Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were a couple for a long time. She considered him the one great love of her life. She stated "Lindsey always blamed Fleetwood Mac for the loss of me. Had we not joined, we would have continued on with our music but we probably would have gotten married and we probably would have had a child and it would have been a different life."
One of my favorite songs! This group is so talented! You fall in love with their music. I'm 73 yrs and I still play their CD'S in my car. Makes me happy and I want to dance!!! ❤❤❤
I hear this track, I smile, and I'm immediately transported back to when it came out... I can almost feel the sunlight coming through the window of my room. Try Stevie Nicks - Stand Back, it's almost a flipside/slightly raunchy version of Gypsy.
@@jamesdignanmusic2765 That's exactly right, I got to see them live during that tour in Hawaii. I was stationed there when I was in the USMC. They did three encores, they brought out part of the USC marching band during the song Tusk at the end of the concert. That's the only time I got to see them live but it's a great memory.
I went to the "On With The Show" concert in Dallas in 2011 and Stevie explained the verse "Going back to the Velvet Underground/Back to the floor that I love" as a vintage clothing store I believe it was in San Francisco, called the Velvet Underground where she would shop for all the quirky clothes she wore. In the store the floors were hand painted in beautiful colors and the rooms were accented with lace and paper flowers. She wrote the song longing for the simpler days and freedoms she had before fame came her way. The "bright eyes" referred to in the song is a tribute to Robin Snyder, a close friend and confidante who died of leukemia not too long after the release of "Mirage".
There is a live video of , The Chain , by Fleetwood Mac from 1982 that's fantastic. Lindsey Buckingham does a outstanding guitar solo that shows how great of a guitarist he is.
My favorite rock band ever! Stevie Nicks has been my idol since I was 13! I am now 51. I saw her in concert in Chicago in 2016. I cried when she came out. Amazing how someone you don't even know can tough your heart and soul like that. That is what music has the power to do!
J, You'll love their "Say You Love Me", "You Make Loving Fun", and "Silver Spring" . The last one is best live from their 1997 concert 'The Dance'. Lindsey Buckingham on guitar. Great band.
That is easily the best outro of any song ever and on the really, really short list of best solos ever. Everything about this song is supernatural, delivered to us from whatever benevolent force that may be out there that just wants us to be happy :) harder than usual these days after having just lost Christine, but the fact that I get to push back against the sadness with the help of their music is a great tribute to her talent and the rest of the band.
Stevie and Lindsay had a group called Buckingham Nicks that I bought when I was in jr.hi. Fleetwood Mac were the sound in the background of my youth...I love your show!!
Stevie wrote "Gypsy" about memories of her early life before stardom. Stevie is a one in a zillion.😍 Not only is she the BEST singer with an unforgettable rasp but an amazing song writer too. 'Sara" is my favorite Fleetwood Mac song. I still listen to it all the time.❤
I saw Fleetwood Mac at an outdoor concert in Perth Australia a few years ago. It was torrential rain from beginning to end and 20,000 people sat in that rain for the whole concert. A magical night I will never forget, they were truly amazing. Christine McVie played Songbird as a thank you to the crowd at the show's end, it couldn't have gotten any better. ☮️
The official video for this tune is pretty good and worth seeing. (Pretty sure this album is from 1982). ('Songbird' would be a great followup and the live version of 'I'm So Afraid' from 1976 has incredible guitar work)
I'll try to answer a few of your questions :-)If you want to see how incredible a a guitarist Lindsey Buckingham is, watch him do a live solo of "Big Love" You've never seen fingers move so fast! This is not from the 70s, This album, Mirage, is from 1982. Usually, the person who sang the lead vocal is the one who wrote the song. They alternate writing between Stevie, Christine and Lindsey. After awhile you can easily tell who wrote what song as they all have pretty distinctive sounds and instrumentation.
More of the Fleetwood Mac magic. Each person in the group at the peak of his/her musical powers in the 70s and 80s. Plus, captivating engineering and production. And the irresistible rythym of just two, three musicians recorded properly.
Lindsay Buckingham is a highly underrated guitarist. His “finger-picking” style is unique in its sound, and contributes a lot to the song backing up Stevie Nicks. You can also hear his backing vocals when he shouts out from the background that Stevie Nicks sang earlier in the song: “[L]ightning strikes, maybe once, maybe twice”. First verse is Stevie, the second was Lindsay.
I really enjoy the way you express yourself regarding the songs you listen to.. I grew up with all these songs.. Try "Little Lie by Fleetwood Mac.. The other female in the band Christy McVie sings that one.
💙 One of my all-time favorites! Nobody like FM before or since. They are truly unique. I want to put on ballet slippers and dance. Too bad you didn’t see the actual video with the gorgeous Stevie!
The background behind most of this song is very sad actually. It came from a song that she started writing a few years prior but it took on different meaning when her best friend Robin died of leukemia. They had known each other since childhood and Robin was the only person who Stevie felt that she could trust completely. When she was diagnosed with leukemia, she was already several months pregnant and decided to forego cancer treatment so that she could save her baby. She deteriorated quickly and they ultimately needed to deliver the baby prematurely to save its life. That's probably why she sings about a child during the bridge.
Great way to describe it 'Free'! It just feels magical listening to Stevie's songs with an awesome band behind her. Wish you could have seen the video, check it out if you can. Yes, Lindsey's a fantastic guitar player. You must listen to 'Landslide' an absolute classic! Thanks for the smiles! 😁💖
Be sure to check out the official video, even if you don't do a reaction. The video is just as good as the song, and is the best music video of the 80s in my opinion.
There is an extended version on UA-cam where the guitar solo is longer. Stevie wrote the song for their 1982 album after releasing her first solo Album "Bella Donna" in 1981but she saved a great one for them.
Wow!! This takes me back to when I was 14 and I bought the single. Amazing song and thank you Jayvee for playing this one. Perhaps you can get more songs to play (not blocked) by reacting to ones with the lyrics up with the music? Just a thought.
Fleetwood Mac has so many different sounds. Just in this iteration there are three lead singers all with completely different styles. I really like eyes of the world from this album. Amazing duet of classical and electric guitar. They picked up another amazing guitarist for this album. One of their most underrated albums.
Her mystique has endured all these years. The chemistry between Stevie & Lindsey was a Godsend to Fleetwood Mac. I love the video of this. You should check it out when you get a chance 👍
You can't go wrong with Stevie Nicks but I think it's time to break out with some Christmas song reactions. Here's just a few to get you started: Stevie Wonder, "Someday at Christmas" Elton John, "Step Into Christmas" Vince Vance w/ Lisa Layne, "All I Want for Christmas is You" Billy Squier, "Christmas is the Time to Say I Love You" Karen Carpenter, "Merry Christmas, Darling" And let's not forget Adam Sandler's "Hanukkah Song" 😀

