You will notice he asked several times, even though Ty answered already... It's easy to eff up a lie if you have to repeat it. They ask you about your task and reason to watch your body language and how quickly you answer. The answer can be, "I would rather not discuss that".... now that could set off alarm bells in a cops head, but if your tone of voice and body language is relaxed, he might let it slide.

@@txjeb yeah no shit. The point and issue here is exactly what you said though. Like what if he's coming from a strip club or something and just doesn't want to air his business out there. There's videos of it turning out exactly this way as well where someone is doing nothing wrong and they just don't want to talk to cops but the cops assume and end up screwing themselves over in the end. It's out of line to be asking that question and it's a total setup even if you're doing nothing wrong.

I’ve been a police officer for 25 years. This is how we want traffic stops to go. We explain the reason for the stop, the citizen explains their side, and both treat each other with respect and understanding. Are there unprofessional and power trip officers? Yes. Do the good ones like the image that those officers convey? No. You can even be a jerk to a certain point and I’ll understand because being stopped by an officer isn’t something anyone enjoys but all most of us ask is to not be an asshole.
Question for you: what do the "good ones" do to actively correct/retrain/reeducate/rehabilitate actively unprofessional, law-breaking, power-tripping officers? Do the offending officers forever change their ways or else forcibly removed from the profession? Or do they circulate through the system backed by your all-powerful unions? In a nutshell, what do the "good ones" actually *DO* about the "few bad apples", besides "disliking them" as you put it? Consequently, what happens to the "good ones" who make a big enough scene where they wish to fully see through the correction and change in problematic officers? Are they and their concerns brushed under the rug time and time again till they grow disillusioned and leave the career altogether, or are they retaliated against and forced out against their will? These are all rhetorical questions we all know the answer to, but feel free to chime in with any anecdotal evidence to the contrary!

I never understand the people who say, "don't tell the officers where you're coming from and where you're going because it's none of their business". The "I don't answer questions" people. I understand they technically don't have a right to know that. However, unless you're doing something unlawful there's no reason not to just say "I'm coming from work on my way home". Heck, only tell what you feel isn't private. I got pulled over for not moving over or slowing down enough when they had someone pulled over and there was no reason for me not to say "I'm coming from home, near X area, to go get food". We should NOT normalize police snooping into people's personal lives if it doesn't pertain to the reason you were stopped. What it boils down to is "If you don't have anything to hide then let me/us invade your privacy" - no thank you sir, I like my privacy. Also, nothing you tell an officer will be used in your favor, only *against* you so that they can get their conviction rate up. The cop is fishing for information to get you caught up, NEVER to help you out. Why do you think your Miranda Rights say "... Anything you say can and will be used *against* you"? My dad was law enforcement. He told me not to prep my license and registration until the officer is at your window asking for it. If you're rifling through the car when they can't see you well, they don't know what you're grabbing. As far as they know, you could be grabbing a weapon. Just keep your hands empty and visible - don't even roll down your window. You can see in this case, the cop went to the most advantageous position for if you had a weapon and was ready to unholster his weapon while knocking on the window. Combined with how he said he couldn't check your plate on his system and had trouble seeing into your car, this was the only safe option for him to take.
To be fair about the tinted windows issue, some jurisdictions don't bother pulling people over for small issues while others do. Perfectly handled situation, and no... there's no way your window tint is too dark. Looks like 35% from these old eyes, which is legal in most states that I know of. Well done in either case.
Although it doesn't seem as dark when looking from inside out, it's because there is more light coming into the car than going out (light = visibility). Also, the closer you get to the window, the easier it is to see through it. Even without tints, sometimes it's hard to see into passing cars at a distance or at an angle because the glass reflects and refracts light, and tints make it that much more difficult, even when they're fairly light. I don't think the cop lied when he said he couldn't see into the car, especially if he meant he couldn't see while driving by.

This is the way it needs to go down. Both treat each other with respect and comply to what the officer wants. Great video, I wish all stops were this easy.
Worked as how it should. Generally the few times I have been stopped, I do not tell cops where I am coming from or going. It is none of their business.
Tinted windows, obstructed license plate, speeding in a school zone, obstructed view (air fresheners). Plenty of reasons to pull him over. My only critic would actually be towards the driver. Cops said "keep your hands on the wheel" and then he didn't, kept waving them around, even putting his elbow on the armrest plenty of times. Gotta be able to talk without all the hand movements.
@Austin Batton You need to have a more open mind and be able to think critically: 1) Tinted windows - prevents texting and driving (can't see driver, people walking through a crosswalk don't know if the driver sees them). 2) Obstructed license plate: enables tracking of stolen cars, people skipping tolls, etc... 3) Obstructed view: I don't know why you even think this should be excusable. Plenty of people are killed because the driver "did not see" them. Motorcyclists, bikers, people walking in cross walks as the car turns, etc... A dude totaled my motorcycle making a turn out of his driveway for this reason. Simply "didn't see me." 100% his fault.

