A massive underrated film with an interesting backstory. It was produced by Cannon Films in the UK which took over EMI films. Cannon was an Israeli film company specialising in schlocky teen flicks like Porkies. Cannon also released Highlander which it inherited from EMI, Cannon almost destroyed UK film industry due to films like Life-force bombing. Life force is now seen rightly as a classic horror film. Life force includes who’s who of British theatrical and TV acting talent including Patrick Stewart, Frank Finely,, Peter Forth, Nicholas Ball and many others seen in both UK tv and Ken Russel films
I enjoyed this movie when I first saw it and still do, when Scream released a Steelbook edition of it a few years back I picked it up on Amazon. Think I got it on sale at the time because the price has since gone up on Amazon.
@@NoMoreMonsters That’s awesome, I try to collect steelbooks for my favorite movies and if I can find some at good prices. I cover lots of unique physical media topics on my channel and collections, feel free to stop by to enjoy some videos and so we can talk your favorite movies my friend.

hey Ken. Happy 75th birthday to JOHN DYKSTRA! Dykstra is an American special effects artist, pioneer in the development of the use of computers in film-making and recipient of three Academy Awards, among many other awards and prizes. He was one of the original founders of Industrial Light & Magic, the special effects and computer graphics division of Lucasfilm. He is well known as the special effects lead on the original Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope , helping bring the original visuals for lightsabers, space battles between X-wings and TIE fighters, and Force powers to the screen. He also led special effects on many other movies, including Batman Forever, Batman and Robin, Stuart Little, X-Men: First Class, Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2.
I’ve always loved this movie. As a sci-fi fan and someone who loves weird and cheesy movies, this ticks all my boxes. And you’re right, it’s played very straight and I think that is what sells the movie. At least for me. Glad to see you enjoyed it Ken!
I actually still need to watch this movie. I decided against the 4k because I have the shout blu ray with slip. I'm excited to watch vampires in space lol.
I remember really liking this one when it first came out. I had picked it up on VHS and rewatched it. I had the movie on DVD from the original MGM release IIRC and then I had to pick up the 4K. Steve Railsback is such an underrated actor. You need to see him in The Stuntman with Peter O'Toole.
i believe i saw scenes from this film on a documentary about cannon films called electric boogaloo the wild untold story of cannon films, and it explained in that documentary Not only about this film, But all sorts of different films
I first saw it when I was a kid in the late 80s. I really, really like this movie, but its in that category of 'so bad its good.' It's a mess, but its also a lot of fun. Its interesting that everyone thinks this was a low budget movie, but as you state, it was quite the opposite. It cost almost as much as Alien and Aliens COMBINED.
Were the discs scratched? I’ve heard many say that theirs were scratched. The director’s cut should have been in 4K. The original title was “Space Truckers”. I seen this on it’s opening night many years ago.
Yeah !!! 85 !!! I legendary year for births , Keira Knightley , Gal Gadot , Ronaldo, you, and of course the most awesome person on the planet ..... Me ! Lol ... but anyway as for the film I liked it not Hoopers best but not bad. Great Video 👍
I decided against this because I simply cannot accept the shorter theatrical cut. The director’s cut IS superior and the Arrow BluRay of it certainly looks sensational.
@@midlevelmedia Yes, it has the director's cut on a BD disc. My point is, since I have the BD version of it there is no need for me to buy the 4K, with only the theatrical cut being present on the 4k disc.
Ken John Dykstra, ohh Star Wars, & The Empire Strikes Back. (You can thank him for the X-Wing and the Lightsaber.) Star Trek The motion picture. Sam Rami's Spider-Man 1 & 2 and Battlestar Galactica. Btw you said Lutz instead of May 3 times in your video Shameful Matilda Lutz is hot but doesn't hold a candle to the enigmatic beauty that May is holding down. Still fine at 56.
I'm sorry to tell you that you are sharing misinformation that is printed on the box for publicity reasons. Check the pre-title credits and you will see that I designed all the special make-up, prosthetics and creature FX for Lifeforce and worked with Dan O'Bannon to re-write and insert 6 sequences into the movie. John Gant did the physical Special Effects and John Dykstra did optical and miniature FX and directed second unit on some shots.
Definitely won’t be picking up I have the steelbook and since the 4K is only theatrical cut have no reason to upgrade will never watch the theatrical cut it is terrible Scream Factory dropped the ball on this release!
More sci-fi than horror? I disagree. The only sci-fi part is that the vampires are from another planet and the space ship. Everything else feels very much in the horror genre to me. Like Alien is a horror/slasher. Only part of Alien that is sci-fi, again, is the creature/monster is from another planet, and the space ship.
Oh, dang. I forgot to mention that I think the director's cut of the movie, which is only available on Blu-ray, is a masterpiece. Have almost always loved this movie. I saw the theatrical cut first, I believe. When I watched the Scream Factory director's cut I think that was when I really fell in love with it. Supposedly the director's cut looks much better on the 2019 Arrow release, so I might get that. I won't be getting this 4K because they didn't do a 4K of the director's cut. Which is strange. SF claim they didn't want to do the 4K of the director's cut because there's only the interpositive. I know there have been 4Ks that have only the interpositive as a source, so SF could have scanned it for a new 4K, or have just used the one they already scanned a few years ago.
I think they should have kept the title "the Space vampires". I love it.
That's a more B Movie title for sure, but I think Lifeforce is cool too.
The US version was hacked to bits. The other cut is included as an extra.
I need to watch that cut at some point.

Such a shame the DC cut is only in Bluray as a bonus, it's far superior than the butchered US Cut.

What a horribly stupid, boring and unnecessary movie. That’s saying a lot from me since I love Tammy and the T-rex. This is for 14 year old boys.
