When your voice is so brutal Gibby thinks it’s distorted. Speaking from experience of seeing them live, his voice is even more brutal in person. They tone him down on the recordings.
To be fair it does sound like they add a lot of reverb to his voice in certain parts.
I rolled my eyes at "sounds better live" people for years until I heard them open with this.
But for real, the album version does not do this song justice. It's good, but not 'live' good.

@@nickcabanillas3715 This song as well as the accompanying video depict a torn individual who works as a Soviet officer in a Labor Camp, that is the explanation they have behind the song. But i also felt it more of a nazzi guard or a person who decided who would be gassed.

Love this reaction! No distortion or 'warping' necessary for Johannes' vocal talent. I've been obsessed with them for about 2 1/2 months now (yeah, it took me forever to come across them!)... I listen to their songs every. day. - on repeat! This is one of my Top 3 songs, lyric-wise, but all their songs are good. In your own time, you should check out the official video for this song - it's as original as the music. Also, make sure to see a live performance or 2 (or 200!). They are in my Top 2 want to see concerts. / As for them being Christian... um, no. But, watch them (err, Johannes) being interviewed & you'll like him.
Bro, this is definitely a band where some of the music videos are worth watching, because a bunch of them relate to the themes of the song. I'm thinking Bloody Angel, the eagle has landed, Colossus, and vultures fly.

Avatar "paint me red" is a killer tune by them too. Too many to list. Saw them live multiple times. His voice is brutal, no autotune needed.

Funny, his reaction to the intro was identical to mine the first time I heard it. Still can't listen to this just once- I have to restart the intro and first verse a couple-three times, then hit repeat 2 or 3 times for full playbacks.

But yea I always interpreted it as satirizing those guys who are always preaching about how “THE END IS NEAR”

Avatar are a superb metal band from Gothenburg in Sweden, check out The Tower, Welcome To The Freakshow, Bloody Angel and Let It Burn! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼 have a look at some of there live concert footage as well. I’ve seen them live in Britain supporting Halestorm.

I wouldn't read too much into the title or the meaning of the song. When asked about the meaning of the song, a band member said that it's about "the apocalypse and a man who's hailing it".