That's how you communicate with people, good on you bro, it's so refreshing to see. Hopefully these people don't try to waste your time with some bullshit. After they pull you over, they try to find anything to get you on, to justify themselves.
This is a perfect example of a RESPONSIBLE concealed carrier. Anytime you have interaction with law enforcement and you tell them its there, it will help your case no matter what the reason is they are speaking with you. If you just tell them, they usually don't make a hassle out of it unless it has become a common issue in their area. This is also a good example of how to properly interact with an officer. Most of the time if you respect them, they will make it as easy as they possibly can on you. Every now and then you get a sour one, but hats off to the officer and the driver. Both were very respectful with each other the entire time.
The world would be a much better place if all interactions with police went down this calm and collected from both sides. We've all got places to be and they've got jobs to do. I don't envy their job at all. Probably not fear,, but definitely on guard. I wouldn't be surprised if every cop has seen 2 dozen videos of a cop getting shot or shot at who didn't follow that SOP of staying behind the driver, etc. You can see this officer, just like every time I've ever been pulled over, has his right hand prepped and ready to draw his firearm immediately. He's just following what they call officer survival training/ threat approuch zones. He took what you call a cross/ limited no approuch. When he hung out in the window looking at the information is a small sign the officer was comfertable with the driver, goes un noticed usually. It sucks because as an officer you wanna be appear friendly and approachable, but starting out that way will eventually lead to the officer catching a bullet if he becomes complacent.
Most cops ask about what you're doing or where you're going is to see if you're nervous, on edge, or seeing if something doesn't add up. They don't write down this into and add it to their collection or pass it on. Just comply, answer and go in with your life.
If you're driving yes, I've been "stopped" by cops walking home and I tell them I'm going home you can follow but I'm not stopping to have a chat with you, I've done nothing wrong and I'm just going home. Never been followed, and never been chased down.
Actually don't answer questions like that, just respectfully say you don't feel comfortable answering questions that you aren't required to. The reason for this is if they ask you where you are coming from you can accidentally make yourself a suspect to another crime. Lawyers advise you not to communicate with police at all, they're not your friend. They will protect you and you should respect them, but you shouldn't risk your safety and well being by getting too comfortable around them.
It can never get better by giving police information, but things can get worse. Be respectful, don't make them afraid or act erratic. Politely decline any questions you don't have to answer. In some places, your name would be required when asked.

Don't get me wrong, man. Officers should be given respect but they also need to return it too. There are plenty of officers that are absolute cocks because they think they can get away with it regardless of the person's behavior. There are good cops and there are bad cops; there is no line in between. Because once you hit the grey area of the law, that is where corruption begins to fester. I genuinely hope that we can finally get the bad ones out and keep praising the good ones because they deserve that recognition and respect for their good behavior. Sure it's REQUIRED they uphold the law and be civil but not every office does that and thus we SHOULD praise the good ones and encourage that behavior. The reason why cops protect cops is because due to their position they are often isolated in social society; like the tattle tale you know you can't take with you to a wild party. So they end up with this clique. It shouldn't be that way. We need to, as a society, appreciate and welcome the good cops into our lives so they can feel more part of the community and thus protect all of us as a whole. Make sure the law is carried out equally based on a moral compass. For example, someone steals a few eggs from a store just to feed their family? You don't punish those people, you give them a small slap on the wrist and then somehow help; some cops have bought groceries for some but there are plenty of cops who could help point them in the right direction to get assistance in their lives so people don't steal for food. The bad ones? They need to be either fired or thrown in jail based on what the situation is. Someone is carrying a small amount of Marijuana and somehow ends up getting slammed around or worst shot???? No. I get cops are always stressed because they seriously go through some life and death situations. No one can deny that fact. That PTSD can be a real bitch and cause some terrible losses both in accidental slaughter and suicide. But some cops just have an itchy trigger finger. The whole system is a mess. There needs to be more. Cops should have constant access to mental care and at least have an exam every few months that the state pays for to ensure our officers are mentally okay for not just themselves but also society. There needs to be more events where the public and the police can mingle with in a social manner. Like a cook out or a day at the lake. Just something to get civilians and officers interacting more OUTSIDE of a stressful situation.

