@@ryand141 I am an American, and was unfamiliar with Dominic Cummings until recently. Technically, regarding systems and organizational matters in UK government during the COVID19 response, Cummings seemed highly competent to me. I don't have a well-informed view; regardless, Cummings' word choice in his assessments of Whitehall dysfunctionality should NOT be a concern. This fuss is about surface over substance. I am distressed at the emphasis on superficiality rather than Cummings' expressed concerns over the performance of government functionaries during a perceived crisis.
The most interesting thing about this whole affair is how the Spectator, the Telegraph and the Evening Standard are effectively mouthpieces for different Tory factions, it's Pravda vs Izvestia. The media in the UK is not fit for purpose.

Punishment of those tasked with decision making during the pandemic period for their error in that decision making - though you may find it gratifying - is not the goal of the inquiry. It's about considering and then creating a more concrete plan for similar situations that may occur in the future because it's evident we lacked a good one for covid.
Mr Cummings has a rich turn of phrase. He is however honest about the uselessness of our politicians. I'm inclined to think his expressive language reflects genuine frustration when dealing with lying , useless, self serving politicians.
Cummings has been a real gem in exposing the inner workings of government at the top. Everyone can see how incompetent they are, decisions full of personal biases and prejudices.
In Germany we lost 16 years to corrupt government. 250 billion per year via corruption and Lobbyism. At this point it is clearly much cheaper to just give 30 percent of our gdp directly to the people, as basic income grant.
I am totally disgusted by these so called leaders. I was a civil servant for 17yrs and if I'd have sent a message with that crude, unprofessional language to a colleague I'd have been out on my ear, quite rightly.
I’m sure I am not alone in recalling that the UK had, not so long ago, been recognised as a “world leader” in the understanding of epidemics - how to prevent them, how to prepare for them and how to mitigate their effects - nor in recalling an interview with a chief medical officer (or equivalent) in Singapore, who, when asked why his country’s response to Covid had been so successful, responded along the lines of “that’s the wrong question; you should be asking why the UK has done so badly - we’ve used the guidelines that their experts created”!
There were meant to be drills and practice runs for an epidemic starting way back in 2016 but the Tories decided we didn't need them and would just 'take it on the chin'.
@@robertandrews6555 Stop lying to yourself. The blame lies squarely at with the Tories who didn't keep emergency supplies stocked and up to date and ignored our own guidelines.

@user-qq2vq4fv8b you know the elites are working on that, right? (have been for well over a century - stepped it up in 2020) it's called the great reset (agenda21 - agenda for the 21s century) and it involves them psy-op-crisis-eroding all remaining national sovereignties, dissolving all remaining "democracies", force-relocating (or depopulating) cultures (to hasten the erosion of national identities/histories), digitising the fiat money system so you'll need a digital ID to participate (a 2,000 year-old book had a whole chapter all about a coming time when 'none may buy or sell, save that he had the mark'), centralising all power into their elite-funded and administered unelected, unaccountable, unassailabe, global organisations (UN, WHO etc.) - pushing for an Internet of Bodies (brain-computer interfaces [Hi, Elon] nano-tech 'vaccines' etc.) for - finally! - COMPLETE control over the (vastly reduced in number) plebs. Convid was just the opening act. - and by the way, 'democracy' never was. "Everything is a rich-man's trick". Democracy was an illusion - believed in only by the poor. The elites are done with it now, and the mask is coming off. Neo-feudal techno-fascism ahoy! (here it comes..) But hey, they MIGHT not succeed.. we have to NOT comply.
People in government should not be allowed to privately message people. Everything they do should be available to the public for scrutiny. If we cant hold the government accountable then its not a democracy.
I can understand the sentiment. But competent trustworthy politicians and civil servants should be able to have simple conversations with each other. There are many reasons why it's not a benefit to have every single conversation available to the public. It would really damage politicians to ability to have frank and complex discussions. Everyone would be extreme self filtering and engaging in cryptic doublespeak to avoid getting themselves cancelled.

We can't allow this to be swept under the carpet. There must be a criminal investigation into this whole affair. There seems to be multiple counts of criminal negligence, Misconduct in Public Office and I'm sure plenty more that I'm not aware of.

