Poor Goliath, some chica comes into his house and kills him. What did he do to deserve that?
the strongest survives
I thought the same thing, G.
You unlocked the hidden level in Shadow of the Colossus!
Came looking for this comment specifically
@@TheDweeb002Same here!!!😂😂😂
Yup!
Truth reminds me of the game
el que sabe le sabe, puro shadow of the colossus
It was almost like the creature wanted help, I thought that she was going to help it 😢
Giant monster robot committed Suicide by Sword Girl. It wanted to die but lacked the courage to take it's own life. Only explanation as to why it gave her easy access to it's one weak spot.
I agree. Her motives for killing the giant are unclear. Is she the bad guy?
Agreed, was pissed off when the monster died...
Gigantic and seemingly undefeatable opponent that has one vulnerable spot that it leaves wide open to attack. That seems to be a pretty common theme in sci-fi.
Sci-fi? I think you're missing the more obvious reference in the title itself.
Giant robot committed Suicide by Sword Girl. The only explanation. The robot was just tired of being a giant robot death machine and chose to end it the only way it knew.
That was a protected species!!!🥺
😂
This highlights the importance of storytelling above all else.
Really, could you expand on that idea please [one sentence] maybe a bit of color?
I ask because I noted another comment that maybe leaned that direction . . . . . kind-a [?] and I am trying to find some traction to capture where ya'll are coming from roger [?]¿] !

@@cameltube-vk7el read up on character and plot development. The protagonist has to experience growth, in order for the character to be compelling. The only way to do that is for the protagonist to experience struggle. None of that is present here.
How rude.@@cameltube-vk7el
The film is 4 minutes long man. That's how it works; it's a snippet of a world, a narrative, a character. It doesn't have the benifit of a full feature length. It doesn't need to spoon feed you every waking detail. You should be able to fill the gaps yourself. Perhaps a lot is best left ambigious. Perhaps the film maker just wanted to make a really enjoyable sequence, with no desire to dig any deeper. And perhaps your comments are just overally critical and kind of mean spirited.
@@BsERoss There's a big difference between "doesn't need to spoonfeed you every waking detail" and "doesn't establish who, what, or why".
It feels like this was constructed on ideas of cool scenes. It’s always cool to have an epic showdown but even the best fights in cinema would be moot without context on what led up to the big event. The CGI was pretty good, clunky at times but visually engaging. 😊

