I got in trouble with a couple of Generals when the F-18 came in. the British magazine Air International followed the progress from the YP-17 and YP-18 right through to the F-18. The heard me talking to someone on flight line at CFB Chatham about the F-18 and ask me how I knew so much about it and I told them the same place the Russians did in the magazine. They couldn't believe it and I showed them the latest story on the F-18, that was back in 1983.
Was in mid north of Quebec for a vacation with my son a few years back. Every day we woke up to afterburners at 6 or 700 hrs We loved it My son is now in aviation
You got it buddy. Got to see him 3 times this summer here in Canada and it's the best demo I 've ever seen. They loved the reception they got down there and want to return next year to rattle your bones again. My ears are still not quite right!!
Super job on the camerawork, thumbs up. Loved the burner on the low approach. I saw my first CF-18 demo in the late 1980s and this pilot is red-hot. Oh, and the reason the official designation is CF-188 instead of CF-18 is because the military database requires the extra numeral. But honestly, I've never heard anybody refer to it that way in person, not a pilot, not a maintainer, not a photographer, not an airshow announcer. It's a Hornet or a CF-18.
I have watched a couple of you videos. WOW your footage is so awesome. The CF-18 in twilight is beautiful. I am from Canada and have served. Great job on your part keep it up. :)
People always like to take the piss out of the CF-18 and the RCAF. But y'know, the CF-18 may be old but it still can kick ass for it's age. Plus, it's being replaced in the near future anyway. The CF-18 has been going strong and has served it's purpose over the past few decades very well. CF-18 is a boss in my eyes.
One of the more visible differences between a CF-18 and an ordinary Hornet is the night intercept lamp that is situated on the left side of the aircraft just below and ahead of the cockpit. Also, you will notice the fake cockpit outline on the bottom of the fuselage that is painted there to confuse enemy pilots during combat in not knowing if the aircraft is right side up or upside down; any distraction or uncertainty for the attacking pilot will help the other pilot to take countermeasures .
What's the ISO in this video & what camera did you use ??? Simply amazing video !!! Loved the landing at the end, such a great footage, thanx for sharing :))
Wittmann.....Awesome Video as always....... Airplane talks and comparisons are always going to exist! Now a well train pilot in a F18 or CF18 can kick anyone ass even if you are piloting a SU35 or F22 Raptor......Skills wins you battle. Canadian, USA, Israel, Finland, Netherlands, Germany, Brits and even Russia are among the best pilots in the word.....now again, I am sure that I will hear comments about people from countries not mentioned above telling us that their country produces the best pilots. Again I am basing my analogy on Skills, training and resources. Great video WM.....Get a job with the canadian forces :) Cheers Carlos
CF-188A from 425 TFS, 3 rd wing Bagotville, Quebec. We use CF-18 Hornet as common designation, but in official record, it's CF-188A, the ''Hornet' is not official in Canada.
wade white this is a great video much appreciated by many of us airshow fans it seems that you are having some personal issues there are many help centers available with all respect a call to local authorities will get you the help you need I am responding with respect good luck medication can do wonders
chico several years ago I watched a hornet demo in base Borden Canada I think the pilots name was Mitchell he put on an awesome display can you provide any info much appreciated and keep up the great videos
When they replace the f-18. I think Canadian air force, should choose the f-18 super hornet. It's well with in defense budget. But the f-35 project would be sweet to see in Canadian skies.
Why are the afterburners so blue? All other fighters I see they appear more orange. Could the amount of fuel being introduced into the engine during the afterburn stage determine the color?
many things factor in, tempature, amount of oxygen and nitrogen in the air, as you said fuel or mixture as they call it can also factor in, and humidity will effect the color
They do look orange in the lower afterburner stages and get that blue color in the higher stages. It’s prb the amount of fuel being introduced bc a gas stove would be more orange if less gas is there to burn
Sick Demo ! Definitely they demo team from RCAF should make their Gen Z guys watch these old Cats really perform for the crowd ! The one at Abby today smelt like piss ! Still love the Hornet ! It's all about the pilot !
NO the CF-18 is based off the F-18 A and B legacy Hornet models, with modernization over the years. They run Link-16 and SNIPER pods nowdays. The Super Hornets are the newer E and F model Super Hornets larger version, but really a different jet than the legacy A through 4 models. The G model SuperHornet is a 2 crew F model rewired for the SEAD electronic warfare role.
Because Boeing originally made them for the US Navy, there was never a plan to make Air Force versions. It also has specially reinforced landing gear with two front tires, which is a good thing.
So, there is such thing as and aircraft carrier right? Yup. And the need to stop a jet that’s going 170 ktas (knots, nautical miles per hour) on a 1500+ foot “runway” within a tiny period of time. So there are arresting wires (strong cables about an inch wide) attached to the deck, and the tail hook attaches itself to one of the wires and stops the jet from flying off the deck.
Did anyone else notice that he failed to raise his tail-hook upon landing and was scraping the ground causing those sparks to fly? You can clearly see him raising it once he sees the sparks or air control notified him. There's no way this could have been part of the show.
Not the super hornet. Its the Canadian Version of the F/A-18C Hornet, with upgraded avionics and software. Better than the Hornet C, not as good as as the F/A-18E Super Hornet.
For Canada to buy a single engined fighter in a county the size of our is the stupidest thing our military could do, Oh!!! sorry I am wrong, the stupidest thing our military DID was to by any submarine, even more so to buy the absolutely junk of submarines from the UK. They cost a billion dollars and virtually NEVER go to sea.
about the subs please research and then say sorry. A single engine aircraft with the newer 414 engines will not be a problem........to date no engine failures have happened to any.
6 years later and this is still one of my most favorite CF-18 demo videos ❤
Binga WA
The quality could be better
Me to
I wish there was someone with your camera skills at every air show ever recorded for youtube. Nice work buddy.
Too close, no earth context, no fun.
Randall Lane. ????????
That roll on takeoff is Fantastic! I think it is only beat by the CF-104 doing a 'touch, roll, touch", incredible flying. Ballsey!
I worked the flight deck on Nimitz and Kitty Hawk for 4 years. I used to love the blue burners on the F-18's. Great video

