I agree with a lot of what Cummings says. He is largely right in saying there’s too many people involved and not strong enough decision making. Calling people to be sacked if they weren’t up to the job, is pretty normal practice in any work force.

Actually without necessarily agreeing with him, you can see why Cummings can be so effective. Bright and not restrained by many of the usual expectations.

Punishment of those tasked with decision making during the pandemic period for their error in that decision making - though you may find it gratifying - is not the goal of the inquiry. It's about considering and then creating a more concrete plan for similar situations that may occur in the future because it's evident we lacked a good one for covid.

We can't allow this to be swept under the carpet. There must be a criminal investigation into this whole affair. There seems to be multiple counts of criminal negligence, Misconduct in Public Office and I'm sure plenty more that I'm not aware of.

These inquiries always remind me of The Thick of It and how accurate that show was at times.

I’m sure I am not alone in recalling that the UK had, not so long ago, been recognised as a “world leader” in the understanding of epidemics - how to prevent them, how to prepare for them and how to mitigate their effects - nor in recalling an interview with a chief medical officer (or equivalent) in Singapore, who, when asked why his country’s response to Covid had been so successful, responded along the lines of “that’s the wrong question; you should be asking why the UK has done so badly - we’ve used the guidelines that their experts created”!

The Government, Cabinet and the ruling party have ghastly approached this issue with the same care and interest as many of the british (sic) generals (sic) did World War 1.
Johnson appointed his cabinet ministers on the basis of how hard they had campaigned for Brexit, and that is who we had managing the pandemic.
People in government should not be allowed to privately message people. Everything they do should be available to the public for scrutiny. If we cant hold the government accountable then its not a democracy.

While I agree with the principle of what you say, the reality is that it's simply not possible to stop people from privately messaging one another.
I can understand the sentiment. But competent trustworthy politicians and civil servants should be able to have simple conversations with each other. There are many reasons why it's not a benefit to have every single conversation available to the public. It would really damage politicians to ability to have frank and complex discussions. Everyone would be extreme self filtering and engaging in cryptic doublespeak to avoid getting themselves cancelled.
They spy on us, my employer spies on me and gives me no privacy apart from in the toilet and yet, the people who serve us treat us expect their conduct to 100% be behind closed doors and we wonder why? They think we're all morons who should be thankful for their competent rule over us. It's beyond disgusting, these lot 0 accountability whatsoever. I don't know why so many people are offended by swear words !!! What offends _me_ are actions which result in harm being caused to the general populace, who are only doing their best to live their lives and protect and care for their loved-ones.
Words uttered to describe the correct actions suited to any given situation are one thing, but 'cursing' is just another way to express oneself given the heinous behaviours such as those acted out by a 'leader', when they just cannot do the job required of them.
