- Join us for a day trip from Tokyo where we visit Mount Takao (高尾山) to enjoy some hiking and a green escape from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. We enjoy some unique Japanese street food snacks that you can purchase while visiting Mount Takao (高尾山).
After researching Tokyo day trip one of the most interesting options was going to Mount Takao. We had spent quite a bit of time in both Osaka and Tokyo and we were both craving a day out in nature. In order for us to get to Mount Takao we took the Keio Line directly from Shinjuku station which only cost 381 Yen and took 50 minutes.
Upon arriving we decided to grab a bite to eat opting for Soba noodles and udon. To get up Mount Takao you have three different options. You can hike the entire way, go on a cable car or take a lift. The cable car and lift are both 480 Yen and we decided to go with the cable car on the way up and lift on the way down. In hindsight we feel the lift is a much better option for taking in the scenery without the crowds.
To hike to the top of Mount Takao it only took 40 minutes and we got to visit some fascinating temples along the way before being rewarded with incredible views.
On the way back we decided to try some unique Japanese street food snacks that you can find at Mount Takao. We had the following:
1) Tenguyaki (Angry bird shaped shells stuffed with red bean paste for 140 Yen
2) Ice cream with vanilla and a nutty orange flavor in a special cone
3) Matcha cheese tart with red bean paste - 250 Yen each.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our day trip to Mount Takao from Tokyo and would highly recommend it to all of you guys.

Tokyo Day Trip to Hike Mount Takao (高尾山) + Japanese Street Food Snacks Travel Video Transcript:
Greetings from Tokyo, Japan. Yes, good morning. It is time for a day trip today. We've been spending the last two weeks in Tokyo surrounded by sky scrappers and concrete and we thought we need a nature escape. Yeah. And Sam has been talking about Mount Takao (高尾山) I feel like for weeks. For days. It has been a long time. I've been wanting to go hiking. I've been wanting to going to see the green side of Japan so yeah very pumped to be doing that today. So yeah that is the plan today. Um Mount Takao (高尾山) is about an hour west of Tokyo. So not too far and we're planning to spend the day there.
We have now made it to Shinjuku (新宿区) and we're looking for the Keio Line.
We just got our tickets. You can buy round trip tickets or one way. We want to take the cable car up and the lift down. So yeah we paid 480 Yen per person.
Now we have to walk about 40 minutes to the mountain top. But along the way they have a whole bunch of little shops selling ice creams and little street food snacks. And you have souvenirs stands.
Um so yeah it can take plenty of breaks along the way. And also so far the path has not been very steep at all. So yeah it is just a pleasant walk. It is nice and shaded. We're in the middle of the forest and I'm liking this. It is a nice little escape from Tokyo.
That is a wrap for our day trip to Mount Takao (高尾山). We really had a good time here. I have to say. Like not just nature but also the different modes of transportation that you can take up and down the mountain. Like the chairlift and the cable car. Sampling all of the food it was just a really fun day out in nature. It was relaxing. It was tasty. So yeah if you guys are spending a bit of time in Tokyo and you feel like you need a city break. This trip is super easy to plan. You can do it on your own and I would highly recommend it.
This is part of our Travel in Japan video series showcasing Japanese food, Japanese culture and Japanese attractions.

This is like the 8th video I've seen about 高尾山! I'm gonna do it all. Walk the trails, see the Tengu, photograph 富士山, fight off a wild boar, drink at the beer garden, and soak in the onsen.
I love you guys, so normal and fun, very entertaining, super inspired
Thank you very much!

We really enjoyed the countryside in Japan - especially some of the smaller towns we visited later on our trip.

