    People use her songwriting credits to discredit her artistry all the time. A film director doesn't do everything on a film, but they hire people to execute THEIR vision. Everyone she works with talks about how involved she is.

    although beyoncé has all of writers, she uses a lot of samples that the average listener wont be able to recognize so that's why the credits are always so much. she's also always been involved in the production. even when she was in destiny's child she's always produced the music and IS the brain behind everything.

    • @keithwilson3900
      @keithwilson3900 Місяць тому +5

      Exactly! And there's nothing wrong with collaboration. It also tells you what an incredible leader she is. Although she's an amazing writer as well and was the first Black woman to win an ASCAP award

      She also wrote songs for DC, her and Solange had a heavy had in a lot of DC songs, I believe she co wrote independent women, survivor and Bootylicious, she stopped being heavily involved in writing once she went solo (she said it in a early video ) so she could focus soley on delivery and production.

    It’s so interesting to me how black vs white people view Beyoncé’s music. Especially her first album being mostly R&B. I grew up listening to this kind of music so every single song on this album was a hit in mine & every black household I knew of NO skips. Like to the point where I can’t even comprehend someone not “vibing” with any of these songs, but I guess that’s what happens when you grow up listening to an artist for 20+ years! Beyoncé during this era (and honestly still to this day) was the ULTIMATE IT GIRL.

    • @CASantos
      @CASantos Місяць тому +9

      Right, cuz, like all his least favorite stuff was my favorite and vice versa lmao. Tbf it may not be a "white" thing, p sure he's Australian, and I don't think they do r&b much there, lol. It's much bigger, obviously here in the US, and UK which had the whole soul/blues revival, etc.

    • @bennshouts
      @bennshouts  Місяць тому +1

      Yeah I've not really been exposed to much R&B, and don't really like listening now, but I think that's come from not growing up with it. I'm also a huge pop listener, so slow stuff like this is very different and difficult for me to latch onto haha. BUT I love that music can do that to people!

    Seeing this in my sub box left me (pun intended) speechless. The fact that you mention some of these songs sounding like Rihanna and Gaga-who were in high school at the time-is a glimpse into Beyoncé’s incomparable legacy.
    Also as far as writing, she has definitely only written a handful of songs on her own. But we don’t expect a great actor to write every movie they’re in, nor does the fact that I didn’t write a song mean I cant relate it to deeply. Beyoncé has amazing executive skills for choosing songs or putting together writing camps, and it’s been extensively documented that she’s involved in absolutely every single detail of her work (much more than people who I love that write their own songs but care very little about the idea of a project as whole).
    When we get to her most artistically and culturally impactful works Self-titled through Cowboy Carter, keep in mind how much intention and passion she puts into the creation of a project rather than focusing on whether on not she’s the only writer. She credits who she works with or samples + highlights marginalized artists so much that there’s only been a few times in her career that I’ve disagreed with how she handled the creative process.

    I'm new to your channel. I've been listening to Beyoncé's music from the very beginning. It's amazing to watch you discover her as an artist instead of allowing other people's ideas prevent you from experiencing something different while keeping an opened mind. The one thing to know about Beyoncé is that she's an incredible live performer and entertainer. She's up there with Michael, Tina and Prince; some of her biggest influences. It's what sets her apart from other singers. Get into her live performances as well, you won't regret it. Her music changes so much over the years, it's going to be great watching you. P.S. Love the mullet!

    I’m so happy your doing this, I’ve been a Beyoncé fan since she went solo I’m 29 so i missed the destiny’s child early era. I just want to give suggestion and a little context to help.
    B’Day: it’s a party, still heavy R&B funk vibes but she is a r&b artist who has turned into an everything artist so it makes sense. (The Beyoncé experience was my fav, it’s on UA-cam if you wanna watch and see her live for the first time)
    I am Sasha Fierce: my least fav now that I’m grown i loved it back then though. (I am yours, is WELL worth the watch for a live performance of the album)
    4(the beginning of grown Beyoncé) OMG i listened to 4 so hard she was pregnant with Blue during 4 so very much in love. I can’t listen to this anymore because of how much i played it out(listen to it at night so you can vibe and close off your mind)
    Beyonce(Self Titled): Must watch with the visual album, this is the surprise drop album
    Lemonade: Must listen with the visual album, its themes of black womanhood, being a wife, a mother, a daughter and also obviously the infidelity.. spoiler they get back together at the end nobody mentions that part LOL
    The Gift:Ifyou want to, Black is King is amazing)
    Renaissance: i love Renaissance, no visuals just vibes
    Cowboy Carter: love this as well
    I’m excited for you, i hope you enjoy 😘❤️ also her voice will change over time in a good way.
    Edit: OMG i missed Coachella, it’s on Netflix i think she was the first black woman to headline so it’s a must.

