- James Franklin and his Penn State football team are ranked 4th in the country as they head west to take on Big Ten newcomer USC. Lincoln Riley and his Trojans are struggling with the Big Ten football way of life after a couple of losses to Michigan and Minnesota.
Meanwhile, Penn State found some magic in its defense and it is starting to look elite, especially in the second half of games when it is time to step on the opponent's throat. We will preview the ins and outs of this game.

Im an SC and ill apologize for those that make excuses and leave the hateful post. Thats not me. I have been watching you since the start of the season and appreciate your position on most topics. I don’t think the officiating in the Big 10 has it out for or is going out of there way to screw any of the four new teams. But having watched every game this year, i must say, the officials in both the Michigan and Minnesota games left a lot to be desired. The one call last week leaves me baffled regarding the goal line stop that would have given SC the ball with little time on the clock. The score was tied. I have no idea what SC would have done with that possession, but theres a fair chance the game would have ended in a tie and then it goes into OT where anything could have happened. The explanation from the leagues officials leaves me uncertain with why there are rules set up if you’re not going to follow them. Now in my opinion, Minnesota scored on the play, but thats not what the call was. Anyway, you put out good information and I enjoy your posts. Thanks and keep up the good work.

An interesting game for sure.
PSU is by all metrics, the superior team. They were also that for the '17 Rose Bowl. Conversely, no one picked Michigan to beat SC this year.
My mind tells me this is a PSU blowout. My heart senses something special brewing in the Coliseum for SC.

A little history lesson for all USC fans. In 1991, a game I attended, USC had lost to a bad Memphis team that finished 5-6 the week before facing a 5th ranked Penn State coming into the coliseum, that were heavy favorites. USC ended up winning 21-10 shocking Joe Pa. And that USC team was horrible, finishing 3-8, so maybe there’s hope, because this USC team is no where as bad as that Larry Smith team. Fight On!✌🏻
My fear is that Penn State starts out slow like they usually do and that's fine against a bad team. I think both these teams are a question mark. This may be Penn States toughest game. USC is still a good team and PSU needs to travel 6 hours for this game. Penn State needs to show more explosiveness. I still give Penn State the win. WE ARE

"The [USC OL] has been a little suspect..." is an understatement. They have been unable to pass protect more than 1.5 seconds, therefore Moss and the WRs are unable to run any mid-deep routes. The OTs are especially raw. Once Michigan exposed this weakness, every team is now attacking them in this area. Riley put himself in this position by not signing an experienced, pass protecting OT, in the portal. Very unfortunate.

I’m an alumnus of SC and have endured the never ending circling of the drain we have been going through for 2 decades. SC is not the same team that they were under coach Pete. But there’s a hope in LA that they will be. This team is loaded. We always are but we fail to deliver. That’s why SC fans are so delusional. Everything should point to the Trojans being a top tier team but we just aren’t. Were like the A&M of the west. Preseason ranked high. Win some good games and fail to deliver on some key games. Right now we have some major issues on the offensive line and if we don’t get that right this week PSU will dismantle that o-line. Wounded animal won’t mean anything if you just cannot match the talent on the other side of the ball. And let’s be real. SC has no home field advantage. The coliseum is iconic but LA fans are as fair weather as they come. It’s just what it is. Your analysis is spot on but I hope you can at least understand why SC fans are the way they are. It’s nothing personal. We’re just delusional because we should be better than what we are and we’re just taking out our frustrations on anyone pointing out the obvious truth.
Also when it comes to penalties. Were used to PAC12 refs who mess everything up. It’s not corrupt officiating just gross incompetence. It’s been frustrating season after season. Then the PAC12 short changing the top teams and spreading the wealth to those who didn’t perform was also frustrating. I love that we were welcomed into the B1G. I love the way the B1G plays football and I hope we can change the way we play. The Michigan game was clearly a terribly officiated game. Not corrupt but they were letting them play and Michigan exploited it and SC decided to go to church camp and play by their own self regulating rules. Then the call that was overturned in the Minnesota game has SC fans in a tizzy. There’s no way that there could be video evidence to overturn the call on the field and that’s why SC is so mad but the call on the field was wrong so it was a makeup call. Again no corruption just gross incompetence. It goes both ways but it’s hard to be objective when so many calls are just wrong.

2 degrees from USC including my PhD; season tix since 1992. We are going to get the living hell beat out of us this Saturday. Everyone knows our horrific weak points and they HAPPEN to be PSU strong points. Blowout loss that will purge the sting of the Sam Darnold 2017 Rose Bowl loss.
USC has the talent to challenge PSU. Will be a fun game to watch. PSU should win this easily but USC is not an easy out.
Trojans aren't what they used to be, Penn State I believe will possibly mop the floor with them and shut down their possibility of playoffs

@@articdialationcold3913 They are elite in the trenches this year and can win in multiple ways. Slow starts but shutdown D in the second half. O line is overperforming - something that has never happened...Andy K. is getting the playmakers in space and has unpredictable and great schemes based on matchups. Concerns are the travel PST and slow starts. If PSU gets up early the D line will feast. If they don't it will be a close game. USC is good, but really beat up and depth on the D line is a huge concern.

Craig the officiating is very suspect in favor of home teams. You watch the HOLDING!!!!!!! and its like the refs ignore it. And the calls are just as suspect. The call at the 1 yard line at the end of the Minnesota game on 4th down and the refs called it no TD. The replace reversed it. But when Lincoln Riley asked about that decision, he was told by the Big Ten officiating head they saw no proof of the ball going over the end zone, but they reversed the call anyway????? What was that? It was rigged!
USC isca is a good team , not a powerhouse but steady . This is a coaching problem, the OL and offensive play calling need to improve. please try not to throw more than 25 passes , run for 300 yards see what happens

In the class of 2021, 2022, and 2023, USC has only 4 four star OL and DL players. Penn State has 11 four star and 1 five star. USC does not have the raw talent in the trenches.
I don’t like USC because I’m a Duck fan but I’ve wanted them to be consistent solid. The PAC 12 suffered because of it. They as of late have recruited better. I’ve been concerned but I think the biggest problem is management. Anytime you live in a city like LA you’ve got a massive advantage. Recruiting should be a cake walk but it’s not for some reason. You’re a blue blood in the second largest tv market with really nice weather and beautiful women. That should a massive advantage when recruiting young men. This is obvious that there has been a management issue. One thing I’ll say if the best coach in the country was available and he overweight, bald, with bad teeth you wouldn’t hire him because he doesn’t have the image you require. Bad management.
A long time SC fan all I can say is SC offensive line isreally bad and they should have dived in to the transfer portal looking for linemen both side the ball. Miller Moss needs a really good O Line to protect him with out that it’s going to be a long season kinda like last year . I see Penn ST WINNING. Riley had one good season and it been downhill since then

Are SC fans really more sensitive than any other fans? I don’t think I’d say more or less than anyone else. Definitely not as sensitive as Minnesota’s head coach.

Simple explanation. There is only one team that has 2 losses that is still ranked at this point....Michigan. They beat USC. That's why they are unranked. Are they better than a number of teams that are ranked....yep. But at mid season, wins and losses decide the ranking.
