Using water based products Doc paints the wood kitchen cabinets white. It's NOT an easy process but the cost savings is huge vs. new cabinets. - Навчання та стиль
Wow! Amazing job on those cabinets! I'm renting but I've been given the go-ahead to paint the oak cabinets. I don't have as many as you tackled for sure. I'll start with the bathroom vanity and if I still have my sanity, I'll continue on in the kitchen. Thanks for the video!
Always love a fresh coat of paint! Looks amazing Doc!
That looks much better than I expected!
Looks top notch -- lots of work for certain. Looking forward to seeing backsplash install!
Looks great. Like the color choices and the cabinets came out great. Thanks for sharing ...
I've been seriously considering painting my oak cabinets. Thank you so much for this video!! I've decided not to move forward with painting them because I know I'd end up crying in the fetal position on my kitchen floor. Honestly, you've saved my sanity. Your cabinets look beautiful! 👍
Great video doc, and thanks for the tour the beach house is looking great.
Thanks Doc for sharing... I've been putting off this project for years! 😁
Great job and thanks for the how-to video.....it will come in handy!
Thank you so much. for such details. May have to do this for my winter project.
You did a great job I’m a painter I love to paint cabinets is a long process but at the end people love the results
Looks great Doc, thanks for the video.
Your videos are great! I’m so glad I found your channel!
Looks beautiful great job! Thank you 🙏
Am retiring within the next 6 months and have been researching how to paint red oak cabinets! You even used the same products I was thinking about using! Great explanation and tutorial. Can’t wait to get started. Thanks for taking the guess work out of such a daunting project!😊
Looks beautiful, I’m getting ready to do mine and I’am absolutely terrified I’ll mess them up.. Thank you for sharing your journey, hopefully mine turn out as good as yours did..
Love the aluminum foil trick for the trays. Was just cursing yesterday about how they don't make liners for the smaller trays
I am thinking about painting my cabinets. Just started thinking in the last few days. Great timing! I needed to see this video! And I'm so happy mine aren't oak.....so much extra work! :-)
Glad it was helpful!
Looking Great..... Thanks for sharing tips
Looks great! Thanks for sharing.
Looks great Doc...
Very informative. Doing mine now. Thanks!
Looks good. Know your enjoy going there. Be sure to Show us updates there because we like home renovation and yard stuff. 😍
Good job Doc
Hey Doc, it looks good! I never knew I liked a cubed light fixture until I saw the one over your kitchen sink. It looks sharp!
Yes, it matches the one in the widows watch room.
Looks great!
I’m inspired. I thought I’d be stuck with 90’s golden oak forever
A job well done!
That was an awesome video thank you so much for sharing that that helped a lot
Yikes. That’s beautiful kitchen 🥳🥳🥳
Looks good add some crown molding on top of the cabinet with some string led to get more lighting look dark in there
Looks so nice, I am going to use black handles on my cabinets all so, looks better. Thanks
Thanks for convincing me to go with pre-finished white cabinets; I’m going to add to a corner in my kitchen that’s currently dead space. Was considering getting unfinished (to save a couple hundred bucks) and then painting, but I’d rather just get them and put them up.
Tell me about that microwave oven with the slim profile, I like that it doesn’t jut down too far even with the lower-height cabinet.
I just saw this video, great job by the way. I used the Valspar bonding primer you used and I spray with a Graco LST 17. It says do not dilute on the can so I didn't and it sprayed fine. The bad news, I have a ton of bleed through (oak)!! Their definition of "stain blocking" is different than mine!
Looking good!
Amazing job! I'll be tackling this at some point.
God speed.......
Looks great
Wow! Looks amazing Doc. I dont have time to watch now but I will later. Putting this on my list of possible projects.
nice work !!!!!
Always caulk the seams between the door frames and panels before you paint to allow wood movement without cracking your nice paint job.
👍Lotta work & super nice
Did you paint the inside lip of cabinet frame or no? I see it taped off in one section of video, but it isn't painted during the roller demo. Thanks!