    This reaction has made me really curious as to who your top 3 favorite artists of today are. Depending on who, I just get the feeling it will explain a lot lol. I like this album, though it's not in my top 5 of her discography. Dangerously in love and Bday are more R&B ish, and I love r&b. Then when you get to Sasha Fierce and 4, that's when it gets more pop ish, I love pop as well. Then I'd say self-titled, Lemonade, The Gift, Renaissance, and Cowboy Carter are where it get really experimental and diverse. I'd advice that you throw any negative and uninformed preconceived notions out the window. You'll find that the further you get into her discography, the more depth and intention there is behind the music. Meaning everything certainly won't be all upbeat, lighthearted, and in your face. Some songs will be very emotional, some will be commercial, some will be empowering, some will be sensual, sad, happy, aggressive, dark, etc. Point being, keep an open mind. Whatever picture you had painted of Beyonce, may as well not exist anymore, because you don't know much about her and her artistry yet. At the very least, you'll respect her a hell of a lot more by the end of her discography.
    My top five favorites are:
    1. Self-titled
    2. Lemonade
    3. 4
    4. Bday
    5. Cowboy Carter

  • @garyklich

    My idea would be for you to do the albums in order and after each project react to its visuals, so you keep that same energy from the album’s reaction and now translated into the visuals to see her vision for the record. I personally it would be better like that (more so with albums like BEYONCÉ & Lemonade which are complete full visual albums) 🪄

  • @keithwilson3900
    @keithwilson3900 Місяць тому +5

    Beyonce is a collaborator. She's written songs and she's had writers come in to help bring her vision to life. People who dislike her used this as a way to discredit her, but she understands that she cannot do this alone. All the writers say that she's very involved and a lot of them have called her a "creative genius" 😊

    I am definitely looking forward to see some other Beyonce reactions on your channel. I am not into R&B either, so this is my least favourite album of hers. But the rest of her discography is quite diverse, she touches on so many genres and what I think it really puts her up on a piedestal is the way she is able to perform live. In my opinion she is right up there with Michael Jackson. Loved your reaction❤ and if you are looking for free sources to see live performances or visual albums with high quality, let me know and I can share some

    Also, Beyoncé does write but she shines more at freestyling (her rappier songs) and arranging vocals. So every harmony you hear she created from scratch. She also produces and is known to bring producers out of their element and have them make things they’d never think of. The songwriting rumor started in 2006 over Irreplaceable when she said she wrote it for women. But people took it too literally because she had always credited Ne-Yo as the main songwriter. Throughout this journey, you will realize a lot of bad stuff you hear about her is made up.

    Beyoncé has always been opened with collaboration with different writers and producers. Oddly. she gets hate for “stealing” songs but get hate for crediting so many people on her songs. I think Beyoncé reached the point in her career where she was satisfied with not trying to prove herself as a writer because she was the first black woman to earn ASCAP songwriter of the year back in 2003. You will see that there’s a trend with samples in Beyoncé’s catalog but now its more intentional with renaissance and cowboy carter because she using them to highlight past, current or forgotten artists of house, disco, dance, country, and rock music. Overall, Dangerously In Love screams early 2000s young woman and it’s one of best r&b albums from that period. A great starting point to finding herself as a solo artist but still acknowledging her roots as a member of a girl group, which proves true with the track “Dangerously in Love 2” since it is a cover of Destiny’s Child’s “Dangerously in Love”
    Angie Beyincé is Beyoncé’s cousin, she wrote on B’day too (I believe)

    Pertaining to Beyonce’s songwriting she actually beginning of her career she was a sole writer and writers would come in and tweak, however I would say bday and after she started getting writing camps. She still writes but not as much as she used too. Some of her best on her recent albums she was one of the sole writers. She’s already gotten the accolades early in her career I feel her focus has shifted.

