Both "Neural Network Compression" papers 1 from AMD and 1 from nVidia seem to both express a practical use for what was a hypothetical use of neural networks of using a different type of compression. If used it will go from a hypothetical use to an actual use of it. Both do some with the same downsides of all compression. You have the chance of lost data to make it take up less space. This is why lossy compression image formats like jpg isn't used for textures in 4k and 8k games nor in things it will be stretched over a big area. It is also why the HD texture packs some times are bigger than the game's original size. .png and other lossless formats save every pixel's exact color some including the alpha channel values too.
For why "Neural Network Compression" might be better is how the compute method works compared to normal here is an algorithm you can work out by hand in 1 way. The change will mean propriety formats and hopefully soon a standard that is almost as good if not better than said formats. It will also mean how UVMaps are compressed will change which will mean the game engine will have to be able to read it or in the other way around have the UVMap recomputed for the compression at build time.
There are white papers talking about how to shink a 1024x1024 image to 256x256 with neural networks but the reverse to get it back to what it was is the hard part. Maybe AMD and/or nVidia found the golden key to how to do it all with 256x256 images but have them be 1024x1024 images on the user side. This will mean a longer time after you download a game for it to uncompress and "install" the files. Install is in quotes as it basically is just move the files from the download folder to the installed games folder once everyone is uncompressed to the point it was uploaded as anyways.

I have a 5800x3d and I have pbo2 active. I think it depends on the mobo as I have Asus and it originally wouldn't let me OC but after some bios updates I can now
Helldivers 2 has now been fixed after they released a patch a few months ago which dropped the frame rate by 50%.
I just recently tried to play Fallout New Vegas on my 6800 XT and thought I was just screwed and that’s how it was. I tried some sort of mod fix, but I’m terrible with that kind of stuff so I gave up. Thank you for the good news!!

what's if wee combine FSR 3.1 Frame Generation with Lossless Scaling 2.9 Frame Generation ? does it make it win win ?
Adding a little bit about mem mode on AM5. According to tests, if one can acheive higher than 7600MT/s with optimal timing like CL40 or lower, the 1:2 7600MT/s is actually faster than 6400MT/s CL32 in 1:1. Even with 1:2 mode, 7600MT/s or 8000MT/s mem latency is lower than 6400MT/s in 1:1 thanks to higher frequency. So, if you have a decent memory kit that can overclock to nearly 8000MT/s, you would better go for higher frequency.
my biggest news would be FSR 3.1 in CP 2077
Just popping in to say that I would like to check out the news videos but with titles like this I just won't. I do watch the others with reasonable titles though, so keep up the good work on those.

Can’t wait for FSR 3.1 to come to cyberpunk so I can try using DLSS+FSR FG so I can finally try some decentish ray tracing on my 20 series gpu
That's never going to happen. It doesn't sell new nvidia graphics cards.
@@blegi1245 But its already happened in every game with FSR 3.1? Cyberpunk is advertised as one of the games that will be updated to 3.1 as well.
@@trailduster6bt cyberpunk 2077 is heavily nvidia funded tech demo for nvidias proprietary features for the purpose of selling new nvidia graphics cards. You can easily mod the game by simply changing config values and adding a different denoiser to make the path tracing mode get playable frame rates on high end graphics cards other than 4090. The game ships in a path tracing configuration that is unplayable on anything other than 4090 because if it didn't you wouldn't need to buy a 4090. Cd projekt told amd they were going to add fsr 3 to cyberpunk 2077. That never happened. I assume 3.1 won't ever be added either. The reason is that adding fsr 3 or 3.1 doesn't sell new nvidia graphics cards.
@@blegi1245 That is unfortunate, but makes sense.
@@trailduster6bt the upside is that you can mod all of that into cyberpunk 2077 by yourself. There are fsr 3 frame generation mods already and they are set up the same way fsr 3.1 is (separate temporal analysis for upscaling and frames generation) meaning you can use dlss upscaling instead of fsr with the fsr 3 mod.
Also why is there no Anti-Lag 2 with FSR FG? Doesn't make sense.
I wonder if AMD contacted those game companies about Anti-Lag 2? So far, only CS2 got officially implemented AL2.
@@swiftypopty1102 it should be apart of the FSR package just the same as FG. Like you want to reduce the latency as much as possible, thinking about it now it just seems that not much thought was put into it. Media channels need to talk about it otherwise our comments are just dust in the wind, meaningless