This is my favorite Fleetwood Mac tune. I love Stevie's husky voice and the whole tale that is told in the song.
My favorite as well. Timeless stuff.

Yes, I was back in my home town listening to this.
Beautiful 💖
I agree!
Lindsay Buckingham always slays it.
You should check out "You Make Loving Fun" or "Songbird." Christine McVie has an incredibly beautiful voice as well.
Or Say That You Love Me. Or Hold Me. Or Everywhere. Or Oh Daddy... or... or...
Agree 💯 percent 👍✌️♥️
Yesss....that bounding base in You Make Loving Fun!
Songbird is beautiful
My favorite Fleetwood Mac song. Always brings me to tears.
Lindsey Buckingham has a lot to do with producing there sound in most of their albums. He is a great talent
very much agreed
It's no coincidence that my favourite Fleetwood Mac album is "Tusk" - the one where they basically let Lindsey do whatever he damn well wanted!
@@jamesdignanmusic2765 That's exactly right, I got to see them live during that tour in Hawaii. I was stationed there when I was in the USMC. Linsey and Christine both created the sound.
Now your talking - Fleetwood Mac Gypsy.....yeah. I love this band.
My brother always said he was going to marry Stevie. Poor guy he would sing her songs and cry. Good pick Jay. ❤️❤️❤️
I like him already...
My late brother worshipped her too.
Hey, she’s still single!

You're the first reactor who noticed that guitar at the end.
Lindsey live is a spectacle in itself. He is amazing
There is a live video of , The Chain , by Fleetwood Mac from 1982 that's fantastic. Lindsey Buckingham does a outstanding guitar solo that shows how great of a guitarist he is.
The official video to this song is outstanding.
Yes! The video is SUBLIME.
Lindsay Buckingham is way way too underrated
oui ! il es t le centre du groupe !la guitare , les arrangements vocaux ! la production ....
Well Stevie is untouchable.

I think he’s rated right we’re he should be
Love him. So much talent
He also does backup vocals on everyone of their songs. And yes he is very talented guitarist, I can't say enough good things about him.
complètement !i;l est présent dan s tous les arrangements vocaux ,des jeux de guitare remarquables ces le son FLEEWODMAC !ok.

I had this song on a 45 vinyl record when I was in middle school. It was a gift from my aunt.
LOVE the way you groove on Fleetwood Mac!! Actually, I remember a road trip listening to 'Gypsy' just like you described!!!😻
To the gypsy that remains.... That line gets me every time. So bittersweet. Yes, Fleetwood Mac transports you to a magical place. 💕

Love this song & love Stevie’s voice. So distinctive, one of a kind ♥️
I was thinking the same thing, you certainly couldn't confuse stevie with anyone else
@@suemontague3151 yes indeed, I absolutely agree 🤗

I always say they are the soundtrack to my childhood. My dad's favorite and mine too ❤
💕
It was so funny to learn that most of their songs are about their relationships and encounters.
Jay, you always give me a reason to smile. Yes, this was from the 70's, and everyone was rockin out to their tunes.
1982 actually
@@fusiliers , ooops you are correct! Thank you
@@fusiliers a 70s band who was still drawing big crowds in the 80s, 90s, 2000s and 2020s.
1982, actually

Haha, yes, you feel it just like lots of us felt it decades ago. It was an unbelievable sound. Sends me reeling back in time.

I've loved this band since the 70s!
Stevie Nicks is my favorite ...so very amazing and talented!!
Love how open and pure your response is.
Live version of I'm so Afraid has Lindsey Buckingham on lead vocals, backed by McVie. He's so talented as well. Give it a chance and give it a listen.
Has to be the live version from The Dance
@@brendonm9601 1997 agreed, it gets better with age. That guitar solo gives me chills. 1982 live is next best sound quality that I could find.

I think The Chain was the only one different, as they used bits from various incomplete songs, so it was credited to all 5 members.

Stevie wrote this song. It's actually very similar in style to the songs she wrote for her solo career.
Only superficially as she lacked a good collaborator without Buckingham putting these things together for her
Finally some people are getting to this song! Been requesting for centuries lol. One of my favorites!!
