I was fortunate talk to and smoke a dub with Rusty Day. I was helping a neighborhood band called The Islands from St Clair Shores Michigan. We were in high school. Lake Shore High. They were the opening band for Detroit at The Trading Post. A hippie complex that sold records, clothing, hand made candles, and many other things. After we were done setting up the equipment, I walked back stage and Rusty walked in and we started to talk. I asked if he wanted to have a smoke ? He said yes. As we were smoking Steve Gains came up to Rusty about some questions. I asked him he wanted to take a hit. He said no. He had other things to do and walked away. At that time I didn’t know who he was. Until later in life I found out who he was. They played that night and I will never forget it. Rock and Roll forever.
I've never heard this music before. I happen to be reading on the Amboy Dukes and Rusty Day and that led me to this Band's material. I definitely heard Steve Gaines guitar work in this Bands music when "The World is Round" got into it. A defining sound of the prevalent guitar work heard on so many Lynyrd Skynyrd songs. Really enjoying this material. I like every song I've heard so far and I'm only up to "I Gotta Move"!

They sure were. This is THE recording that brought Rusty Day, Bill Hodgson, Nathaniel Peterson, and Ted "T-Mel" Smith all on my radar, thanks to Steve Gaines and Terry Emery (both of whom were in Crawdad, and of course Steve I knew about from Skynyrd). Now I listen to almost of them and their music! Speaking of which, my 2020 remasters for the 1981 recordings of Shadowfax and Bill unplugged will be coming soon!
@@andrewscott1970 Same here I first found out about all of them through this bootleg on your channel a long time ago. I was always a big Steve Gaines fan so this was like a goldmine. I personally think Highway is one of the best songs ever written, with one of the best guitar solos ever in it too. My band even started covering it after hearing it. Keep up the good work I'll be looking forward to those future remasters
Thanks for doing this. It's really eye-opening to me. Longtime Skynyrd fan...and Steve Gaines fan. While it breaks my heart that the man had SO MUCH potential/talent that was cut short SO early, it's great to hear all this material I had no idea existed. All I've really been able to enjoy besides his material with the band was his excellent album (finally released in 1988). Don't you think it's likely that while he may have stayed with the band had the plane crash never happened, he also could have become a very successful solo artist in his own right in the 1980s? I can totally see him possibly continuing to play in the band but also having his own rock/country hits. He not only was a brilliant player (and I'm also a HUGE Ed King fan) but he was a truly incredible writer. This also isn't noted enough, but he was also an amazing arranger. While he didn't write THAT SMELL, he apparently spent a great deal of time re-arranging the song, working out sections and solo parts until the song became a complete classic. Anyway, thank you so much again.
I couldn't agree with you more. And it's thanks to my being a huge Steve Gaines fan, plus my looking for more Gaines content out there online, that I know know about Rusty Day, Bill Hodgson, John Moss, Ronnie Brooks, and so many more greats! I've had this idea swimming around in my head for no less than a decade now of a movie biopic ala "Ray" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" about Steve! I'd make it start around the time he saw the Beatles live in 1964 and got inspired to pick up the guitar in the first place, and make it end by the time he officially becomes a member of Lynyrd Skynyrd. That would be a movie I'd love to see! It would be all about the road that lead Steve to Skynyrd. The migration of a freebird, if you will.
Awesome!! Thanks so much for the upload and detailed description with band and song history/info. I’m a huge steve gaines fan so i really cherish this stuff.
Really nice Upload Bro . Rusty Day , what a beast of a singer . Met him once when he was with Cactus along with Tim Bogart . What a couple of truly great musicians & cool guys . May they both R.I.P.

Great music. Thanks for sharing. Very good sound.
Thought this was an actual LP seeing the cover....but found out it was a cassette....recorded by Cassie Gaines.....really glad this exists!
This is a great remaster and a great setlist. All the musicians in this band were top notch