I like how the cop clearly kept both of his hands on this mans documentation the whole time and didn’t make any sudden movements of his own great job being understanding and not thinking irrational, to the both of you for sure
Good job staying respectful while also standing up for yourself. That said, every state has their own limitations for tint darkness, and it changes all the time. Definitely check the details of your state. Some states like PA, it's illegal on front windows entirely.
there's absolutely nothing to be afraid of when getting pulled over if you are a law abiding citizen, like yourself. instantly told him you were carrying, kept your hands on the wheel, made him feel safe, you felt safe, etc. Friendly conversation. and if the cop is doing something wrong, you will have your chance in court. well done man. wish more people were civilized like yourself.
Make him feel safe? That’s not anyone’s responsibility to make officers feel safe. If an officer wants to feel safe, maybe being an officer was a poor career choice.
@@veedee4860 Sure, but if you want the interaction to go as smooth as possible, that's what you should probably do. And the dude did that by saying right away that he is carrying.

Actually amazing content! You're really benevolent genuine person. I truly believe it's guys like you who are changing our society's well being for the better.
It bothers me deeply reading some of these comments. But respect to the cop for behaving with the mentality of de-escalating that type of stop in today’s America.
It's important that you do not answer questions you aren't legally required to answer. You could unknowingly incriminate yourself. You are usually legally required to identify yourself correctly, and depending on the state inform the officer you are carrying a firearm. But questions relating to "Where are you going," "where are you coming from," "what do you do," "do you know why I pulled you over?" You don't have to answer these questions and really you shouldn't. Instead, you should be asking, after identifying yourself and the officer explains the reason for the stop, "Am I being detained," and "Am I free to go?"
I saw nothing wrong. Guess I am missing what you see in the comments. MY opinion doesnt have to match those of others to make me feel important I guess.
@@d.a.s.3921 It's more a criticism of the driver than the officer. You as the driver are protected by the Fifth Amendment, the right of protection from self-incrimination. You are typically legally required to provide identification and proof of insurance. These make sense because you should have a DL and insurance if you're going to be operating a motor vehicle on public roads. Laws vary on whether you have a "duty to inform" a peace officer if you are armed. In my state, you are not required to inform an officer if you are armed, but if they ask you if you are carrying weapons then you must inform them. Generally, it's a good idea to do so regardless but people with CCWs have done it and gotten killed (Philado Castile, for example). However, the driver should not have answered any further questions. You do not have to answer any further questions as they can be used against you. If an officer asks you where are you coming from and you reply that you came from a gas station that was recently robbed, that could give them probable cause to detain you. Or if you say that you just went to your friend's house and are going straight home but the officer has you on video leaving the gas station after filling up, congratulations: now you can be charged with lying to a peace officer during an investigation even if your intention was not to lie and in your mind that little omission had no substance. During a detainment, don't ever talk to police. And never answer questions without legal counsel, even if you are 100% innocent. You may just end up incriminating yourself.
It's amazing what treating officers with a little bit of kindness will get you . It doesn't give them a reason to escalate and even if they do , don't fight your case on the side of the road .
Everyone needs to see this. You did everything right. The first priority of every driver should be to ease the officer's mind that they are not in danger. Hands on the wheel, told him immediately there was a weapon in the car and used professional language and didn't say any more than needed. Perfection.
I’ve been pulled over a lot, normally for stupid reasons or for the fact that I am constantly having to replace lights on my car, but as anxiety inducing as it can feel and as much as you wanna panic, just talk to the officer calmly, answer their questions and make an attempt to familiarize yourself with them. Every stop I’ve had became pleasant after I took the time to talk to the officer and wasn’t providing issue. Yeah it can be a pain and I don’t think you should say something you think could get you in trouble. They mostly just wanna get the stop over with and go about their day, they aren’t there to get you, it’s just their job and they are just as stressed as you are. So breathe, relax, and be calm. Everything will be fine. Hope this is helpful to those of you who also get very antsy about police or being stopped.
Even if he had his hand on the gun cops do that so they have enough time to react do u want the cop to die that probably has a family he wants to go home to but yea i didnt see his hand on his gun

