What brand laundry appliances do you have? Do they work? Do you like them? Let me know because clearly I have to get new ones.

The only issues I have had with my 1963 RCA Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII set is: had to replace the hose that goes from the pump to the lint filter, and put new light bulbs in the control panel and that’s about it for the washer. Now all the dryer needed was a new drum light and blower/fan belt and a lint clean out and that’s it. Can’t complain about doing doing those minor repairs to a washer and dryer set that’s 57 years old.

The rollers that the drum sits and turns on probably went out especially the one over the exhaust vent that gets exposed to a lot of heat. That in turn caused the drum to wear on that metal piece harder. I have a similar Samsung drier that is 6 years old. The first 4 years were great but the last couple years I’ve had to replace the belt tensioner, the drum rollers, abs now something is up with the heating part of it.

I don't know. My Samsung dryer was purchased in 2010. Since that time, I've had to replace the heating element due to my negligence (skipped a vent cleaning). Its just now started to make a rumbling noise, so I figured a roller or two had worn out. Bought kit off Amazon (rollers, belt, tensioner) and took the dryer apart only to find the rollers and tensioner were in excellent shape. I installed the new ones anyway, reassembled, and started...same damn noise. Closer inspection showed cracks in the drum along the roller path. Thought about trying some JB Weld, but luckily was able to find a replacement drum on line that was in stock. I was surprised to see how thin the drum metal actually is. OTOH, my mother's Maytag dryer ran for 20 years without a single issue. Our Samsung washer crapped out at the five year mark (ours is blue, which is no longer made). Lesson: always by white appliances.

I'm a mechanical engineer. I would design a washer with electronics that have built in surge protection, a traditional universal motor with triac speed controller, and planar transformers if I were to design one. A simple triple digit LED display, digital rotary knobs with LEDs, manual load size adjustment, user stored presets that make it easy to use, and robust 5 volt semiconductors that can take a beating and the circuit boards are encased in plastic to prevent moisture damage. The dyer will have rope insulation instead of cheap felt, and held together with a proper brackets and screws instead of cheap pop can aluminum. The washer outer tub will be drawn stainless steel instead of plastic

Unfortunately your original complaint was a grinding noise. It sounds like the dryer was constantly being overloaded. When you hear that, it’s the rollers that are usually the first to go. When that happens the drum begins to come in contact with the bulkhead. Now you have metal to metal rubbing and you keep using the dryer which in turn gives you the paper-thin metal you are showing. I’ve done repairs on Samsungs 10+ years old and have run into this issue a couple times and it was always the customer continuing to use the dryer with the noise or prolonging the repair.
Open up the bottom, pull out the drum and see what actually caused it. Curious as to what dryer you currently have.

Your dryer was making noise for over a year. It took until you started seeing parts of the felt being sheered off to fix the Dryer. You had a support that froze likely the one next to the heater, and it likely froze while it was still under warranty. Had you gotten it repaired while it was still under warranty, it would still be working today. Basically you ignored a problem until it got so bad that the unit broke beyond repair.

We are on our second set of Samsung washer dryer. the first washer failed, the flywheel on the washer disintegrated, but not before we replaced the drum seal and the pump. The dryer failed shortly after when we tried to dry an old bath floor-mat and the old rubber backing broke down and stuck yo everything internally (our bad) Of course the color we chose on the first set was discontinued, so now we have two different color blues, a lighter shade for the pedestal and the the washer dryer set. another reason why we decided to stay with Samsung, we already had the pedestals. the original pair lasted a little over ten years. the new set is 17 months old, we also stopped using liquid soap and fabric softener in the new washer. so far so good and no odor or stains on the tub seal. However we noticed the dryer was still running long after it should have stopped. after spending hours on you tube I realized a lot of folks have the same problem, I don't know exactly what I did that actually worked but I tried everything i read or watched and its working again, how long???????? I am really disappointed in Samsung and their lack of care or help, but I will say we have two large TV's from

The ONLY problem I've had with the GE dryer is the drum guides wearing out. Check them regularly and swap them before they go completely and the dryer will last and last. Same problem with our set: Washer works great - Dryer just died (less than 5 years). In our case Drum cracked (a common thing for Samsung machines) & repairs would run to about $600.00 but as you stated - God knows what else is wrong with it & when it will break down again. I was thinking about scrapping the whole entire set & start over. But after some consideration decided to change just a Dryer (going with Maytag) for now. Will use Washer as long as I possibly can. Matching pair - is sure nice to have, but I think its just an esthetics more than anything else, I would definitely would not call not matching set "useless" .
personally - I started to give up on Samsung brand altogether: LED TV - died after 4 years (dead pixels started to appear), Samsung Sport Watch died after 1 year (Back button stopped working - so the watch became useless piece of metal), Wireless ear buds Icon-X 2018 (not holding the charge) now Dryer. In my humble opinion - Samsung should stick to making Phones & possibly TV Screens

JMO, this particular dryer could have been dropped/damaged during shipment. But I suspect these drum problems were/are caused by poorly made support rollers. They are made of plastic and rubber. What happens to plastic as it heats up? I took the top off of the same model a cpl of days ago due to some squeaking noise. I inspected the rollers and they were not disintegrating or showing any damage of any type. I put it back together and ran it for 10 minutes. It began squeaking after about three minutes. I narrowed the squeaking down to the roller just above the main drive motor. Will replace all four support rollers while I have it apart. The dryer has no other known problems right now. I noted the rollers cost about $30 on Ebay. Also, if one of the support rollers is going bad the drum will not rotate evenly. That will lead to uneven wearing on the insulation around the drum. It may start out as a squeaking noise due to a bad bearing. It could then turn into a 'thumping' noise that sounds like there is something besides clothing in the drum. If that is the case, shut it off immediately and DO NOT USE IT until the support wheels, and/or other repairs, are completed. The dryer in this video should be dis-assembled and sold for parts, imo. I am certain the good working parts, (door, electronics, wiring, plugs, sheet metal, etc.), will eventually be needed by someone.