Misconduct in public office (“MiPO”) is a common law offence that can be tried only on indictment. It carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. The offence concerns serious wilful abuse or neglect of the power or responsibilities of the public office held. There must be a direct link between the misconduct and an abuse of those powers or responsibilities. The Court of Appeal has made it clear that the offence should be strictly confined, and it can raise complex and sometimes sensitive issues. This guidance sets out the key legal elements of the offence and the factors that prosecutors should consider when applying the Code for Crown Prosecutors in cases where MiPO is alleged. Case Handling Prosecutors should refer to the Referral of Cases guidance for the appropriate handling of MiPO allegations. Evidential Considerations The elements of the offence were summarised in Attorney General's Reference No 3 of 2003 [2004] EWCA Crim 868. The offence is committed when: a public officer acting as such wilfully neglects to perform their duty and/or wilfully misconducts themselves to such a degree as to amount to an abuse of the public's trust in the office holder without reasonable excuse or justification

It was pretty obvious that Johnson and co. were so obsessed with getting into power that they hadn't considered how they were actually going to run anything once they were in. Johnson pretty much based his cabinet based on how much of a Johnson supporter they were, which is how we ended up with a bunch of seriously inexperienced and not very competent ministers in the UK government at the same time that a pandemic hit the UK.

Let’s not forget Johnson went on morning tv and said, “let the virus run through the country”, or similar, advocating herd immunity and thus the murder of those in their 80’s - my parents ages - and older. AND did the tories not defund or cancel the pandemic preparedness exercises a couple of years before Covid hit?
Case Handling
Prosecutors should refer to the Referral of Cases guidance for the appropriate handling of MiPO allegations.
Evidential Considerations
The elements of the offence were summarised in Attorney General's Reference No 3 of 2003 [2004] EWCA Crim 868. The offence is committed when:
a public officer acting as such
wilfully neglects to perform their duty and/or wilfully misconducts themselves
to such a degree as to amount to an abuse of the public's trust in the office holder
without reasonable excuse or justification

