I can remember when modellers would just casually drop into the description of their layouts "and I modified an alarm clock to use speeded up time" without saying exactly how!
If your prototype only has 6 trains a day, using a fast clock means time passes quicker, and you can run a days workings in just a couple of hours, rather than waiting around and being bored.
If you were to run your layout in real time, it would take a whole day to work through a days worth of trains - and there would be long periods when nothing is happening, as in the real railway. So by speeding up the clock, you can complete a whole day in just a couple of hours, and the periods when nothing happens are very short.
Great tip! I didnt know you could set that up as a speeded up clock.
Yes you can! It will be very handy for those that work to a fast clock.
I remember an article in the Railway Modeller about altering an mechanical clock to speed up the time. Much easier with digital, of course.

Nice video. What are the advantages of a speeded up clock?

As Jane said, it means you can speed up time, so that you dont have long gaps with nothing happening in between trains.

If your not doing time based operations, can you just make it an actual clock to see the actual time at the moment
Edit: I kept watching and I did it
