- Mercedes didn't bring a facelift to their existing model line, they bulldozed the whole thing and replaced it with Las Vegas. It is mind blowing seeing every centimeter of the interior bathed in ambient light, contrasting colors that make it look like a painting, animations that make you smile every time they start, and the entire dash made of displays with some vents woven in. The Hyperscreen makes a Tesla look like a first generation iPhone but you're driving a 14 Pro. Now the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 isn't flawless, it still needs some help in the driver assistance department, but at least it's an incredibly fun place to be.

I doubt it depreciates that much. A three year old model x is still worth 75 of original purchase price. So long as the cars do well which by the way they probably will and software updates come out people will pay for them. Only electric cars that are abandoned or cut off by the manufacturer drop. In general they hold their value quite well.

I ended up driving one of these as a loaner for a week. It really is the ultimate driving experience and sooo luxurious. The screens, LED lighting, the heated/cooled seats, the massage chairs, the feel, the smell, the sounds, the exterior lighting projections... it's just a whole new level. The real question is, how long until the electronics give you trouble?
I don’t know but there’s a lease deal right now for $780 a month, wildly cheap for the amount of car you get 😳😳😳

@@jean-marcandjoshua-petsjournal I have no idea what that subscription costs 😂 I don’t think you really need it unless you want cell service and the web browser. Most of the car has built in voice commands that you don’t need to pay for like “volume up, next track”

The four-wheel steer is impressive, but I immediately wondered what it would be like to back into a spot. I'm glad you covered that at the end. Very nice car, but I will have to overcome my fear of fire when charging an electric vehicle indoors if I purchase one.

This and the Lucid Air are my two favorite EVs of all time.
The loaded Lucid with that 500 mile range is pretty epic... it's massage also shuts off after 30 minutes and the reps couldn't explain why. 💯

Have you got to drive a Lucid yet? I haven't had the chance to drive an EQS yet. The lucid was quite impressive.
I missed my window to drive one at Barrett-Jackson by 5 minutes... they said come back at X time and it'll be easy to get your own car, showed up 5 minutes later and they said they were done for the day. Still salty about that, the Lucid is incredible 😬

The EQS is amazing! Such awesome tech, the voice control will do everything for you, also if the driver has their eyes on the passenger screen for too long the car cameras pick up on it and dims the passenger screen. You should also try the sat nav on full 3d it's crazy it's like Google earth images.

The door jambs not painted the same color is inexcusable in a $130k+ "luxury car." The hyperscreen is cool, but some prefer tactility. I see this as a massive part of the Uber Black line-up in the next couple of years.

At this point I think someone might have already answered, but the “R” on the left side door means that you can control the passenger side controls in case your passenger left the heating/cooling on after being dropped off

The brake pedal with regen is probably because some areas are pulling people over for not stepping on brakes, the police where I live want brake lights. I got stopped because “you never slowed down from 60 to 50 for that curve but I clocked you at 45”

After seeing what other auto manufacturers are going with I can say that Germans have lost the touch with the consumer when it comes to the car styling. The best I can come up with to describe the looks of this car is bleh.

Just can't get behind electric until there is a nationwide fast charging network that is standardized and works with all electric cars.
Most people don't drive 39 miles a day so charging at home works fine. If you have a level 2 charger installed.

Hey if you ever get access, I'd love to know what service looks like on this very software-driven vehicle. Does the dealership use wifi and connect it to a remote tech support service? Is it all done in-house with a laptop? Is there an obd2 on these or is it something new? Thanks.

Great review! Hadn't seen this before. I'm curious what other buttons or knobs you'd like to see inside. I feel like volume and AC/Heat basic controls are things we all need knobs or buttons for so we don't have to take our eyes off the road. This vehicle is a marvel of technology, and I am a computer guy like you, and I have NO interest whatsoever in owning this thing. It is nothing but a rich person's car to buy and have professionally maintained, and will likely be thrown away in 10 years when some motor inside breaks and costs more to replace than the whole car is worth. I see nothing but a HUGE list of problems to solve, and soon. I'm curious what type of tech support the dealerships get when they need to service these! I'd love to know if you find out.

Nice job. Have you ever considered starting a you tube channel about cars ? Maybe people would watch it and you could make a living doing it! Just a thought. Hey JR, I may be wrong, but isn't there a scroll wheel on the steering wheel that will adjust the audio system volume? I don't think you have to reach over to the touchscreen to adjust the volume. Well, I just downloaded the User Manual PDF, and there's no scroll wheel, but there's a rocker under your right thumb on the steering wheel, but I'm sure you knew that but preferred a rotating knob.
I wish they would not use the horn for arming the cars security system; that goes for all the auto makers. A nice quiet chirp is enough.
All those lights, screens and sounds....this is truly a car for the 8 second attention span crowd.

There's just so many options even at this base level. I don't see myself wanting, much less needing, the majority of these things. Especially not if I have to pay that price tag for it and still end up with a vehicle that looks like a glowing jelly bean mom van.

I spent 12 years driving nothing but new Mercedes Benz and this would be a great lease vehicle but you would have to be a fool to buy one. Sadly Mercedes has followed so many other auto makers down the disposable market. In 10 years this will be a brick in a junk yard.

Great looking car. Being from Mercedes you can count on it costing a fortune to maintain after about four years. It will go through suspension components faster than the gas cars. No doubt it will need seals and bearings and all those fancy actuators on the rear wheels.

Can't say I'm a fan of all the capacitive controls, looks cool, but the lack of tactility is a huge problem for distraction-free driving. That said, also not a fan of all the LEDs, again cool, but distracting and that's a completely unnecessary load on the battery for aesthetic. Lack of serviceability is a concern for me, and I wouldn't describe the 12v battery as easy to get to, especially if it dies.
Screens are cool too, but just give me a double-din with an iDataLink kit... All that tech is going to be outdated in varying degrees five years down the road, and at least that way I can update it later on.

Excellent review of the Mercedes EV, it looks amazing. It has a high amount of technology features but I did not catch the driving range with 100% charge. I cannot imagine someone taking this vehicle off road. Gabe was on it as the navigator/copilot..lol. How much extra for the owners manual?
Talk about the Tesla/Merk merg. Tesla is "considering" buying Mercedes, merging the brands and the tech, I don't feel like this is new news...This car is the pilot program for that endeavor.

I seems a lot of new cars share similar instrument cluster it's almost like there manufactured by the same vendor just different options.
Honestly, the problem with EVs is the charging times and charger issues. And depending on where you live not having enough chargers in your area. If you buy an EV, buy a home charger.

Guess I am just old because I want 16" fronts with 18" in the rear along with real sized sidewalls to give a sporty yet comfortable ride. Plus all that LED lighting must stay off unless the doors are open.
