As a person who longs to collect these figures but can't start yet, I found these tips and insights into your own process, goals and rules very interesting indeed. Your preplanned desire to "theme" shelves is delightful and will surely pay off in the long run. I know from watching and collecting other things that a collector goes through stages, where they start with a firm guideline "I'll onlly collect this" and then over time their aims shift, or addiction grows, and they slowly change that policy. Long ago I swore I'd only collect jigsaw puzzles made by Gibsons because they are, imo, the best quality made puzzles out there, but that long since disappeared and I have stacks of puzzles from other companies now. (Side note: I love your jigsaw piece pendant!) Two bits of technical feedback about your video. Firstly, I really appreciated and found it useful that you've divided the timeline into sections. That must be extra work for you but it adds to the quality of your video and let me go back and forth to points to rewatch them with ease. Highly appreciated. Secondly, regarding background noises. Really, don't let them bother you. Real life happens. Planes fly overhead, sirens go past the window, wind howls around the house etc. Mics are rather good these days at being directional and so mostly just picking up what you aim them at rather than what is arround you, and our brains are trained to filter out what we're not specifically listening to anyway. I didn't notice the rain at all until you kept drawing attention to it (although I am hard of hearing so may not be the best example) Thank you for making these videos, they are always a pleasure to watch.

I started modestly with collecting figures, due to several factors. But now I am more and more picky, xD. It is definitely good to have some guides, otherwise you can easily get out of the direction you set.
Otherwise, I held out until the end, because it's nice to listen to you.

It’s so funny how our tastes can change over time. I originally started my collection wanting only anime characters I knew and liked/loved, no lewds, no bunnies, no nendoroids, and no prize figures. Now I buy mostly original characters or characters of which I don’t consume the source material, bunnies and lewds/cast offs, and I actually really fell in love with Taito, Furyu, and PUP prize figures. I also have caved and got a couple nendoroids. So planning that way didn’t really help me hahaha. Maybe I got more lax on my self control and went the “treat yo’self” route…but if I hadn’t I wouldn’t have some of my ultimate fav figures of all time.

I love how at the end you kept repeating “no” for budgeting as if to tell yourself you couldn’t have that figure 😂 I do the exact same. Some great rules here. Funnily enough my collection is kind of the opposite of your rules with a lot of original characters in it but it’s part of what I love about your channel I love seeing your collection as I love demon slayer and jujutsu kaisen and have managed to resist buying any so far! I think clean simple bases look really elegant for collections and love that aesthetic! But I’m definitely partial to a dynamic base 😉

I have to try reinforce to myself that in not allowed it 🥲 thank you! Oooh your collection must be so beautiful though because original characters are so stunning! Ah thank you, I'm glad that even though I have the opposite to you that you enjoy seeing my collection and what I have to say! It really means a lot to me 💜✨

@@TheShySheep It’s just I really love myethos figures! I think it’s also to do with the ‘what’s your budget?’ rule you just get so much quality and design from a Myethos figure the only issue is there’s no coming back, now most figures look really expensive in comparison 🙈. By the way did you see the new nezuko greyscale by anixplex from wonhobby? She looks so lovely! She’s based on the LN cover illustration, I think she might be my first demon slayer figure… 🙊

@@clariscollection I definitely understand that like when you look at what other figure manufacturers are putting out and at what price it really is like why is it that expensive 🥲 YESS!! I love her so much and I'm so in love with the manga covers of DS! I'm so excited to see her painted, she will be an instant pre-order for me 😍 you should definitely get her 👀

Really great points! It is super tempting to just go wild with preorders but if you really set some limits you end up with a collection you're much happier with! Conversely I do sometimes impulse preorder XD great video as always!

Having a cool down period and not immediately buying is, I think, the best piece of advice for a figure collector. Unless it's something you have absolutely no doubt about buying, waiting a week or more is a very good idea. During the cool down period I always weigh the things I like about the figure against the things I don't exactly care for and then ask myself if the likes are enough that I can ignore the dislikes. I've only once ordered a figure while making myself ignore one thing that was driving me crazy. It was an Albedo figure. Her hair, her wings, her dress, her pose, everything perfect except for the fact that they painted her shoes brown. BROWN. Her hair and wings are black, her dress is white with gold accents and they give her brown shoes? They should have been black or gold or even white to compliment the rest of her, but no, the shoes are brown. I ended up cancelling my preorder because I just couldn't let it go. It was bugging me to death. I definitely should have gone with my gut and not ordered no matter how much I loved the rest of her. So yes, cool down period and if you're still unsure after a week or two or three, don't buy, because you don't like the figure enough and something else will come along that you absolutely love.

Love your pop up commentary on your own video, it makes your videos so entertaining. 😂 These are great tips, I’m trying to make sure I keep my vision for my collection in mind when I order. Love how you describe how happy your collection makes you, I feel the same way about mine.
Quick question: do you look at Hatsune Miku as an original character? I know she’s not, but I’m not into vocaloids so I think of her as an original character.

Hahaha I'm so glad you like it 😂 editing Megan always has something to say 😂 thank you so much! So glad you enjoyed it! Yeah it's easy to get carried away because all the figures are just so pretty.
Ah I'm glad that you also feel that way about your collection 💜
I listen to some of miku's songs so in that way no but I also am not a major Miku fan so in that way yes if that makes sense? I probably make no sense 😂

Great tips but I sense some emotional struggles when you advise on how to think/plan and say no 😂
Personally, I practise a buffer period of 2 weeks before buying something significant - if I find that I still like it after that period, I will go ahead.
Similar to your #1, I set a list of things I will definitely not buy into - in order to help curb it, I forbid myself to browse any of those figure types. Through this method, I also form a list of items that I will definitely pre-order for the year.
I like to think that most of us are not indisciplined spenders but the entire trend of collection broadly with the aftermarket situation can affect our judgement (like if I don’t pre-order this, it may never re-run or I have to pay 2-3 times more).
On the other hand, it’s also a matter of patience and impulse. I am someone who is new into figure collection and unable to preorder some of the older items so aftermarket was the only way to go. There is often temptation to give in and buy as the patience of waiting to slowly procure each of the grail becomes very trying. When collection (of anything really) is involved, I often struggle to think logically till my wallet is busted🥲.

I employ the wait tactic too. It is easy to like many figures, but it isn't healthy to buy all you like. I keep some tabs open so I can check back if they are sold out, or if they are still available, and then try and and get a feeling for if I want them or not. In most of the cases they are not figures who fall under my favorite themes, so they are not must haves.

    • @TheShySheep
      @TheShySheep  2 роки тому

Definitely agree! It's super helpful to see how you're feeling after the initial hype of the figure because it can be so easy to get caught up in it!

I'm (among a few other themes) a collector of original characters. That in itself is great! Lots of freedom and no pricetags that get inflated by lience fees (or the company thinking they can milk fans).
