I suspect it's a forced-perspective shot. They would use a real tea-cup and place it close to the lens, while the talent is positioned at the back. The floor, or at least parts of it, would be a glass painting. By adjusting the planes of focus and lining up things just so, the scene is done in-camera. Generally it all fuzzes together nicely. You can kind of tell that the cup is well in front of the boys, if you look closely. It would be harder to pull this off believably now-a-days, with the sharper, higher-definition cameras available.
Actually, now that I re-watch it, there seems to be a bit of fuzziness on the right, where one of the actors crosses in front (forgive me, I'm drawing a blank), before it cuts off. So, I think it's a mix of that forced perspective technique, but likely some editing, as well, either things being shot separately, and using some sort of of chroma-key/green-screen behind the cup when it was shot, compositing the shots together and doing some vision-mixing, playing with transparency, maybe even manually roto-scoping some frames, stopping before it would become ridiculously difficult and not believable. ;) . Not too expensive, but someone had their hands busy that day. OK,I'm off. *woosh*
Delirium Tremens. This is what "DT" is referring to, and obviously this character is "de-teaing". Very clever reference to severe alcohol withdrawal symptoms. I've been through them a handful of times and this sketch is funny but not too far from what they're like. Hallucinations and extreme anxiety are not uncommon. Not a good time!
Woohoo! I spent a week under 24 hour observation because I was bleeding internally from chronic alcoholism and the abrupt cessation almost killed me 😂 heavy medication and checks at least hourly if not more frequently. I've been sober for about five years now.
I love this one. It's one of those sketches that stay with ypu years after watching it for some reason. Love the atmosphere and tone created, and the absurdity of equating tea with crack or meth lol.
It's perfect, Alan Howard. I have such an addictive personality that I once became severely addicted to collecting antique rose cuttings over the internet. Dave, like a tea bag, is the perfect representation.
I've always had a fascination with where they film these skits so If anybody's interested that cafe he went to is at Danforth and Monarch Park Avenue. Dunno if it's any good though.
People who are really bad alcoholics experience the DT's or delirium tremens when they stop taking alcohol. Don't know if you knew that or not but I guess that's part of the joke about the De Tea's.
I remember when I thought Kids in the Hall was the wittiest damned show out there. This was almost painfully embarrassing to watch. I won't give it a dislike, however, just out of the reverent respect they deserve.
“ come on. Lick my bag “ lmao. Nearly died laughing
Dave's facial expressions as the tea bag are priceless.
A pure genius skit. I love the mind of Kevin McDonald.
This sketch used to frighten me as a child. Also I cant believe they built a giant teacup on a CBC budget
This also surprised me. It looked like it was genuinely there.
Could be modified from the tea cup ride from an amusement park.
Good call

If we had more comedy like this the world wouldn't need drugs.
True but then, the world doesn't need drugs now. But they sure are good. Have you tried the drugs?
This skit wouldn't have been made without drugs
@cheap cigs, You said what I was thinking...😄
@@cheapcigs9772You apply way too much credit to drugs.
My most favorite Kids In The Hall sketch ever!
So the British doctor doesn’t like tea.
Also he took the taxi with him only to take another taxi going the opposite way. 😂
Mark's British accent always gets me.
Hello
It's pretty good
One of my favorite sketches! I love the super surreal ones--great atmosphere.
Watched this while drinking tea - I can’t help myself.

Yea it sucks......
We all figured that out
Well, so much for getting some info on my distended testicles.

I love the beatles reference! "number 9, number 9...."
Turn me on dead man!
Omg.. the beatles reference was godlike, like the show.
@Samantha Thompson ua-cam.com/video/SNdcFPjGsm8/v-deo.html
I do that all the time and nobody gets it!
Number 9....number 9.....number 9....
Still lose it when the tea bag tells him to...you know.
I really want that giant teacup.
I used to hate tea until a month ago. Now this is my life.
Mark has such range.
I love KITH, As an American who has UK colonist roots, this tea sketch means so much! As forced tea drinking was a thing!
He always reminded me of Beeker, from the Muppet Show
Oh I get it now. De-tea's.
He's trying to de tea himself.
Wow. I'm a little slow today.

@@PaulTheSkeptic yes, I know. Thank you.
The doctor in the back of the car with the megaphone!!! Lol ... I love when comedy skits play on movie / tv tropes
Message received, never quit tea. Not a problem.
Kevin is good at playing the tea addict,
but Dave is better with playing the Girly Drink Drunk!
Lemon Zinger!
2:30 -- I have that exact Japanese print on the wall behind me.
The slow pan to reveal the doctor literally being in the car with him with the megaphone. lol
Consistently hilarious!
Stop the tea.... number 9.... number 9.... John and Yoko Beatles reference. Nice!
the "number 9..." beatles reference is so good
Thanks for uploading this, loved it!
"I don't like tea..."
HOW is he Bri'ish?!
Been waiting for this to come up on my recommended.
Its not even intelligent comedy. It downright genius.
Funniest KITH skit ever!
That doctor is as mad as a hatter.
Oh, how I love this so!
#9...#9...#9...
That's a head's up to the old British show "The Prisoner"...ever Iron Maiden wrote a song about it!!
Another commenter said it’s a reference to The Beatles too.
@@Emiliapocalypse more likey they got it from the Beatles white album...
Dunk me.
I feel personally attacked by this.
Give me some tea, you bastard!
Give me the tea bastard !!
Johnny Depp had to have studied Dave Foley at some point
really? I'm sry I don't get the joke lol
tha Real Mike Zee I just see a lot of Johnny depp’s comedic performances in Dave Foley’s here
I think Depp emulated Dave a bit too much. He wound up marrying a monster just like Dave did.
@@SpaceForce635 who's the monster that Dave married? Tabatha? Cuz she's nice.
@@cautionTosser According to Dave, Tabatha is a monster.
AAH HA, what a classic!!

My god, I am Mr. Tisane. O_o
Lol I dont think I ever saw this one before
Me during "No Nut November "
😅I fn love tea'
I do that #9 all the time and nobody gets it
Why, it's a giant talking tea bag. One doesn't often see that in a comedic routine.
Scary
HELLOOOO!!!!!!!!!
Stop the tea......Number 9.....Number 9.....Number 9...
0 dislikes, eh?
Stop the tea
Looks like Kevin attempting to make a Bruce style artsy sketch.... failed. Still funny.
I still think it was a parody of a bruce-style artsy sketch. how can you not like dave foley's giant tea bag.

Love the British teeth LOL
