I know predatory, soulless corpo profiteering is having another boom these days. But the "user" and "good business" perspectives do not _have_ to be mutually exclusive. Just in the gamer space, _GOG_ is percieved pretty damn favorably on a user level and yet they're still profitable. In a different but similar category, _Valve_ is also percieved quite favorable - and they're probably the most profitable non-outright-scam entity in the whole damn industry. I'm not suggesting either is perfect. Just that they're good examples of good user experience being good (or even insanely so) business. And, examples where that is a central part of their business model, not just a nice side effect.

Some of those Nitro trials can be used even if you already had another trial, during the year. A good example of this, is the Epic Games one, that's currently happening.

The only few good perks to Nitro is profile customization, bigger file upload limit, and sending custom emojis anywhere, but those have easy alternatives. All that Nitro stuff is immediately gone after day 1, so it's not even worth it. Even if they did allow you to boost, it wouldn't matter since that would be gone 3 days after the nitro ended anyway. There's really nothing great about this feature, other than Discord inventing another way to sucker kids into watching ads and inflating game downloads.

I don't think that people who pay for Nitro are going to upload a 500MB file or stream in high quality every single day. While I agree this feature will most likely result in ads, the current one you can obtain by just watching a youtube video you would watch anyways. You can literally open the watch together on your own server, and watch a video alone. Exactly what NTTS seems to have done. So in that sense, you don't even have to watch an ad at all for this one, for now.

I'm with nitro for like 2 months now, when it was supposed to end a long time ago. No, I didn't pay for more neither did it pay automatically. And, with this nitro, I was able to send the 2 week trial that you can give to friends, I gave with to my alt and same thing happened. So I basically have free nitro probably forever, since I can just give the nitro to my another account if it ever ends. I don't want it to be fixed, obviously.
What this really is is just like people said - to make people “keep their eye on” quests. This is just a cheap ploy to increase ad engagement that they can do for free