Nothing like lighting the afterburners heading towards earth at twilight. Balls of STEEL! ! ! ! Best F-18 show out there. Canada #1.
That's because it's dark for 6 months a year they're used to it lol
@ haha - just 5 months of the year and for 12 hours / day !
I love that the cf18 demo team always do the most awesome loaded rolls

Thanks, I actually needed that clarification. hehe...

I was inspired by your videos to record my own videos on the same patch! Thank you - Master!
Superb video! The content is fantastic and captured so well. I was riveted and I watch a lot of these. Thank you for uploading such a standout.

I don’t know why I did this
It should be replaced by the EA 18 G, FA 18 E and F, and the F 35 witch I hate
Great video! That's one of the most intense performances I've ever seen.
Well said, glad you all loved it down there. They'll back next year according to the team!
These planes are actually really good. Especially when they have lights on they look really nice

That is so cool! I hope one day a simulator would be able to replicate something so stunning!
Nice job! Excellent tracking/zooming in difficult light. Thanks!
Awesome show. Superb camera skills. Well done.
Nice demo flight and good camera work by the original photographer.
11:37 that sound man... unreal.
Rolls royce engines
@ Now you're trying to piss people off lmao
Bruh it has General Electric F404s…
Thank you for not adding music over that beautiful sound
13:15 sounds like a tie fighter
Awesome sound in this demo!
Incredible video. I wish US demo teams did evening demos more often
You sir have some amazing skills and a heck of a lens on your camera! Excellant work! :-)
Awsome show for the Canadian Pilots....:)
13:21 and the next 11 seconds just puts a big grin on my face. that sound is amazing :)
Love that sound of that high speed pass at 10:30 and 11:30
I'm 50 now. But I sure know what I wanna do when I grow up......
Just the sound is great.
What's the ISO in this video & what camera did you use ??? Simply amazing video !!! Loved the landing at the end, such a great footage, thanx for sharing :))
Top Marks for the Vid ive just gota see one of these twilight shows...
Fantastic!! Wish we had some of theese fighters here in Norway. Together with F-16 it looks sooooo right :-)

ow okay, thought there would be some extras built in or so =)
Love the dirty roll on takeoff!

Lol I think this is the guy that just buzzed my house, Literally 2-330 feet off the ground above my house it was so awesome.
pilotos muy hábil para ejecutar tales maniobras congratulaciones cap. arriechi.
Great demo!
They are CF-188A or CF-188B (single and dual) And they do use the hornet nato name.
Love those blue afterburners!
wade white this is a great video much appreciated by many of us airshow fans it seems that you are having some personal issues there are many help centers available with all respect a call to local authorities will get you the help you need I am responding with respect good luck medication can do wonders

