels/towns if you have to turn around, breakdown of miles from bottom of trail to first camp sites, how far from there to the huts, what weather stats should we be making decisions not to attempt etc. it would be a good way also to talk about your rescue information??? I know I would watch them, probably two or three times lol since this is the area that I really want to be most prepared for and that we may have family members trying to meet up and hike with us.
In my early 60's I set a goal to walk, run, bike, golf or swim 1000 miles in 12 months. It took me 13 months but I did it! Go get ' em! I watch most of the hiking news videos but wonder if you could sprinkle in stories from other locations?
Perhaps you can do fewer rescue videos or group them by theme. I really like giving the shout-out to rescue groups many of which are volunteer. I imagine it’s hard to strike the balance between making money vs. the public service message of safety over summit.
I love the idea of a used gear sale. I would totally love to participate in that! And my husband and I have been watching your rescue videos and love them, but I get that you feel it's repetitive. Maybe next time only hitting the ones that were worthy of mentioning for whatever reason.
Would love a shirt with "Safety over Summits" on it. You could create a whole line of products around the phrase with items such as a compass, maps, hats, gloves, raingear etc. If it's not already taken you might want to trademark the phrase from a business perspective.
You might also consider creating a non-profit organization or LLC called "Safety over Summits" to partner with your local search and rescue organization to offers safe hiking courses and raise funds. Consider reserving the web domain name for the future if you decide to really put your passion into creating a resource for hikers. Consider something like an impulse buy at the register such as a candy or trail mix in a bag with the phrase and safe hiking tips on the packaging since not everyone needs more gear or t-shirts but everyone loves snacks. Consider developing "Safety over Summits" into a brand with an impact. You have a great opportunity to really run with the idea, create a brand within your business or develop a whole new one, raise awareness, and make a positive impact on the safety of hikers.
No disrespect intended and I totally get the importance of family and the restrictions it places on people, but for me being in Australia I don’t find the local content and rescue stories relevant to me, especially on a weekly basis. That’s the reason I haven’t been watching them, I love your hiking vlogs and that’s the content I want to watch, but again I understand the restrictions you are under. Just giving you my perspective 😊
Taylor! What a great video! Can you trademark Safety over Summits? Just a thought. I would buy a shirt with that on it for sure. I have definitely picked safety over summiting a fourteener summit even though I was so close! I really like your idea about the miles and AT idea. All of your idea's about the shop and channels sound great. I do wish you had more items in your shop that weren't just NH related. Hiking related in general or outdoor type sayings. I think so many people that watch your channel would like to buy stickers, games, clothing etc if it wasn't state specific. SO many of us follow you that want to support you. In reference to the rescue stories, they do become redundant. Someone mentioned paring them down to the ones that are distinct in some way. That sounded like a good idea. Maybe do those stories once a quarter? As for questions for you...I want to hear more about what happened to your toe. When they removed the toenail , will it grow back or is that permanent? What was growing underneath ? I am glad you are feeling better. I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for sharing.
I feel the hiking rescues end up with too many people chiming in and debasing the person who needs rescuing. I wouldn’t want my rescue analyzed. They do get boring after awhile. My fave videos of yours was the AT hike and all the troubles you had and overcoming them. I’d like to see more hiking ability and how to do steeps, because my limit and ability goes as far as Mt. Major.
Can you please do the hiker meet up on a weekend? Some of us work and can’t go on a Wednesday at 10am. 💁🏼♀️ so it would be nice to have it on a day that could include more of us. Just a suggestion ❤
I’m mostly interested in hiking. Do not like the search and rescue. It’s boring and monotonous. Also thoroughly sick of hearing about LMNT. It’s not sugar free. There are up to 550 mgs of maltodextrin in each serving and maltodextrin is a sugar. Would love to see you do the remainder of the AT.
How about a webinar on vlogging. You videos on this subject are awesome, but I am still struggling. I would pay $$ to be to take a deep dive and be able to ask questions while performing different steps like doing thumbnails. (You make it seem so simple on the video). I bet I’m not the only one that would jump at the chance.
Take comments with a grain of salt. When asked to give an opinion, of course the die hard watchers will comment and agree but commenters are usually on a very small portion of the views and have no stake in the financial outcome. View count is really the better metric to use when planning future videos.
Awww that's so sweet of her!🥰 I am sitting down by the lake, eating pizza for lunch and reading the newspaper and then all of a sudden my phone lights up & it's Taylor! Yay!!! 😂👍👏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I watch all of your videos…except the NH hiking news. It just doesn’t appeal to me 🤷🏻♀️ being from the south. A used gear sale “yard sale” style where people could rent tables in parking lot would be a fun vlog. Personally I would like to see you “complete” the 2023 thru hike…
Years ago i used to take high school kids winter camping on 4-day trips between the Kancamagus and 302 thru Zealand notch. On one trip, we headed for the Kanc from the Zealand hut with more overnight snow than expected and still snowing. Visibility was horrible.
