Diamond Head on UK TV BBC Midlands "Look Hear" program 1980 Line-up Sean Harris (vocals) Brian Tatler (guitar) Duncan Scott (drums) Colin Kimberley (bass)
I love the guitarist's tone. Nice, twangy, overdriven, right up my alley. Long live Diamond Head. Edit more than two fucking years later: BRIAN TATLER. HIS NAME IS BRIAN TATLER. AND THE BAND IS BACK AND ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw Diamond Head three times back in 82-83 this vid is nothing compared to watching them live.Sean Harris was one of the best front men ever and i've seen a few in fact the band were just amazing...the sad thing was that when the original drummer and bassist packed it in they were never really the same band again...but in saying that the Canterbury album was amazing and so ahead of it's time!!
@@claraboomday ahh fair enough, I've seen them twice but I'm only 27 so it was only Brian who original member but I met him when I was 18 luckily enough and he had all the time in the world to talk to us. Felt like I was talking to superman 😁

I only seen Diamond Head at their peak in a small local club where they came back & played at least 4 times and everyone loved them. Maiden, I've only ever seen at Donnington so it's not practical to compare them - but both great bands in their own way.
Because of treacherous family member management of the band and their affairs, when really - it should have been handled by a professional in the industry. and probably not touring the hell out of the US at the start of their career, thats how bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden had them licked!
this is not fair, they should be the biggest metal band in the world. people needa do more for them so they can get bigger. they are still touring and making albums and they kick as much as as ever!
+Omar Rodriguez Lars actually followed Diamond Head on tour in Britain(1980) before he even met Mustaine. Mustaine may have been a Diamond Head fan, but the first band he always mentions is Angel Witch as influence.
Great song from one of the absolute best albums of metal. I was 16 when I found Lightening to the Nations in 2015. How amazing does a, basically underground, album from 1980 have to be to still find a way through time like that
I love seeing the 70s and 80s clash here. The stage and fashion reek of the 70s but the style and energy of the 80s are ringing out even before they were there yet. Crowd on the left- 80s, crowd on the right- 70s
Watched these guys play 3 gigs in the early 80,s and their ability to get the whole place rockin from start to finish, was the equal of any band i've seen live - and i've seen em all !
i love and respect Diamond Head so much because without them there would be no Metallica. This is cuz Lars put an ad for a guitarist who wanted to do Diamond Head covers. So without Diamond Head that would have never happened, and hence no Metallica. I didn't know Diamond Head until I started listening to Metallica, and now they are one of my favorite bands!!!!
I was about 12 when the New Wave of British Heavy Metal was at its full apogee. Already learning guitar, I eagerly devoured any offering by Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Saxon, Def Leppard, Tigers of Pan Tang, Judas Priest et al. I though Britain was the Promised Land of rock and London paved with talented musicians. I finally made it to Blighty in the early 1990s, just in time for Britpop. Jesus fucking Christ with a pogo stick up his arse, the difference between the two movements was wider than the Grand Canyon and bigger than the Niagara Falls. One was packed with brilliant instrumentalists who churned original music performed with supernatural passion, the other one was over-full with talentless chancers, opportunists and musical conmen (and conwomen) who knew a good bandwagon useful for three-chords merchants to jump on. I made it just in time to witness the demise of Britain as a beacon for excellent music, and I rue the fact I was just too young to come over in 1980 when you could walk into a pub and catch the mighty Diamond Head proceeding to make the place shake. R.I.P. British Rock, and thanks for the priceless aural memories.....

My understanding is that when metallica first started "covering" diamond head songs, they only said it was a cover if someone asked (at their shows). I remember reading a quote from James more or less saying this. Kill Em All is basically one big Diamond Head ripoff...
yeah essentially metallica was a big ripoff before burton. burton really made them go big and then they just continued on with mindless riffs with no real substance. the only musician of any substance in metallica is kirk hammett but his brilliance seems to get lost in the hetfield machine.

The birth of thrash metal
A metal song without a guitar solo... This raw, almost punk-style energy, reminds Iron Maiden's first album. :-)
yah even Metallicas version has a Kirk Hammet solo for that end bit because replicating that kinda perfection would be impossible...
Maiden always had solos in their albums. Terrific solos.
@deadlift nothing like Iron Maiden what drugs are you on. Compared to maidens first album this is almost pop.
@minners71 This is nwbhm
Actually this is a shortened version, that they play live. The studio version is twice the length and has a solo.
I love this band. The vocalist had an amazing voice.
Sean Harris! When Dave Mustaine started Megadeth, he wanted Sean Harris to be the singer of his new band.
I love it too!
He's the weak link for me!
Each to their own 😄👍
Total poser...But, his voice reminds me of CHER. LOL.
He had a bit of a Robert Plant thing going on
Best NWOBHM band by a mile. How bloody Saxon and Def Leppard made it and these guys didn't is a fucking crime..
Probably because it's generic and lacks any original melody
