Blaenwern - God is Love Hymn - Westminster Abbey Armistice Centenary (with Lyrics)

- This is the hymn, 'God is Love, Let Heaven Adore Him' written by Timothy Rees (1874 -1939) and set to the Welsh hymn tune BLAENWERN, composed by William Penfro Rowlands (1860-1937). This hymn tune is most commonly used for the hymn, 'Love Divine, All Loves Excelling'.
It was sung at the WW1 Armistice Centenary Service at Westminster Abbey on Sunday 11th November.
Sung by the Choir of Westminster Abbey. The hymn was arranged by James O'Donnell, the Director of Music at the Abbey.

My experience of God's love was in the Wells Cathedral. When this song was sung, I couldn't stop shedding tears of joy. It was because of God's be love that I was there.
My Late Mother loved this Hymn too much I still miss her crispy voice singing to this hymn she is surely at God’s feet
Amen. She surely is as are my late mother and father. Both loved this hymn and sang it at maximum decibel levels in church
We sang this same English hymn "LOVE DIVINE All Love Excelling" (BLAEWERN) at the Memorial Service for HM Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother in St Paul's Cathedral, London open to all April 2002. The Royals select this favorite hymn lots.
I was on an Easter trip to England from Augusta, GA, and knew this Service was not to be missed. Ironically lucky! The BBC even made us practice the hymns one hour before the service to insure perfection. I am not over it yet!

It's not the hymn you sang, it was the hymn tune Blaewern. I think it is one of the most captivating and meditative hymn tunes ever composed.

These are the lyrics I know! Didn't know about that God is love hymn. Perhaps they only share the melody
God is love: then no worries in approaching him while it is still the Day of Grace.

The Lord God indeed is the font of warmth, light & love. The scriptures attest to this. What an absolute miracle that 2000 years after the Son of God was mercilessly thrashed and nailed to a cross, to die in shame, that His church is established in the soul of every believer. All those people raising praise were knitted together in the wombs of there mothers , born into the world, and upon public witness the truth of Jesus Christ was made known to them. The presence of Holy God is a majestic blessing in all things throughout creation.

It's the same hymn tune (Blaenwern). Any texts that use the same metre can work with the tune.