Awesome job! I wish I was that handy. lol God gives us all our special talents I guess. lol
Great video on painting cabinets. Since it's been a minute since the video. Can you update us on how the paint, primer and overall project has held up? I'd love to use the same products but worried about long term durability.
Did you recoat the wood frames and doors? Looking very very nice. Giving me incentive, that could be a bad thing.
I’m struggling as to what to do with my cabinets. They are currently painted off white with a water based paint . They’re in really good condition with no chips or top coat. I want to paint them a brighter white using a water based paint. To prime or not to prime is my dilemma
I am a custom cabinet maker from ft worth. The 1st thing we judge painters on it there caulking job. Each panel should be caulking and each cabinet joint needs caulking also. I would have given away free cabinets in exchange for a yard half as amazing as yours. Love your lawn work
I agree with the caulking on most... but these are old with free floating panels and a heavy routed edge. So we left them un-caulked. I think it's why the doors are so SQUARE still after all these years at the beach.
Is it horrible looking not using a grain filler?
How did you know that I have been planning (more like procrastinating) to paint the same exact cabinets in our home? Builder quality cabinets about 21 years old. This will give me a more realistic idea of what to expect. Thanks!
Damn man you did that fast :)
Hey Doc,
Amazing job in the kitchen welldone .
The microwave above cooker is very nice just wondering about an extractor fan should that not be above the cooker .
Happy new year 👍
The fan is very powerful and works well as it sits.
Only thing I would have done differently, dump that Vaspar paint and use Sherwin Williams! Great quality paint!
Valspar is actually owned by SW, they bought them for 9.3 billion years back. They now produce the private label for Lowes. We are using it for all our painting and so far I'm pretty impressed.
@@HowTowithDoc okay, but there’s a reason it’s cheaper in cost. It’s to make attractive for “box store” customers to purchase. Ever wonder why places like HomeDepot and Lowe’s have cheap prices on building materials? They need to crush the competition. They can purchase in huge quantities, which in return many manufactures produce special products just to be sold in the big box stores. It’s not all bad stuff, but A LOT of it is on the cheaper side of quality.
Well let's be honest, I'd rather repaint my kitchen cabinets than reinsulate my attic lol
Hey Doc, wasn’t sure how to contact you, but haven’t seen any vids that solely address Johnson crass/clover for Bermuda in the winter. We have a bunch that’s starting to take over (even though we have put preemergent down twice). Wondering if you had a different strategy, or use the normal recommendation (double kill,etc.). Thanks!
I would have missed the hinges thing😳🇨🇦♥️
I also have oak cabinets. May I ask why didn't you use stain instead of painting them?
Stain is more time consuming & white kitchens are trending now.
I’m glad he did this tho, cause someone’s been trying to talk me into painting my solid oak cabinets white, & I’m not seeing the advantages. I’m constantly having to touch up the white bathroom cabinets.
It took me seven years to paint my cabinets. It was worth it.
I like the natural walnut cabinets but the wife wanted white ones when we built this house so that is what we got
Hired out our kitchen cabinets painting. Put new hardware on too. Worth every penny to hire a professional.
Doing my uncles whole kitchen without a roller is a pain! Next time I’ll invest in a small roller
I like how he said he’d link the sprayer but didn’t 😫
Great video, Doc! How many hours do you feel the cabinets were start to finish?
It's a long hard process and I would say 4-5 days total.
Eeek! That overspray on the equipment in the corner!!!! Is that a pressure washer? Bet everything in that room has a white haze.
Lol I was thinking the same thing. Maybe those are tools he borrowed from a neighbor.
I like to line my grill's drip tray with foil too. Makes cleanup way easier.
Me too. I also line baking sheets with the non-stick foil.
Y?? Just why??? Geez I have so much love for wood grain, oak cabinets painted white. Aeeee
I used aqua coat. Don't like it. Trying drydex next
so what was wrong with the oak ????????????????????
circa 1986
They'll chip in no time
Mel Gibson is that you!?
Looks great
