Great idea for using the pieces of ribbed bags, but I would not be comfortable leaving those ribbed pieces still in there because the fact that you were able to pull the pieces out means they were NOT sealed into the mylar. I don't think your method would work if you wanted a true vacuum seal. It would leak through that piece. Still, its a good idea for non-vacuum sealing of Mylar.

Yes, I'm not too trusting of them. I usually pull out and reseal that spot, or since I'm using an iron I just iron beyond the strip. Thanks for the watch and words!

Exactly what I was looking for. I got tired of checking my SHTF food stash of canned and dry goods that are way past their best buy date. I knew that Mylar bags were a things, but didn't know how to go about it and I feel like I learned everything I needed with your video. Thanks man!

I knew there was a reason I keep telling my wife to save our reused food saver bags into their 3rd and 4th times in cycle...

You can also use the ridged lines above the seal strip on a Ziploc bag. You can also use freezer bags by doing this.

Another tip to keep the air out: iron around the edges of the strip inside the bag and create a pocket in which the strip can slide out.

Smart!! Thanks for this hack, I've been struggling with mylar bags. I've tried just ironing them to seal them but can't seem to get out all the O2, I increased the number of O2absorbers and it helped, but I really like how you utilize and explain the why's and how's of usi g the sealer. Thanks!!

Follow up with a few seconds of iron to make sure seal holds over time. Thanks for watching and commenting !

Outstanding innovation. Always thought there had to be a way to use a vac sealer on mylar!

👍👍 you could've used a hair iron to seal the both unsealed corner while it's connected to vac machine.

You still need to heat seal the bag becayse the vacuum sealer is not enough over time.

cool for some things, but not long term food storage, this method doesn’t let you know your O2 absorbers worked, with a good absorber and right size your rice will get rock hard and let you know they worked

I've used a flat iron but I am starting to think it works the mylar too much. 330 x 5 gal buckets.
