    Skye for me was a standout. I'm not sure what it is, maybe it's that high chest on all of the landings, particularly on beam, coupled with her being rather tall for a gymnast in general, but man is she ever lovely to watch.

    Joscelyn certainly has the difficulty but I’m sorry to be critical here, but her form needs major improvement. She shows bent knees on her layouts and lack of extension on practically all of her leaps and definitely not full splits. I fear the international judges will highly deduct her.

      I would take bent knees and poor extension over poor body positions or a floppy core ANY DAY in an up and coming gymnast. Those problems are much easier to fix, won’t hinder her growth, and won’t force her to relearn skills as she addresses them. So while yeah, that’s something for her to work on, I’m honestly not too worried about it.

    There’s something off in a system that allows a double pike vault to be significantly lower in score than some of the other routines of different apparatuses. Not to mention there’s questions as to whether FIG will lower it’s difficulty.

    • @mrparts
      @mrparts 9 місяців тому +16

      Because they’re not equivalent. Each event is unique and the FIG has to balance the scores so that one event is not out of proportion with the others. Keeping all things the same, vault scores tend to be higher because the execution errors are limited to a single vault, while on floor/beam/ bars a gymnast can make many more executions mistakes during all the tumbles, dance elements and releases.

    Some people in these comments are being very uneducated about Roberson and it shows.
    Yes, she needs to be doing different kinds of leaps. A lot of the ones she's currently doing do not suit her. But you have to match style to skills for every gymnast, this is not unique to her nor her fault.
    She is relatively new on the scene, and young. I believe WCC will adjust her routines.
    I'm old enough to remember how people treated Shawn Johnson for her muscles and I'm not about to let y'all do it to this girl, too.

      She’s improved a lot in a few months. I was ready to be super critical but watching her floor routine in this her artistry has improved a lot & she already has super difficult tumbles. I’d like to see better feet, not sickled, but that’s just my pet peeve. If she continues to improve at the same rate, she’s going to be unstoppable.

      I love how people think domestic scoring is her unique problem. Beam scoring has been a challenge to not just general audiences but gymnastics fans. Keeping beam rhythm with sufficient choreo between elements is highly encouraged in this beam code. People have to look at these pause, empty steps, rhythm on most routines before claiming that she's uniquely overscored.
      One thing for sure is that she should replace some split elements by double turn or non-split elements. But there are some aspects in the beam code that can balance out these deductions, if other gymnasts keep doing minimum in rhythm and choreo.

    Obviously I’m a huge Simone fan…though it grinds my gears when comments are made making light of twisties and mental health.
    In addition to everything she is already training for, having counseling for mental health is an entire workout in and of itself.
    The other thing is after watching all of these events and simply staring at the screen in awe of these amazing athletes, what’s disappointing to me is the repetitive nature of the elements in every routine. I love patterns and constantly in general but I expected more variety in routines.
    I’m a bowler, not a gymnast. Not hating or trivializing the difficulty. Just making an observation as the friendly neighborhood OCD lady with dogs and cats 😂😂

      I’m a coach and I agree. The way the code is structured right now, especially at elite, favors a specific type of athlete with very little originality. There’s a reason why china has fallen behind and why the highest scoring gymnasts tend to look the same. Artistry < power, turns and leap connections are valued abysmally low (aside from the wolf turn). Anything which requires flexibility is the same (sheep jumps, ring leaps, etc). That’s why you hardly ever see anything interesting on beam. It’s pretty disappointing.

      @@coach.pattiecouldn’t agree more. It’s so tiresome seeing the same leaps & tricks over & over again & even though we know why they’re doing it, it’s still annoying & has stripped a lot of the beauty from the sport. I’d rather go back to watching the old compulsory routines because although the skills weren’t as difficult, every competitor strove for technical perfection. Today we see the same moves by a lot of girls, often poorly performed.