  • @CASantos
    @CASantos Місяць тому +4

    Sounds like a stan thing to say, but it really is the case in my experience that most people who 'hate' Beyoncé or think she's "overrated" haven't given her material a shot and just go off of what they assume she does or from hearing single ladies at weddings or whatever☠️
    That said, this was probably her weakest album or 2nd. Still some gems, but at this point, she was still "just a pop star" under her label and dad's management, without the creative control she would eventually get after firing him. So it's basically a collection of singles rather than like a body of work with something to say. BDay may be a bit more exciting, but most people consider her stepping into her "albums artist" era towards her self-titled album, her 2010s-20s material. I'd say 4, but that's like her most r&b leaning album, so again, may not be your thing, we'll see😅

    This is late but to your question about whether Beyoncé is involved in her writing, yes, yes she is.
    That’s something a lot of her antis will use against her and it’s a very tired narrative. Beyoncé works with other writers yes, but to think someone as passionate about music as her doesn’t write her own songs is the stupidest take I’ve ever heard.
    The people she works with have said if they have the lyrics she has the melody, if they have the melody she has the lyrics. There’s nothing wrong with working with other talented artists as Beyoncé constantly uses her fame and influence to give a platform to lesser known musicians.
    Truth is there’s no winning with her regardless of what she does. If Beyoncé writes it alone they’re gonna call it bad or say she has ghost writers. If she writes with another person they’ll say she can’t write music at all. People will always find something to flaw her for.

    Lol anytime there’s a Beyonce hater they never know the true reason for hating her but let me tell you her talent once you hear all these albums specially when she gets deeper and more experemnetal starting with the lemonade album I’m sure you will regret the underserved hate she gets cus honestly there’s no true reason other then she’s black and super talented and credits every person she works with. And anyone says she can’t write a song is wrong cus she won an award for somg writing for bootylicious may seem like a simple song but it still went number one. Beyoncé is multi talented but puts her focus into her voice which makes her a true vocalist. She’s been co signed by Prince, MJ, Stevie wonder, Diana Ross, Tina Turner and the list goes on so I just hope you open your mind and maybe don’t listen to what you may have heard or tthink she is also watching some of her documentaries may help you get to know a little more about the artist she is.

    You ARE such a Leo, lol. Beyonce is predominantly R&B/Hip Hop/Pop. Angela Beyince is Bey's cousin not her mom. I remember bringing DIL & Mariah's Rainbow with me to a summer writing program. We all sat in the common area watching the live release of the Crazy in Love music video on Mtv. Your bf's right though, The Writing's on the Wall is a fabulous album. 13-16M copies old (depends on source), two #1 hits, & two Grammys.
    As for DIL, 1) Five Grammys, two #1 hits, two Top 5 hits, & the music videos are fab. 2) Baby Boy spent even longer at #1 than CIL. 3) I had Hip Hop Star on REPEAT. Big Boi, the rapper's verse included in the video, is from Outkast. They remain the only male rappers to win Album of the Year for Speakerboxxx/The Love Below which was released the same year DIL. 4) Signs is THAT song. People stay referencing it.
    5) Luther Vandross is everything. He was a singer's singer & worked with the very best including Mariah. He died in 2005 not long after his final album, Dance with my Father, won four Grammys. It is his magnum opus, it was his only album to go to #1, and it also includes their cover duet which makes more sense on his album.
    6) The Beyonce Experience is STILL my favorite Bey tour. The arrangements of the DIL songs is *chef's kiss*. the live version of DIL from that tour is WAY better than the album version & is probably her single best live vocal performance. 7) The album ends, for me, at DIL.

      @bennshouts what do you think defines pop music? Its a genre that spans decades since its inception. Its also the shortened version of popular music. What else does it mean?

    • @livinginstereo

      Also there are sub genres beyond that. Do you think a band like Nirvana is just Rock? Or are they grunge? Is Daft Punk Pop? Or French Electro?

    It’s so weird to me that people can completely write off artists without even listening. I was raised to be open minded and give a music catalog a chance before I form opinions on music artists, so it’s always baffling that others don’t.
    I honestly feel like a lot of people do have some weird jealousy towards Beyonce and the longevity of her career/fandom. Because it’s always with her that people get really weird and braggadocio about writing her music off without even giving it a chance.

    luther vandross is a gay legend. he is one of the most successful artists from the 80s and 90s. super huge and beyonce did say she looked up to him alongside other artists from that era.

    This album was a letdown for me after the fun Destiny's Child albums. Especially The writing's on the wall I enjoyed a lot back in the days. I still like Me, myself and I and Crazy in love. But a lot of the other tracks I thought were somewhat forgettable. Especially the second half. Hope you'll also dive into the classic Destiny's child albums, at least writing's on the wall.