I am fed up with the "namby-pamby" "clutching of pearls" by weak-minded "audiences" who would blush at 'David' minus his figleaf !! 🖖
The more I see, the more I like Dominic - he's a proper public servant with integrity
This man is genuinely fascinating.
Brilliant. This rebuilds faith in uk justice. These scoundrels need prison time.Get them out.
I'd love to have your faith mate but nothing will happen. Not a single one of them will do time or face any sort of consequence for their actions.
Faith? 😂 there will be no justice. This is to generate headlines and make this fuckin rat feel better about himself. They have no morals or loyalty. Even to each other.
He appears to have had a lot of power for someone that was unelected.
Like the unelected civil servants who kept undermining cabinet decisions
The inquiry is showing that the Civil Servants were the only people with any level of competence, doing everything they could to get that utter embarrassment of a cabinet to do their job properly.
No more so than the unelected PM right now. Given the bloody state of no.10 it needs far far more unelected soles. You couldn't make it up, what a total bloody disgrace.
like that's unusual....🤔
It's a good job, he has a higher IQ than all the cabinet at the time combined.
None of them should receive pensions as granted at the moment to ministers and other officials.
I've never voted Tory, but for sure I'll be bearing this in mind next time I step into a voting booth. People were dying in droves that awful summer, and these were the folk in charge? Dear God.
Do not vote Labour either. They ate no better.
Conservative and Labour are both incompetent.
Just like our troops 'died in droves' under the last Liebour government when they were sent to an illegal war in thin-skinned vehicles and without flak jackets then!
Because Labour would have magically stopped anyone dying from an unknown pandemic disease wouldn’t they. Dream on.
They didn’t party while being hypocrites tho
Watching this has given me a slightly different opinion on Cummings. Yes he comes across as a slime ball and he has the communication skills of a 5 year old but I genuinely believe he is just a very outspoken man with no filter who was utterly sick of the way the country was being ran by these incompetent morons
All credit to the chap questioning Cummings, he’s right on the ball. What an exhausting job!
An absolutely nightmare situation - peopled by by an absolutely nightmare cast of backstabbers. Is that the best we can do - putting presumed entitlement before competence?
Seems to be what the British public prefer.
We could make those entitled elements jobless by giving enough money to build an existence to everybody by Negative Income Tax.
He's clearly evil but you can't deny that he's great at swearing
Or just accurate, and fruitly so?
He’s a shit Malcolm Tucker. And whilst amusing, also immensely dangerous.
Then you'll enjoy "the thick of it"
@@briancohenthepfjmassive.4769from bean to cup…
No more than Johnson or Patel or Braverman
The gasp at @1:51 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Amazing how everyone in the room is keeping a straight face.
Brits 😂
So it’s swearing a crime? Then 80% of the country may face charges. What a joke.
So true,i bet you and me have had managers that were fuckpigs, cock wombles, and we call them cunts
Yes it is a crime, it reveals poor conduct and in his position I expect better. They lay down rules and laws yet don't apply it themselves.
They clearly knew that there was never a viral threat, with their concerns all around what was “politically viable” as opposed to any fear of an actual virus.
My word, this is an evisceration of Johnson's handling of the covid response.
I Only hope he puts Big Fat Boris where he should be in the shit big time not on gbnews news.Im loving this,I already Knew most of what he's saying,I read the books
And this is minus all the other unholy messages that so mysteriously and abundantly got "lost"
Hearing all that bad language being read out in a serious tone and posh accent is pretty funny.
He's an unpleasant individual and his claim that "I'm not a very bright guy" is risible. BUT he's highly intelligent and his recollection of things is impressive.
Only saying what they want to hear to save his own skin
Gone yourself Dom. Been waiting for this. Quite unlike A Campbell. You’ve described them as most people did. Can’t wait for the book.
Why is this not on the national news?!?!
It was live on BBC 5 Live (not sure about TV). Some nice swearing at 4pm on the radio today
The guy says it as it is. An often exposed position to take. If our government had 1 ounce of the integrity and concern this guy clearly shows many lives could have been saved. The Government, Cabinet and the ruling party have ghastly approached this issue with the same care and interest as many of the british (sic) generals (sic) did World War 1.
All the inquiries in the world yet they ALL WALK Scott free
This brings to the fore something I’ve been saying for years “being a politician is a very important job for which you need neither qualification or experience!”
David Cameron referred to Cummings as a psychopath.
All on display here-inability to accept responsibility, no sense of empathy or sympathy with others, can't understand guilt, it's always someone else's fault.
A truly loathsome specimen of humanity
who would you rather lead an army into battle or a government into a crisis - a weak leader who changes his mind to what the last person asked him to do....or someone who can cut through to the heart of the matter and call out those and the processes that are standing in the way. the trouble is that there's no personification of the embodiment of a dysfunctional govt. department etc. so sadly it has to, instead, pivot onto specific human beings. in polite circles this is called turning an argument into an 'ad hominem' distraction and fallacy
Not an appealing person but clearly more brains and a will to get the job done by the right person than politicians.
There is no remorse. This is not surprising but it’s still shocking! Absolutely criminal the way they behaved
To have suggested allowing the elderly to perish is gruesome enough but to endanger every single citizens survival too is criminal!
Just goes to show how uncannily accurate The Thick of It was.
in most cases i would say that cummings abused his position but it is clear that without his interventions that things could have been considerably worse...
He put Boris in that position in the first place!
That’s not the point. The point is someone else should have been doing his job in a much better way…..!!!
10:52 - That's the most accurate description of cabinet ministers I've ever heard.
as someone who works in government for years, and is fairly socialist, (i.e not supportive of Dominic cumming's politics), he is completely correct in his views of how government is run. people are never held responsibly for failings, incompetence is not punished and competence is not only not rewarded, looking to make a positive impact and asking questions is genuinely punished.
You've only got to look at how blair and browns 13 years of domestic and international terrorism that cost millions of lives to see how political maniacs literally get away with murder.
Dominic Cummings epitomises the contempt the country has for its politicians. How on earth did he ever get to work in Number 10!! A singularly vile individual.
A vile individual working for a vile individual and surrounded by vile individuals, commonly known as Tory’s.
He was a mate of Michael Gove, another arrogant liar!!
He admitted he should never have got the job. Pity he just didn’t turn it down when he was offered it!
A viler pm hired him
If I pretend its an episode of The Thick of It, I might not be so upset at the reality of our government
Our government is being run by a bunch of incompetent idiots.
Yeah we're beyond satire now. Omnishambles
These inquiries always remind me of The Thick of It and how accurate that show was at times.
Responsibility and accountability needed...criminal charges should be brought
Cummings seems to have got it just about right; which is why the ‘slime’ wanted rid of him. Ditto those excrescences within the media.