Brother, I want to say thank you for being a good example. I wish this would be used to teach everyone on how to interact, especially our children of color who may be scared of law enforcement because of past incidents. I think this is a wonderful video on how to record, interact, and respect on both sides. He heard you had a gun and he didn't change his demeanor nor get overly aggressive. And when he said your think was dark you didn't do curb side justice. I know you would of took it to court and most likely took a picture and if you were correct, it would of been dismissed. Instead of getting in a screaming match and escalating the situation. I'm glad everyone made it home safe and thank you for being you.
When two human beings interact with each other respectfully this is what it will look like. 99% of the time. Good on you for stating enough information to put him at ease. You obviously know you didn't have to answer the, where are you coming from etc etc. Just an all around good interaction of 2 human beings just trying to get home from work.
If he cited you for the tint, I would’ve taken that to court. Otherwise, you as well as the officer did a fantastic job. Respectful, civil, and treating each other like human beings, great work.
he would probably cite him for the license plate instead and to be honest an obstructed license plate is totally a legitimate reason for a cop to pull someone over. Window tints not so much.
Big kudos to you for demonstrating this!! I fear a lot of people, especially new license obtainers, completely disregard the obligation to provide and disclose to police officers that they’re a licensed firearm carrier during traffic stops. However, I gotta admit, he was asking too many questions that you weren’t and arent obligated to answer. He pulled you over for specific “traffic violations” not the small talk. Me personally, I woulda said respectfully, what does any of that have to do with the traffic stop? But I understand for your safety, you want to be cooperative and transparent with the police officer. You did a wonderful job!

Just keep your hands empty and visible - don't even roll down your window.

Perfectly handled situation, and no... there's no way your window tint is too dark. Looks like 35% from these old eyes, which is legal in most states that I know of. Well done in either case.
Yeah I know it’s around 35% because I don’t like dark tint on my car’s Thanks for the comment too I appreciate it
I ride with 5% all around
Although it doesn't seem as dark when looking from inside out, it's because there is more light coming into the car than going out (light = visibility). Also, the closer you get to the window, the easier it is to see through it. Even without tints, sometimes it's hard to see into passing cars at a distance or at an angle because the glass reflects and refracts light, and tints make it that much more difficult, even when they're fairly light. I don't think the cop lied when he said he couldn't see into the car, especially if he meant he couldn't see while driving by.
35 would be illegal in PA I think most north east states have about the same except maybe MD you can paint the windows black there and no one cares

Yeah, at the end of the day, trying to fight with the officer isn't gonna help anyone, you'll just make that officer mad or pissed, which obvious they shouldn't be but the once again, you can't do anything. However, what you can do is whatever they ticketed you for, you CAN contest in court if you think it's unlawful. Or whatever unfair/unjust treatment or action you believe you received can be sealed at a later time
This is the way it needs to go down. Both treat each other with respect and comply to what the officer wants. Great video, I wish all stops were this easy.
I think you showed how a traffic stop should go, very respectful for someone who is trying to keep our society safe and law abiding👍🏼
That's how a conversation between a civilian and a cop should go. I'm sensing mutual respect from both parties.
Worked as how it should. Generally the few times I have been stopped, I do not tell cops where I am coming from or going. It is none of their business.
Professionalism on both sides (even though I don't agree with he Cop's reason to pull you over), refreshing to see this on YT. Thanks brother.
@Austin Batton You need to have a more open mind and be able to think critically:
1) Tinted windows - prevents texting and driving (can't see driver, people walking through a crosswalk don't know if the driver sees them).
Sad part is cops have to meet a monthly quota witch needs to be done away with

The guy kept his sunglasses on is part of it, like he's above the situation
Then why be a cop if you’re scared lol

@@clayclay2158 That's stupid... Almost every person that gets shot by the police got shot because they acted like idiots. Almost all injuries related to the police are injuries sustained while resisting arrest.
You have NO excuse for resisting arrest, no matter what the situation is. Even if you're innocent you are still OBLIGATED to follow their orders, you can dispute false arrests in court.
When dealing with police all you need to do is stfu, do what you're ORDERED to do, and refuse things you're not ordered to do. If they grab you, let them, if they ask to search your car say you don't give them your consent but don't physically get in their way if they search regardless.
All it takes is not being a moron

@@CertifiedGShep Yes, talking to Police and giving unnecessary information will NEVER help you.
The COP? You mean the guy acting civilized that’s why there was no escalation he acted like a normal person not an irate punk calling the cop racist
Perfection.
this is exactly how you should act when you get pulled over, I appreciate that both cop and driver cooperated well
I’ve been pulled over a lot, normally for stupid reasons or for the fact that I am constantly having to replace lights on my car, but as anxiety inducing as it can feel and as much as you wanna panic, just talk to the officer calmly, answer their questions and make an attempt to familiarize yourself with them.
Two great guys working together and showing mutual respect.
Great response and staying calm even as the officer walked up and had his hand on his gun the whole time.
Watch the video. The cop hardly touches his gun. And seeing as there seems to be quite a few traffic misdemeanors the guy should definitely stay calm.

Trust me me too it was supposed to be longer but the GoPro had cut off because After the officer went back to his car he came back with a tint reader. So I was kind of mad when I got home and only seen half of the footage