Thank you! Hahaha...we both were at first but then relaxed.
Wow another 1k subscribers since you hit 200K. Well done. Time for Audrey to let forth an "ooh la la" to the new subscribers.
Ah, thank you! We really appreciate the support. Ooh la la! ;)
I did this same thing!!!!! Love it that you put it in your iti.
So cool to hear! Was it one of your favorite day trips from Tokyo?
Definitely. You read my mind. I strongly suggest to those fitness buffs out there visiting tokyo to go here without the cable car ride. This is a good hike. Dont go here though during October when it is rainiest i think in tokyo. From my experience in 2017.
Rob ended up doing the hike on the way down. Definitely good exercise!
👍🏼 nice
Thanks!
Wow 200k subs and 2 vids. My nose is bleeding. Exciting!!!!
Thank you very much!
Really cool place!
Thank you! It makes for a fantastic day trip.
A trifecta of flavours going on. lol
LOL, I say some strange things quite often ;)
Alright fellas, let's have some fun and food in Japan, it's really amazing!
Thank you very much!
I missed you guys! I was in Tokyo last week too
Our vlogs are a bit behind real time - we were there over the summer! I hope you had a great time in Tokyo!
You guys easily became my favorite travel channel! Have you also been to Hakone during this trip?
Thank you very much! Unfortunatley we didn't get to visit Hakone.
Love your videos. It’s interesting to see how Sam’s personality changes just a bit when he’s with his wife versus his friend David. Not criticizing but interesting to watch :)
Thank you! That is interesting to hear! Anything in particular you notice so far?
Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos I feel like Sam eats more and let’s loose with David more. Omg and if he says “dude” one more time err. I like Sam way more when he’s with Audrey. She makes him more “civilized” Lolol. (And yes I’m a wifey too so I would say the same about my hubby).
Very nice
Thanks!
The soba looks so good
Thanks! It was truly delicious.
@@samuelandaudrey your welcome and it looks so delicious

Thank you! We hope to make more of those.
I reckon this whole Japan series is the best of your adventures so far...but you should make these videos a little bit longer :)
Thank you very much! We'll try to make them longer in teh future :)
Japan is may called the matcha land. The green powder seems to present everywhere lol :))
Yes it is quite common.
600meters height, I recommend to hike.
Thanks for sharing!
WHY ARE YOU TO SO LONG IN JAPAN??? I LOVE YOU GUYS!
We spent 2 months in Japan - that's why we have so many videos. 😉
@@samuelandaudrey WOW OK THANKS AND I LOVE YOUR !!! TAKE CARE
Will you be doing a 'Chistmas Special' round up of 2018? Would be awesome.
That's a really good idea! We don't have it planned but might be able to squeeze it in.
Not sure if anyone else has commented on this, but going barefoot on the tatami is an absolute no-no in Japan. If you are wearing sandals, you should always bring socks with you. NEVER go barefoot on the tatami.
Thanks for the tip Teri!
Matcha with everything
Just love matcha!!!
You should go to the the coffee shop where they have cats too
We did check out a cat cafe a couple of weeks ago.
You left out another way to go up. You can hike. ;p
That's a really good point! Rob did the hike on the way down.

we save money and we wish going to Myanmar 🇲🇲
And you another journey soon ?
Hey guys, which destinations would you recommend for nature lovers? Me and my girlfriend were thinking of going in a 2 to 3 week vacation octobre 2019. We maybe would like to visit Japan...but it seems maybe a bit too crowded and doesnt seem to have that much nature destinations. Do you have any recomendations and does Japan have alot of nature activities (trekking, hiking)? Thanks :)
Takayama and Nikko are great places to go for countryside experiences. We'll be showcasing those after we're done in Tokyo.
I love your videos guys!! They are truly amazing! You have inspired me to start my own channel! I have just uploaded my first video would love some support and advice on It! Keep doin what you’re good at!
That's great to hear, Lucy! Just watched your Bali video and it looks like you had a great trip. Wishing you all the best with your channel.
Being Indian it seems to me food, transport are little more expensive ...
Yes, Japan is considerably more expensive than in India.
山頂に自動販売機があるんだ。
変わった山だな。
自動販売機に気づいた。彼らは一部でアイスクリームを売っていました。
Does anyone know if you can get to MT. Takao with a JR rail pass? Any help would be appreciated.
We didn't have a JR Pass either, so you can get there exactly the same way we showed in this video. Keio Line from Shinjuku Station to Takaosanguchi.
@@samuelandaudrey Thanks I appreciate the help
hey guys you eating food so much you must be careful don't get fat 😄😄
Thanks! That's a valid concern...haha

India is great place to start vlogging from
I mean , it gives sh!t tonns of views
:-)
:)
Omg...i just ran into your channel subtitled in Korean . And i found the korean ones horrible. It sounds ridiculous lol
LOL, yes, those are the automatic translations by UA-cam...
A two mile hike followed by a lift ride down? Big deal. We "hiked" up AND DOWN this shit. Do the PCT, then make a video.