(time consuming)
Great video Taylor 😁
I like the weather parts, but not so much the rescues. I have always loved the day hike videos. I have taken many of these hikes because of you.
I love all your thoughts, dreams and goals!
I like watching the news & your hikes! What about interviewing future hikers? I love to learn more about the new hikers that start the new hiking season every year.
You are inspiring. Thank you for the update.
I honestly enjoy anything you vlog about Taylor. I hope to visit your store one day. Maybe for your next meetup😃. Happy trails.🤘🏻🥾⛰️
Been listening to all your past Trail tales episodes because I’m hoping to thru hike the AT class of 2027
Enjoyed this update.
100% agree! I love her videos, but skip the NH specific ones.
Thanks for the update. I enjoy your vlogs. You speak thoughtfully and your content is interesting.
so fun to have this "visit" with you as you hiked. :-) What a pleasure.
I hope you and your family have a fantastic 2025. Thanks for sharing the fun in 2024.

Your life has changed since you had a baby as it should, whatever works for you and family is all that matters. Nice variety this year. Like the rescue stories, the decision of safety over summit could include interviews with hikers not so famous who can describe those situations.
Maybe visit some of the towns that are by a lot of these different hiking trails or skiing areas that. are in New Hampshire. and tell people what the towns have to offer in the way of hiking help and skiing help.
trail days 24 was awesome passin thru and his taylor were glad to stop in
Im not a fan of the rescues…Im retired from law enforcement and have had enough of similar types.
Could you do periodic interviews of thru hikers on the Appalachian trail?
I noticed Pawtuckaway on the Fire Tower list. That's actually a really cool hike as it's one of two extinct volcanic craters in NH. You can see the crater if you look on a topo map. It's fun and it's only a 6.5 mile loop to do the whole rim including the Fire Tower.
Very nice plan, and I enjoyed this episode. Keep the safety session as a short segment. It's surprising that folks aren't watching.
For locals trying to get rid of gear they don't use anymore, obviously you take a small profit.
mannnnn no way. 2 seconds after I paused the video to type that comment, you mention you're thinking of the same thing ahahahah!
Thanks for sharing, I think it would be great to do a video on different ideas of family hikes and different activities associated with them.
Hopefully you can find some time to hit a few real trails though too!😊
I'm gonna have to find some time for that myself! Keep posting!
Your Safety Over Summits project sounds like something that you are passionate about. I hope it jells for you and you can launch something.
Meet ups at your place sound great. Almost like Ramdinos End of Days hike. You can be the Ramdino of the north.. or better!
Squam Lake was featured on Chronicle earlier this week. The “overlooked lake” and On Golden Pond.
I’ve had the toenail removal, it is incredibly painful!!!! Glad it’s better now.
Keep going with the gear shop and cool used gear sale. Also think teaching hiking skills on the channel might be good.
congratulations , really love your channel . i just like simple day hikes and other interesting close to home adventures .
Id love to visit your shop and do a meet up hike!!!! I hope that happens! I love the gear resale idea too.
I would absolutely buy a #SafetyOverSummits sticker and/or patch.
You should make a trek to the Adirondacks
Hi Taylor, Garmin has an AT challenge badge. I did it last year since I can't hike the real AT because I take care of my disabled mother.
Thanks!
Thank you!!
I like your hiking videos but I don’t watch the NewHampshire news ones.
In the 1980's Peter was the fire tower warden on Mount Cardigan. He was legally blind.
Major.
Maybe pre-order for hike opoly??? I'm in!
Taylor ❤
REI just cancelled all their experience events while your store is just starting to have them.
Hello from 1904 Electric Company House on the rocky coast of Maine, US.
Please go to trail days,Damascus needs you.
What is the 4000 AMC patch on that bulletin board? Is that for 4000 miles on the Appalachian trail?
the 48 4,000 footers in NH!
@ thanks for replying!! I did not know you can submit that record. Very cool! That is a goal of mine as well… eventually!
Where do i find the backpacker podcast???
Take comments with a grain of salt. When asked to give an opinion, of course the die hard watchers will comment and agree but commenters are usually on a very small portion of the views and have no stake in the financial outcome. View count is really the better metric to use when planning future videos.
❤
Taylor I don't want to be first today!!! Sorry!😂
You are! My mom was going to comment first but decided to let you have it
Awww that's so sweet of her!🥰
I am sitting down by the lake, eating pizza for lunch and reading the newspaper and then all of a sudden my phone lights up & it's Taylor! Yay!!! 😂👍👏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Missing Taylor is what happens when I'm binging all the days of 2023 badbathikes.
@ Ohhhh I like her vids too...👍
Wow Taylor, what a busy busy year for your 2024, thanks for the recap, and looking forward to your 2025 adventures!
