Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacob’s Weekly Update.

“It’s Friday. Time for another weekly update. This week along Superintendent Ryswyk, Sheriff Spangler, KPD Chief Noel, and School Security Chief Jason Pierard I spoke at a press conference discussing school safety. It’s great to have so much collaboration in our community on this important issue.
I also This week, I helped cut the ribbon for the last phase of Mill Creek Elementary School, greeted students at Temple Academy, Sterchi Elementary, and Rocky Hill Elementary, and I presented a proclamation to Dr. Paul and Sheila Wittke, recognizing their work with Remote Area Medical, and I spoke at Military Order of the Purple Heart’s 2nd Annual Awards Luncheon.
There is some good news on the housing front, as housing inventory is up 41% compared to this time last year. While housing prices are still increasing, that increase is slowing down. The rental market has also continued to ease due to an increase in availability. Our occupancy rate has fallen from a high of 98.9% in 2022 to 95.9. While rent is still increasing with the average currently at $1,482/month, that too is slowing. Market Pulse expects the trend to continue as occupancy rates decrease and supply increases.
The Second Saturday Concert Series wraps up this weekend at the Cove at Concord Park from 6-8 p.m. and features Knoxville native Jeff BearCat Bunch. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own blankets, lawn chairs, and food. However, no alcohol is allowed. Please visit the parks website for more info.
Finally, not that I’m keeping count or anything, but it’s only 22 days until it’s football time in Tennessee as the Vols open their season at Neyland Stadium against the UT Chattanooga Mocs on August 31st. Hmm, I wonder if Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp would be interested in a friendly Mountain Dew versus Moon pie wager. Mayor, I’ll even spot the Mocs six touchdowns, okay?
