- James Franklin and Penn State football have one of the best programs in the Big Ten and college football. But the knock on them is they cannot win the big game because Ohio State and Michigan football have historically been in their way.
While there is no game with Michigan on the Penn State football schedule this year, the Ohio State game is fast approaching. But do Franklin and his Nittany Lions get credit for a 'big win" last Saturday at USC? It is a fair question because while it felt like a big game, the Trojans are not ranked in the AP top 25 poll. Remember Franklin’s Penn State teams have beaten Michigan several times and beat Ohio State once. No other team can say that.
It is a huge win for Penn State against USC. It showed a confident QB making a comeback. This is a big deal for the team psychology and you make these points. This year the team will really believe they can comeback with a better QB than Ohio State has.
Penn State fan here. I was skeptical on our ability to win at USC because of the history you outlined. So, yes, I think it's a big win and it feels like we got a small part of the elephant off our back. Of course, getting past Ohio State is more important, but yes, the USC win was big, especially because we looked at 2024 as a 2-game season and this was one of them.
Wisconsin looked great this week. Need to concentrate on them and not overlook them prior to the OSU game. Never easy going into Camp Randall.
USC is much better than their record & I feel this was a big win for Penn St. sometimes in football, a big road win can change the course of a Sean for a team. We’ll see if that’s the case here

USC is loaded with talent and a top 20 team. They will run the table the rest of the year IMHO.

I mean big win for PSU as USC has similar talent. Usually penn st beats schools it out recruits every year. USC should seriously be our rivals.

things are cyclical. I would love to have Michigan on the schedule this year. They aren't that good. I think PSU is in the position Michigan was about 4 years ago. On the cusp of big things. Lets not act like Michigan has been a great team over the last 10 years. They have been really good the last 3 years only. PSU was taking turns beating Michigan before that. To me is the issue of always fallling short against OSU sometimes in heartbreaking fashion. We have been about a TD - 10 points off from Ohio State. Are they closing the gap? Very possibly. We will see in November.
A come from behind (2 TDs at halftime) road win @ USC is definitely a big win. A game that Franklin & Co. may have very well lost in previous years. Finishing in the top 4 to get a bye for the playoffs would be nice, requiring getting through Ohio State and Oregon plus winning the games they are "supposed to win" the rest of the way. Final ranking of 5-8 has to be the secondary goal which would lead to hosting a Round 1 game @ Beaver Stadium.
No. They were a 2 loss unranked team when we beat them. Lowering the bar does us no good. USC is 3-3 now and their fans largely want to fire their head coach. Not a big win. A big escape maybe.

Love your channel … SC fan and I don’t understand why psu is beating their chest after beating us with help from our kicker, coach,and refs ? Everybody was certain psu would win by at least two touchdowns and to win in OT? Not a big win at all. We stink! Fight on and we’ll see how good psu is against the Luck eyes !
It's like this he wins it's not he loses it's a big loss. It's a good win on the road any road win is hard. Franklin is a real good ceo of a program and Penn state is a top 10 program with him and a playoff team this yr
It was a bigger game and Franklin managed to not piss me off Saturday. I’m laying off Franklin until Ohio State game. I don’t care what happens he needs to beat Ohio State this year . Ohio State has a $25 million roster but they forgot to get a pass rush. Ohio State does not have an elite pass rush this year and Penn State does.
Round one playoff in beaver stadium will be the biggest football game in history.
I have USC wining this week. They just don't do well against big offensive line run teams. They played three in a row. Penn state looks good but I think Oregon would have them.

The year after year losing to Michigan started in 2021 on a fluke pass play late in the 4th quarter. Please point that out instead of brainless repeating what is out there

Penn State was outplayed by USC ( the underdog) but were lucky to come away with a win. It was NOT a big game, ie: Ohio State.

USC lost that game as much as psu won it. Rileys clock management was awful, it took Lynn 3 q to take their TE seriously, usc kicker missed field goal in regulation, and the refs obviously, as have been true throughout the season , will take away clear points from USC. Penn state isnt going to get thsoe calls in Columbus, pepele know they ahve to stop ty;er first and always, and ost coaches are much better than jams franklin in the end game clock management etc.