The idea that work I'm doing on my own computer is being sent out for review by some corporate overlord or government agency is highly objectionable. I get it, people shouldn't be doing the things they're doing that cause this reaction, but there has to be another answer.
Thanks for the news update.
Dude his looking at the quality. Digital foundry even it's at the bottom of the upscalers. What do you want the experts to say??
@@c523jw7 I'm talking about the section for Microsoft's AI features.
I have to disagree with the upscaling assessment that you made because it's a trade-off. DLSS softens the picture to get rid of shimmering which amounts to not giving you the resolution upscale. AMD on the other hand gives you a much better resolution upscale however that causes shimmering Especially at the performance upscaling.
I wonder if valve adds fsr 3 and frame gen with in steam os. Then fsr 1 still part of the is. When games don't support it fsr.
that cannot be done, fsr1 can be done that way due to how it works but fsr2 and fsr3 like dlss requires access to internal resources of a game that only the game developers can provide.
Ugh still no blackwell news
9600X $331 USD, I'm sure that has to drop, right?! lol
I'm really scared of those rumored price increases... And I'm still on AM4. Upgrading to AM5 would be too expensive. And waiting could increase the prices even more. Basically I would wish to know how long something like a 4070 Ti Super/4080 Super, 5700X3D/5800X3D and 16/32gb of DDR4 would stay relevant in the future. I'd almost like to go that route rather than build a completely new PC. So much better for my poor wallet. But in the long run, I'd still have to make the switch to a new generation. Which would either be AM5 or AM6 at the time. Currently got R5 3600 and GTX 1660 Super.
Figure that with a 16gb video card and a 5800x3d you would be able to play any game at a reasonable frame rate for 3-5 years. That is likely the cheapest upgrade path for you.
Dunno if this helps, just want to share my personal experience:
I have a 4070 ti super and some game at 1440p max setting (no dlss) like CP2077 used 15 gb of vram. Enabling dlss reduced it to around 10-12gb.
Got a 5700x on cheap sale, at average 70% utilisation so I think the 5700x3d will perform better?
Have 2x8gb memory, max usage while gaming is around 12-14 gb. Gonna upgrade it to 32gb.
@@First-Name_Last-Name Yeah, this sounds really tempting right now. I mean, I don't have to max out settings in games. That gets you plenty of frames if you play on just high settings. And then DLSS helps too if needed. 5700X3D is so much cheaper right now for some reason, although the difference is not that big. Especially at 1440p.
@@EdDale44135 5800X3D would be ideal, if it wasn't so much more expensive. And at 1440p, I'm not sure it matters too much which one I get?
@@Thunderhawk51 the 5800x3d is 10% - 30% faster than the 5800x in gaming. Hardware Unboxed dropped a giant CPU gaming test today that talks to the performance. Give it a watch and focus on the 5000 zen processor results. They test at 1080p to ensure the system is CPU bottlenecked. 1440 you would not see as large of a difference. 4k even less.
I will never put my faith on FSR3.1 if its quality I am after..lol..
Gave up and bought a 7800x3d anyways :P

13:55 Wooopsie Daniel. "Arc" is like "GeForce" or "Radeon". The first generation of Arc is Alchemist. Second generation Arc is Battlemage.
Yeah, unfortunately I often say the wrong one because they both start with 'A'. I know they are doing the alphabet thing for generations.
This would all be really great if stuff didn't cost so much. As such I don't really care.
This title is mmm
Nvidia 5000 will be another GimpFest and ridiculously expensive. So Intel Battlemage will still be attractive regardless of when it releases. Creative devs are coming to Arc as an alternative to Nvidia, many pundits in the industry are ignorant of this or are writing it off. Amd overall is not good for creative work and Intel will eclipse it in the coming years.

