Omg I found one of my first LES (leave and earning statements) from tech school from June of 1998. As an E-3 I was getting paid $340 every 1st and 15th of the month haha. I will say that by the time I got E-4 on in less than 2 years and each year after that my pay went up substantially. I was the rare case who never moved off post while enlisted my six years so I never received BAH or BAS. Still in my last year I was making $736 every check as an E-4 2003-04. So I am so looking forward to seeing this video man. Just to see how much pay has gone up in the last 20 years since I got out.
I made E-4 in 1968 on the Kitty Hawk and got $93 a payday. I felt like the richest man on earth because I always ate on the ship and never had a car or tried living off base. Many of the guys in my division did and they were always broke and would come to me for money. Back then you could buy cigarettes for $3 a carton on the ship and when we got to yankee station in the Tonkin Gulf they were $1.10 a carton. Draft beer at the club was 80¢ a pitcher.
Lol. That kind of mindset I'm sure you retired early and comfortably. People around me blow all their money and wonder why they're broke. Thank you for your service.
Great job on the explanation. While we don't get paid as much as we should based on what we do and the sacrifices we make our pay is not to bad especially when you add the medical, dental paid vacation, and housing allowance.
Love the videos. You should do a day in the life as a MA I have Meps this Tuesday n Wednesday and I’m really stuck in between MA, DC, or a Seabee rate.
I got a 32 hour a job here in Philly at 18. Idk why anyone would join the military. My grandfather got blown up at 18 in Vietnam. Lost his eye sight and also has parkisons disease! Took until 2012 for the government to pay for his disability. Why would my generation fight for that?
Things have improved a lot over the last 50 years, including policies and how the VA treats veterans. The VA gave my father a place to stay when we lost our home in 2008. Besides money there's also a higher calling with the military. Defending our country may pay less than making computer chips but those won't matter much if there's no United States

do you think everyone is making 32 an hour and living in philly? everyone's situation is different. I know people who've given up in life and used the military to bounce back. i know people who make great money renting out houses they've gotten through the VA loan. Some people join bc they care about spreading democracy. imagine if the whole world was like North Korea. That's literally a possibility! There's a million reasons why someone would join.

No no, at 5:10 he clarifies that one paycheck was around $1492 at E-4. Multiply this by two (Paid every 1st and 15th), that's where he gets paid around $3,000. You'd be getting around $1k twice a month for $2,017.20 monthly.
Slight confusion here. You're not actually getting $2,768.40 every two weeks like you stated. That is your monthly basic pay, not your pay every two weeks.

I made a mistake saying two weeks, the pay and deductions covers the entire month. The numbers are all correct however.

Out of those choices, Seabee might be your best bet, at least if you're willing to work hard

Depends on your level of consumption, it's possible to save 90%+ of your income if you're single with no home life and bills.
