IMHO, and i have a large collection of synth icons, there is a very special magic in the OBX sound that Marko's stunning quality video makes us hear and feel. All sounds make me shiver, some even make me cry, litterally.

Such a great synth, just beautiful sounds this thing has. So advanced for its time. I can see why bands like Japan used this. Glad to see this video to cheer me up. My dad is ill in hospital at the moment and it’s great to come home and see this video waiting. The Oberheim has such an endless amount of Incredible sounds that are super fascinating to listen to ,and you certainly can create amazing soundscapes with this Iconic synth. Another favorite synth of mine is the ARP Solina String Ensemble with the small stone phaser. Those 2 Synths are 70s and 80s Iconic Masterpieces I could listen for days if new music was released using those two Synths. Thankfully you got this super cool spacey machine that has such incredible built in sound effects. Wonderful work you do 🎹🎹 🎵🎶

It was my dream to own an OB-X series synth, but today, I'm pretty satisfied with the software versions that exist. They are capable of covering the sounds I need fairly close.
If I did ever buy a real OB, I'd get the new OB-X8. It includes the features, and sounds, of the OB-X, Xa and 8 all in one synth. It can even read sound patch tapes made for them.

Yes the X8 is a great synth but the sound is different to the X and Xa. So I would say a modern synth with a modern OB sound.
Obx cost 20 grand
@@oholm09 The new OB-X8 is 5 grand, and compatible with the sound patches from the OB-X. There could be some minor differences, but from the comparison videos, when A/B tested it sounded pretty close.
I'm perfectly happy with a good software clone however. And there is a good OB-X software clone available.

@@classicarcadeamusementpark4242 don't convince youself. It's way different, I've bought and sold it immediately, because I understood I cannot get magic and soul of 80 analog synth, you just get representation of it, not whole body.

Unfortunately I never store the sounds. You can find a few sound tutorials in my old vids