It's literally a 15min job once a year, and gives me an opportunity to check out other components in the process..
I also find it extremely unlikely that you are on the same element for 20 years.the kind of thickness of metal it would take for that to happen would also use a CRAP ton of electricity..my epicz is from 2003-2005 if I'm not mistaken and it doesn't use anything that would last that long.

I found the solution to my My Samsung dryer DV330!!! It was simpler than I thought :-) kept blowing the high limit thermostat. I replaced the high limit thermostat (manually reset it as many times as I could first), thermo cut-off fuse, heating element, cycling thermostat, AND the thermistor. They all had continuity but I replaced them anyway, and the thermister was reading the correct ohms when I did resistance test at room temp. I also cleaned the heck out of the dryer hose, filter, and blower wheel pipe to make sure air flow was good. I even ran it with no dryer hose but was still over heating. I checked the relay switch on the main control board and confirmed it was operating correctly. I was racking my brain trying to figure out why it kept over heating and tripping the high limit thermostat. Eventually I bypassed the thermostat with the higher temperature thermo fuse and ran the dryer at 10 minute intervals, but then I figured out the root of the problem! It was the blower seal and the seal on the dryer filter cover. The foam gasket had become so depressed, that gaps in the seal allowed the blower to suck in cooler air from out side the dryer drum. This meant that the air running past the cycling thermostat and the thermister was cooler than it actually was within the drum. SOLUTION: I thickened the seal of the blower wheel and dryer filter cover with electrical tape and covered the gaps with electrical tape, this ensured the blower wheel was sucking in 100% of the hot air thru the dryer filter, and none of the cooler air outside of the dryer drum. After doing this, to my surprise the heating element was cycling on and off in like 2 minute intervals like it should, no more over heating and tripping the high-limit thermostat!! Before I corrected the seal, the heating element would never turn off, it would stay on for like 8 minutes and then blow the thermostate. Not anymore!!

Back off. Mr. Gizmo is hitting the mark closer then the rest of you experts.
    1) The better looking the wife, the better looking the dryer and washer. Something Mr. Gizmo and I understand. It must be a matched pair because Mrs. Gismzo is likely a babe.
    2) No, you do not need to laser balance your dryer or washer. The problem with the newer systems is that they are not as robust as the older ones and cannot handle the over loading. My guess is that Mrs. Gizmo does not like to do laundry and fills up the washer and dryer with as much as they can hold. The off center force is torquing your tin can and fatiguing the metal, and tearing up your felt. Sure, you can fix it, but it will just fail again. If you are going to buy low to mid, you cannot over load, try about half of what you are doing now.
    3) I looked up this video because I just bought a new one and it did not even start. It had to go back.

I called them up, they said I don't qualify since my kid did it. What damage will you have done to a couch that won't have happened from using it? Then I had to go get the machine myself, haul it upstairs myself, and re-install it myself. If you pay someone to do that, it's $350. The noise was probably just a roller, or debris in your blower motor (pens, bobby pins, golf tees, money, kids toys).
One thing all home owners need to understand is. if the machine is getting used at least 5 times a week. it's washing almost 240 loads a year. Now your dryer is 3 years old. that's 720 cycles. it's not designed for that. it's not a commercial dryer. Dryer manufactures are thinking it's only going to be used 1-3 x a week.
Here's the other factor that most home owners don't know.
Carbon monoxide goes out the dryer vent. if it get plugged.. The carbon monoxide will come back in the house through the dryer, It needs to escape out the dryer vent to outside.
If you have any white flex piping .. Replace it. it's not safe and can melt. if the dryer is drying more than 5-8 loads a week have real dryer service person clean it out. the whole vent and the vent inside the dyer and the lint trap and inside the dryer. that's where most fires start. because if backed up the lint has no where to go.

We bought a matching Samsung washer/dryer set. A couple years later we got a recall/warning that the lid on the washer could fly off if a high spin level was used, causing bodily harm or death. But no, they were not exchanging for a new model that would
not do that. They were offering a $200 credit to buy a new one! Secondly, our clothes started having little tiny pieces of greasy black flakes all over them. I had been running vinegar and/or washer cleaner regularly, to no avail. Now our dryer is making loud squeaking noises and smelling hot. Two repair guys came and immediately said it would cost over $380 to fix it. They also
charged us $85 just to come check (which they didn't really do. They just said, if it is squeaking it needs a dryer repair kit.)
They could have told us that over the phone. To be clear, there are just two of us in our household, so we don't have big loads of laundry. I will never buy Samsung again. I originally had a Samsung phone which was also a big problem. And yes, apparently we have to buy into extended warranties to protect ourselves from "planned obsolescence".

Samsung is pure garbage. Just worked on belt tensioner pulley (metal on metal ---NO BEARING!!!) IT WAS MADE THIS WAY!!! Really? They couldn't afford to put a 75 cent bearing on an $800 dryer? It is called "BUILT IN OBSOLESCENCE" Modern manufacturers INTENTIONALLY use crappy (plastic not metal, etc,) parts so the machine will break down right after warranty expires. Engineers test each part over and over to see exactly how long each part will last. Originally this was designed to sell repair parts, but now they no longer make/store repair parts, thus forcing you to buy a whole new machine instead of a $35 "specialized" part.