Have you started benchmarking with lossless scaling yet? I very much like to see some comparsion. Techyescity, thought it was competent.
exclamation points don't make it better
This is cool, but good lord FSR, DLSS, TAA all of them look horrible. Just boot an old game that has MSAA (like far cry 3) and see how clean that game looks even at 1080p and 4k just looks crystal clear. Heck even early ps4 gen games like Arkham Knight looks so clean and free from smear and ghosting during motion with all these temporal solutions.
MSAA looks sharper and shouldn't have any ghosting, but everything shimmers like crazy.
There is also DLAA. It looks better than any other AA solution, aside from 4x SSAA.
@@stangamer1151 DLAA looks better than DLSS but it still has ghosting and smearing. I don't like it at all. Oh and also blurry asf.
@@RiasatSalminSami DLAA always looks better than TAA and it is the least blurry AA tech of all the existing (except SSAA).
DLAA/DLSS can struggle from ghosting artifacts in some games, but it can be easily fixed via manual changing presets (DLSSTweaks) - C and E are the best in this regard.
It is also possible to change render scale of DLSS - 75% at 1440p looks better than native TAA and very similar to DLAA.
DLSS is a king, when it comes to image quality/performance ratio. You just need to tune it for your liking.
@@stangamer1151 It's absolute garbage. It being better than TAA doesn't make it good either. The image simply looks bad in motion because of how temporal solutions work. Many people are fine with it. I personally will never like temporal effects and just prefer MSAA/ SSAA of old games that looked crystal clear in both static scenes and especially in motion.
!!!!
DLSS is insane

Exactly my thoughts
pssr will probably be better than fsr 3.1

Is FSR FG better than DLSS FG?
DLSS FG is a margin of error better but both are close to being really good.
The question isn't which is better. The question is which your GPU can run. Unless you have an RTX 4000 series GPU, no DLSS FG for you.
@@andersjjensen Yeah that was a question i had in mind first too. Why is FSR 3.1 FG such a big deal but yeah, you can use a 2080 with DLSS and then have FG from FSR.
I really find it hard to call ARM on PC anything but a huge disappointment. Having zero reviews before any units are actually on sale will always be a massive red flag and now we're seeing why. It's terrible at gaming, emulation has compatibility issues, priced at a premium, and it's not even that efficient.
Anyone I knew that was interested in an ARM PC were hoping for it to bring _prices_ down like it did with phones, but all these laptops are laughably expensive with even the cheapest ones being priced comparably to Intel and AMD machines WITH dedicated graphics. Qualcomm doesn't have Apple's cultist following so seriously who are these intended for? It's easy to see why it got pushed out the door so fast because even with cherry picked best case scenarios it barely competes with existing x86 CPUs, and it's surely going to get annihilated by Strix and Lunar Lake later this year.
It can't game, mediocre at best with productivity, isn't nearly as power efficient as advertised, and sometimes straight up doesn't work but it's priced like Apple? It's easy to see why early sales are abysmal with more than a few users straight up returning them. If Qualcomm wanted to get any real foothold in PC market share they shouldn't have launched at such high prices. Now when they inevitably have to slash prices to move unsold laptops they're going to look like damaged goods, and going off every review I've seen that's exactly what they are.
When will these companies learn you go for the wallet _AFTER_ you introduce a killer product, not mediocre sh*t like this?
😁So I'm slowly starting to really like this naming scheme for the video titles. Thanks Daniel for the many updates👍

Fun fact for those that care and don't know, Adreno GPU's of ARM based PC's and phones, is based on licensed (older) AMD Radeon tech, Adreno = Radeon but all letters mixed up.
What is strange is that even older AMD GPU's, are way faster and way stable in games than the ARM Adreno ones, showing that part of the problems with ARM GPU may be driver/software related.
Wrong. Not fact at all. AMD nearly bankrupted itself by spending too much money on buying ATI in 2006, and in 2009 sold Qualcomm their Imageon (now Adreno) mobile GPU division they got from the ATI acquisition. So it is not licensed AMD Radeon tech, nothing to do AMD, it is old ATI stuff back in the day. If you want AMD tech in mobile GPU, only Samsung licensed them from AMD for their Exynos.
@@fleurdewin7958 You are right but I'm not wrong either by saying it is AMD tech! Why? Because since AMD bought ATI, all their tech and specially the RADEON brand, became part of AMD. Also see the (older) word in there? I didn't said it is was current AMD tech.
So IMO with all respect, you are just complaining about a technicality and for the sake of it. AMD GPU division is just ATI renamed after all.
Again Adreno GPU's are indeed based on old ATI tech but ATI was bought by AMD, so in a sense they are based on AMD tech now. You also failed to acknowledge that Adreno is a anagram of Radeon and the later IS a brand of AMD. Enough said.
I love how you can simplify topics and break them down to a simpleton like myself hehe
On my 3070, FSR frame gen seems to work pretty well in Horizon Forbidden West. 4K DLSS balanced. About a 50% boost of frame rate. 90-105 fps net result.