Turn your brain off with this one. All eye candy, no thought.
not even eye candy... just... eye
@@WitchDoctorLarry Not even an eye at the end.
I kept thinking she'd pull the thorn stuck in his hand...and they'd become friends! :D
Shadow of the Colossus fan film??? All it was missing was a horse and shadow creatures bursting from the wound of the monster. The look of the beast, the costuming, the environment, and heck the music and general principle all very much inspired by Shadow of the Colossus.
What did Goliath do to deserve that?
He was just out for a stroll in the woods.
@@RobertPilla Right, then some little thing honked at him, so he tried to pick it up, and it hopped on him like a flea. He tried to get a better look at it and then...it stung him in the eye! Maybe they had history, I don't know, but at first glance that just seems kind of ill-mannered and aggressive.
I don't mind the really short films. I think of them more as a proof of concept that may become a full fledged movie.
I get the feeling this was made as a demo for other jobs, or CGI hobby, made into a short because why not.
@@1SCme Why not? Exactly! Hollywood has been creatively bankrupt and on life support for years. It's back in the people who have talent hands. Thankfully. I'm sick of super hero movies, sequels and reboots.
great scenery, good effects, but just a dragon slaying? what would be cool is if she made friends with the monster everyone feared, and they worked together for a better world.
It's Shadow of the Colossus with a few minor changes. It was pretty okay. A little vague, but I'm okay with that. A short scene pre fight to give a little more context would've been welcomed, but otherwise, pretty cool.
For all those saying the Goliath was stupid…. Maybe the goal of the Goliath was to get the heroine to stab it in the eye. It could be a portal or trying to release something it was carrying.
Have you tried to think in juxtapositions? Imagine yourself in Goliath's place... You're walking through the woods... You're not touching anyone! Suddenly you hear an ant squeaking... You pay attention to him and want to catch him... and the ant suddenly starts jumping from hand to hand and freezes. And so you bring it closer to examine it, and this asshole suddenly bites you right in the eye! In my opinion, is the story quite plausible? As a result, you are taken to the hospital, and this fucking ant becomes the hero of the other ants and they make up a story about him that he defeated you! And you live and you don't even know...
Wow. I feel so enlightened.
Great costuming, cg, and cinematography. Would have been nice if there was a story to go with all that.
Yeah. This was like a demo for software that allows you to make a movie by yourself.
@@gregorylagrange Ever tried making a film like this yourself? Because it sure as s**t isn't easy. It takes time, resources, skills and a lot of tenacity. Maybe respect the craft and respect that people are making these pieces of art.
@@BsERoss Many a bad product has come from tenacious effort.
Why don't you respect the craft and not default to lumping in projects that just aren't good with ones that are, just because of your feelings.
@@gregorylagrange No, If you respected the craft, you would leave constructive feedback, not a comment like that. Dust ask directors to showcase their films; they're not made for Dust. So given it's been added to this curation, I think it's earned a certain degree of respect. If you're a fan of film, there is no bad film; being elitest is missing the point of subjective art.
@@BsERoss (Movie notes-Final scene: Blind man who was sitting on a bench calls out to protagonist. Protagonist listens for a bit as blind man begins to describe what air looks like.
After blind men finishes talking, protagonist just says "okay". Then simply walks away as ending music plays because he knows he's never going to see or hear from this strange man again.)
Okay.
Crouching tiger, hidden titan.
I liked it, but some of the model movement was a little choppy. It was gorgeous, and I do look forward to more things like this, but it felt 95% finished.
Details count. A bird flying through the air doesn't have its legs down like it is standing on the ground, they are tucked right up next to their body. Then what kind of sword warrior is going to grab the blade of their sword?
This is a nice detail. Many sword warriors grabbed the blade of their swords in the German medieval and renaissance traditions especially. See Paulus Hector Mair and Talhoffer also. It is called "half-sword" (halb schwert, iirc...) and combatant knights in full plate armor used it extensively like a mini-spear for delivering strong thrusts to weak points in the opponents armor, such as the visor slit, the armpits, and into the wrist from the back of the gauntlet.
You can also check out Christian Henry Tobler's book, Secrets of German Medieval Swordsmanship if you are so inclined.
Cheers 😁👍
It looked like she was heading back to get her sword. Great job, folks.
I was waiting for this to be a heroine helps the innocent monster scene. Definitely didn't want to see that cool blue eye close....... Very interesting idea and visuals. I'd like to see more.
This make no sense other than the big giant robot committed Suicide by Sword Girl. The robot has obvious battle scars and signs of opponent attacks. It is therefore battle savvy. So why would it take an obvious enemy and place it within jumping distance of it's one weak spot. There are also nit picky things like 1) you can't unsheathe a sword stuffed on your back, 2) That's not how the physics of swinging on a rope works, & 3) falling 150 plus feet can't be countered with a simple tuck and roll.
Enjoyed this, but why attack the goliath? Now need more, would make a good series I think
i feel Shadow of the colossus vibes here
3:31 the jump looks so fake , that it makes my day so much 😂😂🤣🤣
I like the effort, and it is a good show of CGI skills (I am guessing that is the original purpose), but should have added a short background intro - a brief discussion as she headed out to confront the beast, or just a screen of text of how we reached this point
Would like to see the story leading up to this point!👍👍
Who else think about 'Shadow of the Collossus' watching this??
I want to see more of this story. Please make parts 2 and 3. Looking forward to more.
Looked like Goliath and his destructor were both on suicide missions
One thing it has that many Dust projects don't. Is decent lighting.
_Shadow of the Colossus_ short film!
I came up with the idea for a short at the beginning a robot is lying on the ground in a pile of debris he comes up out of the debris it looks around pure devastation Humanity wiped out by atomic war then he starts his journey and gradually he meets up with more robots no humans are ever found at the end there's standing looking up at the stars in the night sky you can use your creativity for the rest of it
Reminds me of “War Of The Gargantuas” 1966
1:17 Is their room to clear the sword from the scabbard performing that particular draw?
This was very cool! I Liked it! 😁😁😁😁
Nice but you lost your sword 😆 This was a very nice short would like to see more of your work .
✨WoW✨
For the first time I saw such a low budget short film of Dust 😂
💯💫👍👀!
Very good! Thank you
Texas
Definitely picking up the sotc vibes! Very cool!
Dust writes "in futuristic realm where robot rocks roam", they write this just so this fantastic genre short movie can be displayed. It is not sc-fi.
Imdb synopsis: A young swordstress battles a giant rock monster.
❤ strong, resourceful, and intelligent women who have the mobility and courage to take an independent stand when the opportunity presents itself to fight even a mountain of rock!
Honestly, this could be just because I'm a huge titanfall fan, especially Titanfall 2, but I was expecting "Goliath" to end up acting as something similar to BT-7274, and I couldn't help but feel sympathy towards the giant rock-covered robot (is it even a robot?) as it died. But that could just be the effects of recently finishing Titanfall 2's campaign.
Awesome 🙂
Little girls usually run away screaming when they see monsters but this one learned special arts from grandfather
The old Poke a monster in the eye with a blunt stick martial art
uses a sword
Real men use sticks. Ask the Cyclops.
Nice intro, where's the rest?
More Please!!
That was interesting. Curious cyclopean stone monster!
¿Es totalmente independiente de los demás videos del canal?
50 footfall with a sword and she lands like she just jumped a puddle...k.
Feather fall, lv1 lol
That was more like 100 feet.
@@TheRealSkeletor ok hmm ... lets see. Feather fall 60ft per round, lasts 1 min. So good enough for 600ft :)
Really well done! Def Shadow of the Colossus vibe!
Great short film, but it's a pity it wasn't all that long!
Witcher of the Colossus
for those asking about story , this story is about king David and , monster Goliath , whom David killed with just one attack , mentioned in old testament.
👍
Shouldn't the title have been .....Cyclops?
As always , asking for a friend.
Reminded me of the ps2 game Shadow of the Collosus. Slight nostalgia.
Motion physics were off on that last jump...
and the rope swing. It was like watching Legolas grab a horse at full gallop.
Ouch, that had to hurt!
This is absolutely amazing!
Well done👽
Bravo bravo 👏
Well Done! Outstanding on all levels! 👍👍👍👍
More of a teaser than an actual short film. Far too short. The lack of storyline made this a pretty pointless watch. Why was Goliath so stupid?
This felt like it could have been the teaser trailer for a monster hunter clone
You apparently are new to DUST.
@@Non-Serviam300definitely not familiar with how these short films work.
@@pirategmunger Think vague or incomplete script, no real endings, style over substance... that's 80% of all the shorts.
@leftpastsaturn67 I get this is a sci fi channel and things are left ambigious to make you think but you should never choose style over substance in film making.
How are we supposed to think about the ambigious ending if there is no story being told to begin with.
Bro was just chillin :(
Was good but could have done more with the story.
That was the story! The end!
it's in the Bible

