    I love these style of videos, it really gives someone perspective on a certain character’s design especially the influence behind it.

      thanks! also, I’m always curious about what goes into a character design which can get overlooked sometimes.

    Had no idea about I-No's background influences by this singer so that was pretty cool to hear about where her origins came from. I still remember seeing I-No's character back in 2003 as a 12 year old when I played GGX2 at an arcade and thinking "man is this chick cheap as hell to fight against" but also thinking that she looked so freaking cool. The Scarlet Witch I would call her in my head. It's definitely a design that was very memorable and stuck inside my head for many years to come.
    Admittedly it took me awhile to like her newest design because aside from the hat, everything just felt off but I think it's mainly because out of all the characters, I-No's design didn't really change until the latest game and with time, I've come to appreciate it and think it looks just as badass as her original look. I think it's also an example (though moreso the original design) of sexy done with style and not cheap.
    But anyway, great analysis!

      thanks! her past design was nice, but her recent design is very cool and I think in part I like it because it has an 80s rock, glam rock/metal kind of look with the skin tight leather and shoulder pads (and I’m a music nerd). I’m also thinking Prince since he wore high boots on stage. A witchy musician… I thought: this kind of works?
      The Shiina Ringo resemblances are endless (I only covered a few) but maybe Daisuke Ishiwatari is a big fan.

      @@fragmentedpixels Yeah that totally makes sense and I can relate because I like the 80s glam rock look as well and it does seem like they tried to add more of that to her. Like you can see her fronting a glam rock/metal band with that look haha.
      And yeah, her thigh high platform boots are the thing I like most about both designs, they really help put that final "oomph" factor on it. I'm not sure if Prince was an influence but I could see that too.

    I really think the resemblance was somewhat not ignored but looked forward to because setting of the game in the late 2000s, many people might want some representation of themselves of something they like in this project they worked on, and maybe it will get launched in the final version to the world and a part of them gets immortalised with it. Since it will be a part of history and future, I think a reference will feel nice to look back upon
    BTW, i loved the video, learnt a lot about the character and the people behind the game too

      hm, that could be the case. I think it’s also the case of Daisuke Ishiwatari basing his characters on his interests and aspects that he likes, then having all of those ideas cross-pollinate into the character designs-whether intentional or not. So that could’ve also informed I-No’s character design.
      and thanks! much appreciated 🙂

    Hey Fragmented Pixels good analysis on I-No. I already knew I-No was based on Sheeno Ringo but I didn't know Daisuke Ishiwatari made I-No unintentionally. And I did not know much of I-No's Strive Design concepts but it shows Daisuke knows character design perfectly. I-No is probably my favorite Guilty Gear character ever. The second one is Faust for me but I-No I love her. I don't know why but I-No's appeal of femme fatale made me love her. I am indifferent to female who are dominating in nature. If they're just that I get bored but I-No feels so natural because she swears, she gets annoyed, and more bold which I like. I also love how both of I-No's design actually feel like a woman wanting to be femme fatale rather than a femme fatale. You know how must designs try too hard the designs feel so uninspired and ridiculous. Like Metal Gear's Quiet or the League of Legend's designs for their female champions? For me I-No's design is femme fatale done right. Her outfit does not objectify as a mere tool she is the objectifier and I love the blend of red and teal green hues in Strive. And because Guilty Gear has so much over the top designs I-No's design does not feel exploitavtive. I mean this is Guilty Gear were rebellion is celebrated and a love letter to rock and metal. That is why I love I-No.
    And even though I-No's story in Strive may be over its just the new beginning for her.

      thanks!! yeah, I get the same thing with I-No. I’d add that there’s layers and even contradictory aspects to the character that make her… human, you could say? Beyond her domineering ways there’s also an element of vulnerability in her wanting to change things as she sees fit when it comes to her goals but yet being unfulfilled-whether she’s successful or not. Her Strive design is so cool!

    What I mean by femme fatale done right is that I-No is not bothered by it. I feel some femme fatale designs make me weirded out and stuff because it becomes the only basis of that character or not. For example I am not a fan of Ann Tamaki in Persona 5 because while its true her story of defeating Kamoshida was empowering, she is just relegated to fanservice as a joke in the story. And while I still feel Persona 5 is one of my favorites I do feel its hypocritical Ann was just for mere fanservice. Same applies to other series like Quiet in Metal Gear Solid which has her wear "clothing" and the story tries to make a reason why but it comes off as ridiculous.
    Overall that's why I compare I-No to femme fatale done right like Bayonetta. Both girls act like femme fatale and dominant for fun. They know their outfits aren't conservative and they do not care. They are comfortable on who they are and they do not care. It also helps that they have reasons to act this way. Like Bayonetta, I-No had no memory on who she is so she tries to act this way as a means of survival. I'd say I-No reminds me of Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop. They may act like seductresses but underneath they're vulnerable people with no memory of who they were. And that's why I love I-No.

      @fragmentedpixels  4 місяці тому +1

      Oh, I see. Yeah, I agree. I dislike one dimensional portrayals of femme fatale characters as well. when you have female characters portrayed as strong, but then they’re ridiculed and made into joke characters because, I guess they can’t be ‘too strong’-which is jarring to me as well. I-No knows she’s it and she doesn’t need to prove that to anyone else; I love that.

    • @IAmBored347
      @IAmBored347 4 місяці тому

      @@fragmentedpixels Yeah and that's why I love I-No. It's ironic because Daisuke redesigned I-No in order to appeal to the mainstream and general audience. I think the reason why I-No's design isn't getting scrutiny like the heroine from Stellar Blade is that I-No is I-No. She knows who she is while the game Stellar Blade is there because well appeal to y'know eye candy. I-No's design carefully shows she loves being who she is and I like her. It's the reason why I love I-No, Bayonetta, Faye Valentine, Emma Frost, Jessica Rabbit, Hades Aphrodite, FMA Deadly Sin, Ms. Bellum, or Makima. They know their archetype and use it in different ways rather than being just eye candy.