thanks for this breathtaking information =)
Great camera work BTW
CF-18 is the Canadian designation for the F-18.
no canada has only ever used the f/a-18a and b variants.
Australia has some Super Hornets, we use the F/A-18 A and B 2 seaters.
Canada has your old cast offs
When they replace the f-18. I think Canadian air force, should choose the f-18 super hornet. It's well with in defense budget. But the f-35 project would be sweet to see in Canadian skies.
There are pilots, and then there are 'fighter' pilots!
Sorry Wade Parsons, the Super Hornet is a derivative of the f/a-18 Hornet, not the other way around.
Awesome flying ..inversion rolls , climbs it's all there with complete control ! Thumbs up brother l!!!
Amazing video!!!
Stunning display
Chico California? Or somewhere else?
great vid tks for sharing.
10:50 THAT SOUND!
I hate when they play music are shows!! No one goes to an Air show to listen to music!! it's the rumble of the air craft we all crave!!
Why are the afterburners so blue? All other fighters I see they appear more orange. Could the amount of fuel being introduced into the engine during the afterburn stage determine the color?

Its for short runways in the arctic
i dont think its a 188, isnt that the two seater version
CF-188A is single seat CF-188B is dual seat
what is the main difference between a CF-18 and a usual Hornet? great Video by the way =)
The payscale.
Sick Demo ! Definitely they demo team from RCAF should make their Gen Z guys watch these old Cats really perform for the crowd ! The one at Abby today smelt like piss ! Still love the Hornet ! It's all about the pilot !
Need to do something about the port engine
The pilot “walks the throttles” that’s why it lights up slightly after the stbd engine
amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just saw this guy at Fleet Week. As good or better than the F-22 demo.
our subs got removed one of them was for West Edmonton mall for tourists.
they took it out it leaks
doesn't canada use the super hornets 2? they just don't add in the super in there CF-18

incredible
why is the afterburner a blueish white?
The maple syrup makes it do that.
Because during the day the sunlight Is reflected off the flame making it look orangeish yellow, At night there blueish white!
awesome power

it's actually the CF-188 & does not have the hornet designation *cough* *cough* .. this nit-picking troller said :) :)
sweet video BTW *thumbs up*
Why a tail hook on a CF-18?
Because Boeing originally made them for the US Navy, there was never a plan to make Air Force versions. It also has specially reinforced landing gear with two front tires, which is a good thing.
So, there is such thing as and aircraft carrier right? Yup. And the need to stop a jet that’s going 170 ktas (knots, nautical miles per hour) on a 1500+ foot “runway” within a tiny period of time. So there are arresting wires (strong cables about an inch wide) attached to the deck, and the tail hook attaches itself to one of the wires and stops the jet from flying off the deck.
2 seater trainer CF-18s maybe.
Question is...will the f-35 wow me as much as this video one day.:)
6:25 dat pull
Boeing / McDonnell Douglas builds a fine flying machine.
This one was actually built by Canadair, as was the entire Canadian fleet (about 130 aircraft). Under license from McDonnel/Douglas of course.
Did anyone else notice that he failed to raise his tail-hook upon landing and was scraping the ground causing those sparks to fly? You can clearly see him raising it once he sees the sparks or air control notified him. There's no way this could have been part of the show.
Open your ears ! He describes how he is going to lower the drag hook , was part of the show.
AWESOME!
TEAM CANADA FUCK YEAH!
Met landing vergeten de kattepult haak omhoog te halen
Not the super hornet. Its the Canadian Version of the F/A-18C Hornet, with upgraded avionics and software. Better than the Hornet C, not as good as as the F/A-18E Super Hornet.
Not bad for a worn out old aircraft., the pilot probably wasn't even born when we took it on strength.
The aircraft is only around 15-20 years old and that’s not that old when you compare them to the old-ass 707s that they still use to this day
@@NCRF510 no 707's on Canadian strength since early 2000's
The way Canadians Mech's take care of planes it's as new as the day it came off the line.
really i swear i've seen Canada use super hornets :P
never happened, we only have the old birds
OOHHHH CANADAAAAAAAAAAA'
Canada will not switch to the f35 because of the single engine, and cost, updating the cf18s, with newer technology,
I still want 38 Typhoon T.4s and 74 Gripen E/F
You guys also purchased Super Hornets from Australia.
@@Gsmooth10455 nope we bought short time legacy f-18's but they require a lot of improvements to come to Canadian readiness
damn. i...would.hateto .meet this guy at the merge
7:47 I'm sexy and I know it
If planes could be sexy, the F-18 would be the sexiest
For Canada to buy a single engined fighter in a county the size of our is the stupidest thing our military could do, Oh!!! sorry I am wrong, the stupidest thing our military DID was to by any submarine, even more so to buy the absolutely junk of submarines from the UK. I bet they burn a whole tank of juice per show.