She’s amazing!
I liked the music on this one. Imdb says it was James Vader, is that correct?
if so, bravo sir.
I didnt realise people could jump horizontally
Mania do ser humano de ter que destruir tudo... !

A live-action version of the video game Shadow of the Colossus...
☝️😎
Oh look, a strong female character! We’ve never seen that before.
You played Shadow of the Colossus too! 😃
How long did this take to make?
I replied to a comment below from henryA, so I thought I would post it here also. I noticed the Half-Sword technique - do you all practice medieval swordsmanship? Nice detail!
From my other reply:

She stuck landing!🤣🤣🤣
Poor Goliath
He had hopes and dreams.
Looks like she spent her 7 lives against Goliath. Better take care from now on.
I should replay Shadow of the Colossus.
I don't get it, one moment she's in free fall and the next she's got a rope in her hand that somehow helps her survive falling like 100 feet.
i dunno... why would you want to stab something so magnificent in the eye??
Great bit of sound, music, cgi and action, but why would this immensely powerful giant be in the slightest bit interested in the flea-sized woman?
I liked the very beginning with the spires, but then it looked like a set. Why would futuristic robots look like rocks?? But a lot better than I could do. You should be proud of it.
And just like Shadow of the Colossus, this has no plot or explanation at all. :) Regardless, it made me nostalgic and I really enjoyed it.
Sure, falling 400 feet and surviving with a tumble, so believable. 😂😂
You obviously missed the rope she let go of at the end
I was thinking, how is she going to remove that splinter from his hand. rofl
Who else went and watched Shadow of the Colossus after this?
So no fall damage?
Good length for attention span kids so that means they should be watching my films too & BTW if it's not sci-fi and anything goes now DUST show my films already
I would like to ask if it would be possible to use part of this video for a podcast about the presentation of my book. In addition to reading some pages from the novel, a short history of science fiction is also narrated. In the final cut of the video (about 40 minutes) I would like to include some sequences. Thank you very much.
Some women will do anything to have the best rock pavers for their exotic orchid gardens.
How exactly does this count as sci fi? This seems to be more of a fantasy film to me.
I think I saw something like this in a God of War video game.
4:00 Is the philar rock are computer graphic only, or is this some place on Earth?
Probably "Colossus" would be a more appropriate name. :P
That's not how you blow a horn. 😉
I hope someday filmmakers will realize that basic human anatomy means pulling a sword off your back requires that the sword be as short or shorter than your own arm.
Also, how is this worse than the cutscenes from the video game it was clearly based on that was released nearly 20 years ago?
I thought she was going to help it remove that huge "Stick" from the top of it's wrist...then again, that's what I get for thinking!...
I would have to say that there is a story and that its embedded in the title.
